Expat Poles swearing allegiance to the US - how did you feel?

It is so obvious that they are blind to what America really stands for today.

Stands for... to whom?

US stands for sifferent things to different people. I mean, you go on about wars but what does that say about Poland? Poland either went to war because they wanted to be the oppressors and invaders for the first time in 80 years or because they were playig little puppies to big US in order to get a few bones from the table (and UK went into the war because Tony Blair so wanted to be the new Margaret Thatcher and kid on he headed a world power... and all the other successful Tory leaders had wars, so why shouldn't he?).

That's not what Poland stands for to me (as a foreigner), but using your outlook, it could.

because anytime people feel unhappy, they'll still blame someone else for their failure.

Like blaming their problems onto immigrants instead of facing the fact that they are being screwed by their own

I know what you're trying to say. Yes some of our politicians made mistakes but our politics will change soon and our next government will make much better decisions and slowly but surely, we'll manage our problems this way or another. You can't deny that millions of immigrants (especially those illegal ones), didn't have any impact on our present problems. Of course, I mean mainly Mexicans as all the other ones don't come even close to the amount of Mexicans in our country. If that was going on in Poland, I bet you guys would be feeling the same way.

The US has that pull on people. They make it a glorious Godsend to be an American and make everything else appear lame by comparison. It's all in the sell! We may dislike what our own countries do in some respects but it should never change our closeness to our roots.

It has it's roots in the past. There was a time you could come to America from Europe and get free land. That was absolutely unheard of in Europe at the time!

I wish you that to be true ! Personally I doubt it!

Their are a symptom and a tool, not the reason for your problems.

The parasites are the scummy lower class, not the rich.

Thanks. I'm optimistic because if we won't fix it then tell me who will (and we all have problems at this time)? Huge country, over 300lmn people, I see a lot of potential here.

Well, it is a problem, believe me. We have over 30mln Mexicans here.

But wasn't that why you changed your government in the first place? (I believe that's why UK changed theirs... or maybe UK didn't feel its pols had made enough mistakes)

Not really because whoever I know, hasn't voted for our present government.

That's just class warfare that peeps have had drummed into their heads by the Left.
Truth is, the "rich" already pay more than their fair share of taxes to keep things running. The top 5% pay like 85% of the taxes and consume almost nothing by way of services and programs. While scummy losers and minorities contribute nothing and pay zero taxes while sucking the system to death.

Something to keep in mind through all the manufactured noise: Something like the bottom 40% of workers here pay no federal income tax at all. So they shouldn't even be permitted to complain about how much others do or do not have to pay. The greedy ingrates.

How rich ? should be the question to have a proper discussion here ! As for left or right bottommost or heavenly propaganda - take my word on this that it has nothing to do with my views !

people like havok and trewer are stupid. It is so obvious that they are blind to what America really stands for today. If not then in in that case too, they deserve zero respect for being slaves and even eager servants to the corporate and corrupt government of america. This kind of attitude and behaviour demonstrates this. Are they at all Polish, as I know no Pole thinks this way.

I'm back, well this is where I left off before I left... hmm, Very interesting opinion.

Let me give you some highlights for stupid Havok's 2010...

I went on vacation to Spain for two weeks, my wife and I learned how to sail. Let me tell you, sailing in a tropical weather in November and December would make anyone smile.

I went to NYC see a Broadway show "Shylock" with Al Pacino.

I vacationed in San Diego for a week... that was nice than I spent two weeks in Philadelphia, mostly party time. I helped financially my Plastic Pollock/Gerry family...

I bought a new car, house, furniture last year.

Well I’ll be damned, call me stupid and blind to what America stands for today...

Bracie Polaku how was your 2010? Dopeandomine feel free to chip in and see if i care.

The best part is that no one can take my experiences away from me.

land of the free and home of the brave. That is complete bullshit.

I think you’re one of those welfare bloodsucking losers who are too lazy to get a job and whine and blame everything but themselves for their misery. Get to work you trash.

It's just a saying not some bloody Satanic ritual..

It's not just a saying if you respect yourself and what you swear. And the problem with swearing allegiance every day is that you forget that you give your word of honor and it becomes just a sentence like some poem that you have to say.

