It does sound very encouraging to send people to be killed then.

Polish citizens doing this, fight in return to get US citizenship. That is a business transaction and that makes them mercenaries.
The same goes for the 10.000 Poles in the French Foreign Legion. They also have a business contract with the French government.

no, it doesn't. there is nothing in therms of the benefits that the US military can give the families that can equalize the pain and anguish. That's why it's called a sacrifice, what all those men and women are doing, for an idea of a country that very few people outside the US would understand. And that's why we owe them respect, instead of calling them fools or mercenaries and making glib jokes.

The benefits are just a token. Obviously, a lot of people would rather forget about the sacrifice, and translate everything in terms of money and what they can get "out of the system."

Hmm, I didn't know they could become citizens by serving in the army. I knew they talked about that in the congress but didn't know it was made law. Is this entirely accurate or just conjecture?

You'd be surprised how far from the truth you are.
In fact the USA is one of few countries that that faced so few attacks on their soil. Two, to be exact. One almost 200 years ago, and another one (a tiny attack) about 10 years ago. So I'd say it is Americans who have little understanding of an idea of a country.

The US is the only country in the history of mankind that was established to be an empire. Being an empire entails continuous expansion and disregard for other nations. The US certainly has lived up to that ideal and sadly, continues doing so.

Have you actually ever seen one?It is green.As for the fast track to citizenship thru US army I don't think that would be a motivation for any green card (I like Permanent Resident Card better) holder to join.As Fuzz already said once permanent resident it is only a matter of time and willingness to become US citizen unless you do something really stupid.
