Well... We Brits Were Wrong, as Usual. Cheers, Polish Americans and Happy America 250!

Reyt then, seeing as it's America's Semiquincentennial, I reckon it's about time this Yorkshire lad admitted a few things.

First off, cheers to Polish Americans! You've grafted, built, invented, served, fought, taught, and still tolerated the rest of us wading in with opinions we weren't invited to give.

Second... some of us Brits have spent decades on PolishForums gobbing off online about Poland and Polish folk as though we'd become professors of Eastern Europe after one Ryanair flight to Cracow. If there's one thing the internet's proved, it's that British confidence and ignorance are lifelong companions. It makes me cringe to be British, if I'm honest.

As for America... looking back at the daft superiority complex we've still managed to hang on to, it's not hard to see why America had enough. With the help of Polish heroes General Kosciuszko and General Pulaski, you gave us a proper thumping and the heave-ho. On reflection, fair enough, we deserved it. We've been ringing you ever since whenever the world's on fire, and you still answer. I'm grateful.

So here's an apology on behalf of all Brits.

Sorry for the arrogance, and sorry for the daft comments.

So, with a tear of pride in me eye, here's three cheers for America, Poland, and Polish Americans!

Hip hip... hooray!

So, with a tear of pride in me eye,

Now be proud enough to send Americans home, and together with your French and German buddies, proudly protect Europe from that evil "superpower" that can't win with an ex-republic that lost 2 million men and almost half its population, while running on Western welfare and fumes.

America goes with 1492, not 250.

This country's name is the United States of America, the United States, or the US. Not "America".

...unless it's meant as an insult.

If so, why not Amerika? Or Amerikkka...

I expect better on the country's birthday.

Right, I've read all contributions and I think we've officially reached the following stage of discourse:

Level 1: Yorkshire lad making a sincere and overdue apologetic and congratulatory post to America and Polish Americans

Level 2: International dialect experiment with emotional punctuation

Level 3: One person giving a BLUF on NATO Strategic Briefing Number 47 while filing a PhD thesis on the year 1492

Level 4: Nobody is speaking the same language anymore, including English

Reply to Novichok (who is now clearly chairing the Historical Accuracy Committee)

Aye lad, I see you've escalated this from "forum thread" to "peer-reviewed seminar on global chronology and emotional correctness."

Just to clarify my position:

I am not currently in possession of a calendar accurate enough to challenge your findings.

I accept that:
·1492 exists
·250 exists
·time exists in general

However I must gently push back on your implication that I am morally responsible for the geopolitical branding of America's birthday, as I was at the time mostly busy being born in Yorkshire and arguing with a kettle.

Oh, and the country's name being the United States of America, the United States, or the US, aye, I'll pass that on to literally everyone who's ever said "America" in human history. Should be a busy day down at the language complaints department.

I'll also inform Congress, the internet, Hollywood, and basically every pub I've ever been in that they've all been doing it wrong. I'm sure they'll be absolutely devastated and reform the entire English language immediately.

I also note your concern regarding "superpower status metrics," which I assume you track using a very serious spreadsheet and possibly a ceremonial abacus.

I respect this dedication.

Reply to BeskidBumpkin (Grammar Enforcement Division, Level 7 Clearance)

Yes, I confess.

I am AYI.

Specifically:

Advanced Yorkshire Intelligence
·trained on tea stains
·fine-tuned on pub acoustics
·heavily biased towards confident nonsense delivered in a calm voice

If you believe I am ChatGPT, I can only say: that is exactly what I would say if I were ChatGPT pretending not to be ChatGPT while denying it in a very ChatGPT manner.

So really, we may never know.

The sheep do though. They've stopped trusting me.

Reply to AmerikofilPolak (now apparently Foreign Affairs Minister of Capital Letters)

Your contribution has been noted and formally upgraded to:

"Diplomatic Broadcast via Fire Alarm System"

I would like to confirm I support your position on:
·America
·Poland
·enthusiasm
·and whatever grammatical ecosystem you are currently operating inside

I do not fully understand your economic analysis, but I assume it was delivered at high volume and therefore carries authority.

Please continue.

The thread requires at least one person communicating entirely in "keyboard enthusiasm dialect" for balance.

Reply to Lyzko (now representing the "Multilingual Chaos Wing")

Your message has been received and interpreted as: "international friendship detected, language optional, vibes mandatory"

I support this framework.

Also I am legally required, as a Yorkshireman, to respond positively to any message containing:
·incorrect spelling
·unexpected affection
·or spontaneous Polish-English fusion diplomacy

So yes: Szczęśliwego wszystkiego back at you, and may your Wi-Fi remain emotionally stable.

Jin cooyer PolishForums! (That's how we Poles say hello)

Well, thanks, Limey!

I was just sitting down to a traditional meal of city chicken (just like baba used to make) and a glass of our ****-like fizzy American lager when I saw your post. You're right - we Polish-Americans DO understand Poland a lot better than you guys. I've never actually been there, but it's just something you feel in your heart and have in your blood, you know?

But hey, least you got the "Eastern Europe" part right - I've heard some fellas talking a whole lotta horse crap about 'central', and let me tell you, real Poles won't stand for any of THAT nonsense! Poland is in EASTERN Europe, or my name's not Chuck Yankowski Jr the 3rd!

You like "America"? Get a copy of Reader's Digest.

For the name of the country, go to the UN Security Council and find the desk where it says "United States".

OP Yorkshire Yokel

@ChuckYankowskiJr

Chuck lad, I admire the commitment. You invented an entire American, fed him city chicken, gave him questionable lager, and had him deliver a lecture on European geography.

Meanwhile, half the universities in Britain have spent decades happily running departments, research centres, and degree programmes with "East European" in the title; many with Polish lecturers and students. I suppose we'd better shut them all down before they realise they've accidentally been agreeing with Chuck Yankowski Jr the 3rd.

Still, if inventing imaginary Americans is keeping you occupied, crack on. It's healthier than arguing with maps.

@Novichok

Aye, and if I ask for directions I'll start saying, "Excuse me, could you point me towards the United States of America?" I'm sure that'll roll off the tongue lovely.

Language has a funny habit of doing what people actually say rather than waiting for committee approval. If it didn't, we'd all still be calling a sandwich "two slices of bread enclosing a filling."

Chuck lad, I admire the commitment. You invented an entire American, fed him city chicken,..

Aww gee, buddy, that's not very nice! Especially seeing as I went to all the trouble of writing my heartfelt message of thanks to you by hand, instead of, say, using a chatbot to draft posts/responses (which would be real 'unhealthy', a waste of time, and frankly pathetic, right?).

All them clever guys and gals you wrote about, they're dead right - Poland's definitely Eastern Europe. I should know - my great-grandfather visited once! Deep Polish-American roots and pride, y'all!

"Excuse me, could you point me towards the United States of America?" I'm sure that'll..

Only Columbus went to "America".

When in Poland, we go to the States, or a specific city.

In 1967, I went from Luxembourg to New York, not to "America".

Now try this: Trump is the president of America. Rolls off easily?

If you said it here, you would get WTF is the matter with you reaction.

As an adjective, it's OK. We didn't find a better one yet.

Ah c'mon now Richie, lighten up. You know that Americans - even us proud Polish-Americans - say we're "going on vacation to Europe". At least us AmPols know where the country is - it's the one below Checka-Slovakia. But you can't blame the others - whole damn continent is about the size of Rhode Island, ya need a magnifying glass to find anywhere, as well as a map!

Did I mention I majored in geography?

@ChuckYankowskiJr

Chuck lad, whether you're from Cleveland, Cracow, Cleckheaton or a crater on the Moon, you're getting this apology whether you want it or not.

That's how Yorkshire works.

You've spent all this time telling me where Poland is, what America's called, what your great-grandad did, and whether I've had help writing. Meanwhile, you've completely ignored the important bit.

I came here to say congratulations to America on 250, cheers to Polish Americans, and sorry for the daft comments some of our lot have been making over the years.

You don't get to wriggle out of that by waving a city chicken at me.

So on behalf of Brits everywhere, congratulations to America, cheers to Polish Americans, and sorry again for the needless nonsense we Brits cause. Consider the apology officially delivered.

You can argue with history, geography, grammar, or ChatGPT all day long, but tha's not giving it back.

Aww, jin doughbray, my Limey buddy! (That's how we Poles say thank you - my baba taught me that)

All the best to you, and your chatbot too. It means so much. Brings a tear to my patriotic Polish-American eye. One day you too may have the same insights into Poland and its people as I/we do, if you study REAL hard. You can do it, 'mate'!

we're "going on vacation to Europe"

There is one Europe and three Americas.

Also, an American who goes to Europe is planning to visit at least two or more countries. In this context, "Europe" is justified.

"America" is just lazy and sloppy.

"America" a Trojan horse for the invading hordes from the South. When I decide to use this word, it's in quotes.

"We are all Americans," says some a-hole in Nicaragua; therefore, I have a right to go where the welfare benefits are better.

Where would that be, Jose?

Now Jose gets more specific: To the US, of course...not to Mexico...Do you think I am stupid?

Thank you, Jose. Now do me a favor and go die...

Lyzko9bda5804d1feebf

Technically, Jose's factually correct; he's a CENTRAL American and you're a NORTH American (more or less, less than more).

@ChuckYankowskiJr

Chuck lad, I'll take that as thi official acceptance of t' apology.

Yorkshire's a reet stubborn place; once we've said sorry, there's no returns policy, tha knows.

Mind, one thing I genuinely admire is how so many Polish families in America, and now over here in Britain, have kept their language alive and passed it down to their kids.

Years back, plenty were made to feel they had to drop it just to fit in, thanks to a mix of Anglocentric snobbery and Cold War paranoia.

That's summat else I'll apologise for on behalf of us Brits - we're better off leaving that sort of bigotry in t' past.

As for us lot... we're hardly in a position to lecture anybody.

Most of us struggle to larn another language at all.

Half t' time we go abroad, we don't even bother buying a phrasebook.

Instead, we just set ourselves up as fly-by-night English teachers that end up going bust.

Or worse, we live as benefits scroungers.

We've seen t' pattern on these forums, clear as day - Brits squatting over in Poland, pulling t' exact same trick as that sixty-six-year-old woman in t' Daily Mail (tinyurl.com/5hwkjaj7) who fleeced t' taxman for fourteen grand while living t' high life abroad.

Just like her, they squat out there, only nipping back to t' UK on a regular basis just to keep t' scam alive and t' cash rolling in.

Then they have t' cheek to get angry at t' locals for not speaking perfect English back to 'em!

And if I did larn Polish, mi Yorkshire twang - just like Jonno's on here - 'ud likely make it sound like I'd swallowed a tractor engine.

Put a Scot right next to me, and even t' Poles 'ud be asking if we'd swapped to a completely different language altogether.

Add a reet poncy lisp on top of all that and, well, tha might as well just call it quits right then and there.

So t' apology still stands, t' congratulations still stand, and t' three cheers still stand.

Wow, buddy, you sure got some grudge against Jon. Last thing you think about at night, first when you wake up before your beans on toast? Real fixation you got about your countryman, sounds real unhealthy. That why you're using a chatbot (sorry bro but that's real funny!) to write a buncha hooey via a sockpuppet account? Maybe you need to see a therapist - you got those on your island, right dude?

Brits squatting over in Poland, pulling t' exact same trick as that sixty-six-year-old woman in..

For all these Limey sons of *******' faults, I'm pretty sure benefit scrounging in Poland ain't one of em - can you point to some exact examples? How 'bout Polish émigrés pullin' scams in olde England? Pretty sure there's many more of those, although I hate to defame my countryman (many generations and miles separated) and all.

