What salary can be asked at IBM Poland?

11500k PLN

That's Gross, so that's before you pay that hefty slive of tax to those bozos in Warsaw

[****************** PLN net[/quote]
Of course it's possible to live on that for 2 people, of course it is. But would you move half way around the world and settle for that when you can earn, 3, or 4 or 5 times that in Ireland, France, Germany or the UK?

#It's a great wage if your single and living alone, with someone depending on you it's not so great. It's OK, just not anything fantastic becasue it's pretty much what a professional couple in Katowice would be earning anyway.

smurf I know it's gross, would it be net - we are talking then about top 0.01% income rather than top 1% :)
Still a family can live a very good life on 11500 gross in Warsaw, paying mortgage for a nice apartment and never looking at the prices in the grocery store.

Would it make sense for a westerner to move to Poland for that kind of salary - that's another story. Everyone has their own reasons and motifs.

But you are way exaggerating regarding 3 times higher earnings in Germany or France, not to mention 4 or 5 times higher. 11500 gross is more than 2000 EUR net. Very few people in Germany earn even double that. 3 times more which is 6000 EUR net - is a VP level salary in Germany.

6000 EUR net - is a VP level salary in Germany.

Close, but don't forget bonuses and age/experience related salary levels...

Yeah my point is that saying that IT support guy who has been offered >2k EUR net in Warsaw will earn 3 times more further West is a huge exaggeration. He won't until he has a VP level position which is pretty long way from IT support.

And then the cost of living in PL is considerably lower than in Germany not to mention France or UK. So it might sound a bit like a paradox but the thing is that IT guys are way better of in Poland then in Western European countries. Same applies to Ukraine even to higher extent. Ukraine is virtually tax free and it's not uncommon for an experienced developer to pull off 4 grand per month while the average salary and hence cost of living is on the 150-200$ per month level.

Cost of living in Ukraine is not on the $150-200/month level, I can tell you that for nothing.

Ukraine is virtually tax free

Actually.. not quite. The problem in Ukraine is that tax evasion is so widespread that you never know if you'll get busted by the tax authorities. Of course, a bribe can make it go away, but an IT developer will be looking at a large bribe as they'll know that the person in question is earning very well.

What bribes for IT developers are you talking about? Majority of IT industry workers are not employed directly with their companies. They are working on b2b contracts as sole proprietors thus paying less than 5% flat income tax and completely avoiding social security payments. That's shady but absolutely legal at least from the workers' prospective. Now to the cost of living - that's a hard fact that average salary in Ukraine is around that number. Cost of living depends on the lifestyle the person is used too but it's safe to say that someone who is making 20 times more than average salary will be living a very good life.

Sole proprietors in Ukraine pay a lot more than that. For a start, VAT registration is compulsory for anyone earning over roughly $13,000/year. Secondly, Ukrainian law is rather...hmm...ignored when it comes to tax bills. In theory, you might have a small tax liability, but how can you prove it if the tax inspector asks for something to help him process your paperwork?

Now to the cost of living - that's a hard fact that average salary in Ukraine is around that number.

Depends where they live. $2000/month in Kyiv isn't that much money, especially given the hardships of living in such a dysfunctional country.

Please talk about Poland - Katowice and IBM specifically

11500 gross is more than 2000 EUR net.

Yea, I know. It's pretty basic.
The average wage in Katowice is roughly 5000zl per month (salaryexplorer.com/salary-survey.php?loc=2005&loctype=3), so what this guy is going to get is exactly that, average.

He will most certainly earn more than 2000E if he was doing the same job in Ireland, Germany etc.
Man, you can work in Tesco in Ireland and earn 1800E per month, so just imagine who much an IBM pro would earn :)

the cost of living in PL is considerably lower than in Germany not to mention France or UK

Not really, things like food and drink and utilities are cheap. But clothes, petrol are far more expensive here when you think about purchasing power.

Y'know, the more I think about this the more I'd be convinced not to come to Katowice on such a wage, especially since it appears that it will have to support 2 people.

10000 gross

- 10 000 PLN per month or per annum? if per month then it is not much less than what president of Poland earns - I can't believe it's per annum because it would be less than the minimum monthly wage

10 000 per month gross is enough for 2 people to live very well in Poland even in Warsaw

Actually Prez makes 20k + free housing and pretty much free everything... 10k is much more than what majority of people are making but majority here is simply poor... 10k gross is decent but not any luxury.

@burak1517 Thank you for the answer.
I'm a mainframe guy with approximately 10 years experience.
Do you work in Poland? Do you have any information about cost of life in Katowice?

Search on this forum. Find suitable apartments/flats to rent. It all depends on whether you will cook meals at home bought from local produce or go to restaurants every day to eat. Be very wary of signing anything to do with your flat. Take a older Polish person with you when you look at properties. Get to know every detail of costs before you sign.
