Dental Student moving with wife to Poland, how difficult will it be for her (IT degree) to find employment?

Hi all.

I am an Australia/American student planning on moving to study dentistry in Poland (Once accepted) and have yet to pick a specific school but would most likely be in either Poznan or Krakow.

I will not have an issue paying as I can use my student loans from America but my soon to be wife will be moving with me.

She will be a recent graduate with a 4 year IT degree and I am wondering how difficult will it be for her to find employment in Poland? Is it honestly possible or is it slim to none? I am very worried she will have ruined her career if she comes to Poland with me for 5 years for my degree.

Any advice?

There's a good few IT companies around Krakow, (I don't really know Poznan that well) but it would be risky for her to move here w/o having a job already tied up.....and w/o Polish it might be extremely difficult to find a job in that field.

I work for one of them and a huge amount of the Polish workers already speak great English or German and a few other less popular languages, so she'd be at a disadvantage having only one language y'know.....then again, you didn't say if she speaks more than one, so I'm guessing here.

However, if she took a few months of Polish lessons first it would help, or maybe she could teach some English for a year or two. The money won't be great, but at least it would push her to learn the lingo and then get back into IT.

Thanks for the reply. She knows English and Arabic. I would attempt to find her some kind of job before planning my whole venture but if worst comes to worst we might have to go before she can grab one.

Would it be realistic for her to learn Polish while in Poland for say, 2-4 months then try and find full time employment?

It is possible, actually It's one of few areas where non-Polish speaking foreigners can find some employment as a large part of Polish IT sector are outsourcing centres of foreign companies, a lot of clients of Polish companies are foreign too... but If she is a non-EU citizen and just an average IT graduate, not some super nerd, It will probably take some time as some companies will not bother with paper work in case of junior positions... but If she is a native English speaker, probably some help desk jobs should be easier to find and then after some time she may start looking for something better. Kraków and Wrocław are full of IT companies working for foreign clients.

The most important question is weather she's going to get work permit. If not, then it won't be easy to find a company which will apply for visa for IT graduate.

If work permit is not a problem, then Warszawa, Karków and Wrocław have the biggest number of IT jobs. Poznan is close after these cities. So if you want to increase her chances of getting a job in Poland, try studying there.

If work permit is not a problem, then she will definitely find a job.

There are people working online for American companies from Poland, because in this way salary can be double of what is offered in Poland. But it's good for people with experience. But as an last resort she may be freelancer for American companies. Then work permit is not needed.

Thank you again for the replies. They are very helpful. I did not consider how difficult it would be to obtain a work permit for her. I am going to have to really look into this.

after college he wants to work there as a dentist but he does not speak polish

how does he propose to communicate with patients? normal people living in their own country do not want to have to speak a foreign language when they're in pain or sick...

for this to work you'd both need to become very fluent in Polish...

There are doctors (and possibly dentists) in Poland who do not speak Polish yet have patients. The last time I visited a doctor, I was surprised he didn't speak Polish (apparent;ly his assistant translates if necessary). He was fine, originally from Syria, and a good doctor.

There are people who can hold their breath for 10 minutes.... that doesn't make it a practice worth emulating.
