Offer of 12k zloty enough in Warsaw?

Hi, I am from Bangalore, India. I have offer to relocate to Warsaw.

The company will bear the visa and relocation costs initially

Me and my wife have an offer of 12.5k zloty gross and 5k gross respectively. Firstly, what is the net based on this salary? Any idea would help me.

Secondly, how much would a decent 2-bedroom (3 room) apartment cost in good locality in Warsaw? What are rest of the costs attached to renting an apartment?

What are other costs like transport (public transport), grocery, phone, internet etc and how much can I hope to save based on the income and other expenses including the apartment?

Thanks

That is a good salary for a couple. You will be able to afford a nice large apartment, certain luxuries, etc and even save a little money without a problem.

12k around 7000 zl netto .... If you would like rent at good location two rooms a big house (60m2) you will not be able to save up to 2000 zl not more. (If you spend much money then its even not possible)

12.5k gross is over 8k net. 5k gross is 3.5 net.

It's not a fortune but 2 people can have normal life easily saving 4-5k out of it.

Hi thanks.

So, is 30-32% the total deduction including ZUS etc?

Also, could you please help me with a rough idea as to how much does a 3 room apartment cost? If I wish to save more, does an apartment little far from centre available for cheap? Is the public transport connected enough to reach any point within the city?

Thanks

2700 PLN a month and up to 4000 or more for a very nice one in a prime location. All inclusive: rent, administration fees and all utilities except

does an apartment little far from centre available for cheap?

Nor really. There are costs for renting a cheaper apartment that may exceed the money you save. For example, the apartment may have bad windows, which will increase you heating bill. Or it might have a very small and inconvenient kitchen, which means you might eat away from home more. Or it might night be well connected to your place of work, which means that you will have a long commute (particularly nasty in winter). Or it might not have a good selection of shops in the immediate area, which means you might have to spend a lot of time doing your shopping, or spend money on taxis. Or have to get a car. Or you might have bad neighbors. Or any of many possible reasons.

Generally, if an apartment is "cheap". there is usually a good reason for that. If you want to save on housing, then there are two possibilities. The first is downgrading to a two-room (one-bedroom) apartment. The second is to live in a very well connected place far outside of the city. Skierniewice, for example, has excellent and frequent high-speed rail connections to the center of Warsaw, and housing costs are much, much lower. Granted, it is a boring provincial town. But it's a good place if you want to live a quiet life.

Also, when looking for an apartment, it is absolutely vital that you enlist the help of an OLDER, experienced native Polish coworker or colleague. They know what to look for, and they know about transportation connections in the city. They can also negotiate with the landlord. Having the help of an OLDER, experienced native Pole will save you heaps of time and money.

Thanks Dominic.

Assuming 3500 for an apartment including all utilities, can I consider another 2500 zloty for food, grocery, public transport, phone and internet etc?

I want to understand if I can save about 6-6.5k zloty if my and wife's combined post tax income is 12k.

About tax, is 30-32% deduction total? Inclusive of social security cuts like health/ZUS?

As a side note, could you help me with some information on general life in warsaw? Public libraries, sport activities, transport system etc? Even an existing thread should be helpful.

Thanks

That's about right.

Yes. You get about 68% cash in hand. Or about 12,000 PLN cash in hand.

You could potentially save up to 6000 PLN a month, assuming no trips back to India or to expensive places in the West.

There are tons of things to do in Warsaw, especially with the income you will be making. Best way to find out is to ask your Polish coworkers. The public transport system is very good, and monthly tickets are inexpensive.