I'm not embarrassed of swearing allegiance to the US and I have no regrets.

Give me one reason why I should feel different about it.

You shouldn't but what if you're also emotionally connected with different country?I'm not saying that you like it better but just the same? You have to repudiate the other country or lie.

It’s a really silly question anyways.

No,it's not

Just because you’re miserable in your own country it doesn’t mean that I have to be miserable living in mine.

Noone said that you should feel miserable.I'm happy in Poland but it's interesting for me to hear from the immigrants in the US how they felt in that precise moment.

Come on, where do you draw the line at patriotism and brainwashing?

When you force ppl to do what they don't want to do or when you "love" your country so much that you hate other nations.

I can't say that I'm emotionally connected with Poland in a positive way. Draw your own conclusions.

Honestly, in that moment, i felt like an opportunity for a new life was given to me and that i'd never have to go back to Poland. You've asked, here is my honest answer.

as a side note, decades later I still don't regret it. I'm young in my early 30's so who knows. so far so good.

What you've got going for you in Poland if i may ask?

You don't want to live in Poland or have anything to do with this country and that's ok but there are ppl that are emotionally connected with 2 countries and that's when the problem begins.

What you've got going for you in Poland if i may ask?

This is very reasonable question and maybe someone can answer that but I cannot. For me it's more about emotions than reason.I like to travel but every time I come back to Poland I feel that that's my place on Earth.I know that in some countries my life would be easier but that is not important for me.

What you are doing on Polish Forum? Since you are not connected to Poland and all that bad memory's, you could be killing time on some other forum.

I know quite a few people abroad with a limited understanding of anything outside of Poland and who are hopelessly stuck in that mindset, so I guess I’m practicing my debating skills for when I need to socialize with them again. Also I’m solidifying my understanding of the personal correlation with the “old country”.

What about you hoss?

I'll never fully understand this but it's something that keeps millions of poles from fleeing the country every year. Similarly in America, it's what keeps lots of people in the same town or the same state. They're unhappy, hate the weather, cost of living, whatever, yet they continue to sit in the damn place year after year.

I guess it's just that "home is where the heart is" mentality but for me, I'll never understand putting yourself through a subpar life just so you can visit mommy and daddy more often. Live for yourself first because nobody else will, that's what I always say.

Who said that I'm unhappy? That's not the case with me.I'm perfectly happy. That's why I stay in Poland-because I'm happier here that in other places. And when you say that ppl hate sth in their countries...every place on Earth has some downsides and the only choice we have is the type of disadvantages.

I guess it's just that "home is where the heart is" mentality

That's exactly what it is.

I'll never understand putting yourself through a subpar life just so you can visit mommy and daddy more often. Live for yourself first because nobody else will, that's what I always say.

And what if that's exactly what you want to do?You are living your life if you're doing things that make you happy.Even if the thing that makes you happy is visiting your family.

Notice that the ones that have a problem with swearing allegiance to another country are only those that are in no way near facing that option at all.

It's a matter of taste:

To wcale nie wymagało wielkiego charakteru
nasza odmowa niezgoda i upór
mieliśmy odrobinę koniecznej odwagi
lecz w gruncie rzeczy była to sprawa smaku
Tak smaku ...

Americans leaders are nothing more than organized crime communists ripe with arrogance and with access to too much money and power.

Wow, I've flown in and out of numerous military bases since joining the military. Your rants are more harmful to us when overseas than the likes of mcnbc, Huffington post and other communist outlets. You are a perfect match for Polish Forums, paranoia combined with a zeal for conspiracy is the perpetuum mobile of this forum. Throw in a little of an anti-Jewish sentiment, some Jewish world-control rhetoric and they'll make you a president of this forum.

In closing, America is NOT holding up a banner of freedom around the globe, instead they are trying to take over every country they can in their quest for a "new world order" and one currency

You got a problem with our dollar? Another person jealous that America rules this world, behave yourself be a good subject.

It's a nice poem :)

From the man who symbolised having the opportunity to leave Poland, and refusing, on principle, to take it.
