Have you bothered reading the rest of this thread and the other threads like it, of which there are many? Also, nobody can answer your question without a lot more information. How old are you? Do you have a family? What are your qualifications? How much experience do you have? In what? How much do you expect to save? Do you require a special diet (expensive beef and lamb), or can you adapt to the Polish diet, which is based on pork and chicken?

I am an post graduate (msc IT) and have 7+ years of experience in India ... M stay in Kraków will be 1 year and it may extend for another year ... I wish to save 2000 zloty per month

That would mean at least 7500 PLN a month gross, plus the price of your airfare there and back if you have to pay for it out of your own pocket. Anything less and it will be very hard to put 2000 PLN away a month.

Single bedroom apartment will cost you 2000 PLN all inclusive, rent, fees and utilities. Food, household supplies, clothes, travel and other costs will cost you at least 1000, and probably a bit more.

At 6000 PLN gross, you'll be making only 4000 PLN after taxes, so you will be able to save at most 1000 PLN a month, if that, if you are frugal, careful and lucky.

If saving 2000 PLN a month is a goal, you will need at least 7500 PLN a month gross.

ok ... utilities can you give an idea on what all is included in it. and is there any posibilty for lesser than 2000 PLN... sorry if I am asking too many questions mate

Gas, water, electricity, heat, telephone/internet (no international calls). 2000 is about the minimum you will pay for a one bedroom apartment, rent, fees and utilities, in Kraków. A studio apartment will cost you at least 1600 PLN, and a room in a shared apartment will cost you about 1000 PLN, all inclusive. You won't find places to stay substantially lower than that unless you want to live far outside the city, or in substandard housing, neither of which I would recommend.

and how safe is to stay in shared apartments for 1000 PLN even this include all utilities?

Depends on your choice of roommates. If you find a couple fellow engineers to live with, then pretty safe. However, the fact that you asked this question indicates that you would rather spend the extra money to live alone, and that is what I recommend that you do.

I have an offer from luxoft, krakow of 12500 PLN net monthly.
Will it be sufficient for average 2 bedroom flat and Studying in Internaltional school for my 3 yr old son.
Salary is less than what I am getting here in India but moving to Europe seems good for future.

Search for old topics. There were exact questions from other indians. Look up prices comparison in Numbeo.com . You will find that apartment will cost you 2000 - 2500 PLN per month and biggest expense will ne international school. Could be even 80 000 PLN per year, but rather higher classes, above Kindergarten. On other hand public schools are free and Polish private not very expensive.

Thanks Monitor and Monata,
Schooling seems very expensive.
Are there English private schools, where Polish can be selected as second language.

Hi,

My company is offering me 10.000 PLN gross per month. I have checked a number of threads and found that this is a good amount. I wanted to understand how much I will be getting net salary per month. How much I would be able to save? Right now, I am single and relocating to Poland from India. Is this a good move?

10,000 PLN GROSS per month is a good salary. However, first you ought to consider the COSTS you will incur rather than concentrate on the amount you can save. The costs range from living accommodation, utility bills, traveling costs to and from work, food. No doubt, you will find that in Krakow money just flies out from your wallet.

As to whether it is a 'good move' - it all depends on what you consider 'GOOD'.

Hi,

Sorry if I am being redundant. I am coming to Krakow for a one year assignment as a Test Analyst(IT QA). I have got 5 years of experience. My employer is offering me 8800 PLN Gross per month. I am unmarried, will travel alone and would prefer a single bedroom accomodation. I prefer to cook my own food(Indian Cuisine). Please let me know how much I would net and how much I will be able to save per month. I am a moderate spending guy and would like to explore new things/places unless they are too expensive.

Thanks

Hi folks,

Advising here gets heated up sometimes. Let me offer you another reason to make yourselves angry.

So, how do you see a married person with a baby child to leave off 12 K'ZL gross per month in Krakow, if they are planning to rent a studio/1 bedroom apt, live normal life without extravaganza but with a little travelling and trying to save?

As per my observation and internet search:
1. Rent (studio/1 bdr) ~ 2-2.5 K'ZL per month, including utilities
2. Meal and transportation - another 1.5-2 K'ZL per month (Do you think this is feasible for a small family?)
3. Travel cost around the EU - how much??

basically, we are looking at 4-4.5 K'ZL monthly expenses. While Net earnings on 12 K'ZL gross equals about 8.5 K'ZL. Which means 8.5K - 4.5K = 4K net savings. Is that so simple, or there is some catch?

Btw, how's the transportation in Krakow?

Appreciate your angry comments!

Why should you get any angry comments?

12k zl per (montth especialy if it is net after taxes) is more money than my local mayor earns, I do not have knowledge of Krakow but you would be in the top 90% of earners in Poland, congratulations you should be able to live here very well.

@KN2

You're forgetting about clothing, baby supplies, baby sitter and entertainment. This last is important so that your spouse does not go crazy from isolation. You do have to spend money to keep your spouse from feeling that they are in prison.

A foreigner that does not speak the language cannot live as cheaply as a native Pole can. You have to pay a "foreigner tax" for not being able to communicate effectively, not knowing how the local culture works, and not having an extensive network of family and friends to help you.

And, of course, you have to deduct the cost of relocating to and from Poland, getting your residency permits, and furnishing your apartment from your earnings, as well as any trips to and from you home country. Divide the total costs by 12 and deduct it from your monthly income.

Your costs are going to be more like 6000 if you are frugal. Add travel and that cuts down significantly on your savings. Saving 4000 PLN a month is unrealistic, especially if you're thinking of traveling in Western Europe. To achieve that, you would have to sacrifice a lot.

If saving money or paying off debts is a major priority, then Poland is not the country to come to. The wages are too low for that, and the cost of living for a foreigner are too high. Savings potential is very low.

You would be lucky indeed to have 5000 USD in your savings account at the end of your first year if you live the lifestyle you describe, a tiny fraction of what you would be able to save in the richer countries of Western Europe or the English speaking countries.

If you were single, I would say go for it. The adventure would do you good. With a spouse and kid in tow, though, I say focus on finding work in a richer country with a higher savings potential than Poland.

Hi All,

My company is offering to move to Krakow for couple of years. At the moment the negotiation is around the salary. Can you someone please advise the personal tax rate in Poland and if monthly 20,000PLN (gross) is enough to have a decent lifestyle in Krakow and save some. I'm married and have a 4yr old kid whom I'd be enrolling to english school as I came to know govt schools have polish as medium of communication.

Any inputs or advice are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks
