The efforts to retain the colonial gains of the Czarist regime are analogous with the..
Which doesn't make their behaviour acceptable, especially since everyone except the Yanks, the Chinese and to a point the French have stopped this.
slightly differ3nt as (mostly) they invaded the Soviet
Most didn't. Hungary doesn't count and Hiwis could come from anywhere.
I don't remember a popular armed rising in GDR.
True indeed and most of the GDR residents did seem to support it strongly. Part of that is the human instinct to cleave to the mundane during crises however really they went from one evil and oppressive regime to another less evil and oppressive regime with the same authoritarianism. Widespread support and thousands grassing each other up daily.
A miracle they managed a revolution in 1919 albeit a half-assed one.
keeping your head down to not get into difficulties is not "supporting it strongly".
Joining the Stasi (hard fo outsiders to process how many Germans were part of that apparatus) and informing on people around them, in full knowledge that they will suffer isn't really "keeping your head down".
I was a bit shocked to find out that when several opposition groups were disbanded after 1990 that some of those groups had more undercover Stasi members spying on each other than real activists.
.....and yet....as the GDR rulers needed these people to fight for their party and regime, to rescue the GDR, they didn't....they watched gleefully the wall taken down, many many Stasi members between them!
Jon, you luckily have no idea how such dictatorships work, and hopefully never will learn it....and even you can't be totally sure how you yourself would fare forced to live under such circumstances...if you would not just try to keep your head down, not only for yourself but also for your family, so...don't judget these people who have to!
True indeed and most of the GDR residents did seem to support it strongly.
They supported it so strongly that the SED never won a single election in the first few years of the Soviet occupation when elections were somewhat free (bit not fair).
They supported it so strongly that the SED needed Soviet tanks to quell the uprising against the regime in 1953.
That they joined the Stasi by the thousand, informed on neighbours and colleagues on an industrial scale and shot hundreds of their countrymen who tried to escape.
America were able to champion the cause of freeing people from colonial rule
They were doping that to gain an upper hand in a economical exploitation of those former colonies. Not for charity. The US is an exmaple of civil right and a society build in Christian rules. That their value, also the fact they are the most powerful country of our civilization. However all those strong points had been diluted lately with progressivism and LGBT nonsense, and Zionism. ---
Poles find a almost natural tendency to be friendly towards American ideals
As I said aside from some people seeing the US as the land of opportunity like many others, many Poles sees in the US refection of their glorious past and their own Republic. Objective it was build on a very similar idea that steamed from the same source and after all the Founding Fathers of the US were well aware of the Polish golden freedom. ---
Colonialism as you know is about exploiting natural resources and controlling the financial system,
Countries evolve to be powers and then into empires, colonialism is nowadays done under the banner of international corporations. Also it is a natural process, every power on the planted would like to involve with colonialism but they have no enough power or ability. Criticizing colonialism as a whole is useless, I would say that colonialism by Christian nations should have some moral retrains and there were you should try to make a real difference, rather than paddling against the current. ---
Cuba i
The best way for Cuba would be becoming another US state, If I were a Cuban i would see it that way. Seems they are brainwashed by the decades of communism. ---
@not_polish Are you referring to the large immigration in the 1900s... As a Polish American, whose family came here during that time... who sacrificed everything, worked constantly, were discriminated against, had to relearn everything, and unlike in immigration today... were not given any luxuries or government help. I'm not thankful to America. I'm thankful to my grandparents who lived through hell to give me the life I have today. You are ignorant and stupid. The USA benefited massively economically from all the immigrants that they took in in the 1900s. (again because unlike today they didn't get any government assistance.)
While this is surely to a large extent so, please don't forget that, for example among the Sicilian immigrants above all, huge families helped one another out financially with whatever they had for the Old Country....OR ELSE!!
No matter how up against it, Italians didn't let each other starve, gov.t handouts or not. The bad times were never so bad, that Mama and Papa couldn't cobble together a Christmas meal etc. Whaddya'll think the Cosa Nostra was about? Sitting together on Sundays after church listening to Verdi and Puccini operas?? Wake up an smell the Lavazza!
Home / USA, Canada / Poland has no real historical grievance against USA