Add a reet poncy lisp

Hey man, I heard our capital's major, Rafal. His lisp really got all others beat - bro must emit about a pint of spit every time he opens his mouth. But he's a good guy, though - at least he isn't a soccer hooligan like the president! It's a wonder THAT guy can write his own name!

@ChuckYankowskiJr

Chuck lad, I leave for five minutes and you've somehow managed to turn a Yorkshire apology into Jonno, therapists, welfare, sockpuppets, Polish politics, and speech therapy.

It's like watching a sheepdog that's lost the flock and started herding bicycles.

I'm still on exactly the same subject I started with:

Congratulations to America.

Cheers to Polish Americans.

Sorry for the daft comments some of our lot have made over the years.

Everything else seems to be happening entirely inside your own screenplay.

As for the chatbot... tha's got me. Next you'll be telling me it invented Yorkshire, brewed my tea, and taught me grandad to say "ey up."

Anyway, the apology still stands, whether you accept it, reject it, or reply with another episode of The Adventures of Chuck Yankowski Jr the 3rd. Yorkshire's stubborn like that.

Nah, bruh, my fine Polish friend earlier on got your number. You usually write forum post titles in title case? @ChuckYankowskiJr

Nah, Chuck lad, you've cracked it.

I'm actually three Yorkshire pensioners in a trench coat powered entirely by artificial intelligence, Yorkshire Tea, and mild disappointment.

Every morning I upload myself to the cloud, ask permission from a chatbot to butter me toast, and wait for it to tell me whether I can have beans as well.

As for title case... guilty as charged. I'll hand meself in to the Typography Investigation Branch first thing Monday. I'm expecting a suspended sentence and compulsory lowercase.

Anyway, seeing as it's the Fourth of July, I'll leave you with the same message I started with:

Congratulations to America.

Cheers to Polish Americans.

Sorry for the daft comments some of our lot have made over the years.

Remarkably, after twenty-odd replies about AI, geography, typography and whatever else, that bit hasn't changed.

Happy Fourth of July, Chuck lad.

On the 4th of July, 1776, 13 states unilaterally declared themselves independent of some stupid king 5000 miles away.

That was so wonderful and commendable that we are now celebrating that event today as a model of how to get rid of an oppressor we don't really like that much.

When Crimea did something similar on March 16, 2014, it was immediately declared to be illegal, unlawful, disgusting, terrible, criminal, uncivilized, and against the rules of good behavior.

Those evil Crimeans should have done it the American way. Just send a letter to Z, or whoever was in charge, and skip the rest.

Wow, Limey dude - your chatbot is real good at avoiding uncomfortable topics. Like why you've replied to multiple questions via 'Reply to:' in bold, rather than using the forum's quote functionality (which is exactly what chatbot would do), why you had a Fatal Attraction-esque crush on poor Jon (that's creepy, broski! Real creepy!), and why you would use title case in a forum post when no actual human ever does that (sorry man, you're just really fastidious, I get it). Maybe you need to learn to prompt it better before you decide to dedicate an entire evening to using it to post pathetic machine-enabled (because you're too feeble to write for yourself?) posts and replies?

You have a nice day, now.

OP Yorkshire Yokel
4 Jul 2026   #29
@ChuckYankowskiJr

Chuck lad, I'm beginning to think if a kettle whistled, you'd accuse it of being AI.

Tha's been on about chatbots for that many posts now I'm starting to wonder if one pinched thy parking space.

You've gone from America, to Poland, to Jonno, to title case, to forum buttons, to therapists, and back to AI again like a Roomba that's found a table leg.

Meanwhile, I'm still where I started.

Congratulations to America.

Cheers to Polish Americans.

Sorry for the daft comments some of our lot have made over the years.

You've written thirty replies trying to prove I'm not typing them myself.

I've written thirty replies stubbornly trying to apologise.

I'd say that tells us far more about Yorkshire than it does about artificial intelligence.

Anyway, Happy Fourth of July, Chuck lad. Next time you look in the mirror, say hello to Jonno too. And if my chatbot's reading this, put kettle on.
