Can you imagine Brits demanding this kind of crap in Spain or any other Country we work in? Nope...It just wouldnt even enter in to our heads...Maybe its our "get on with it" attitude that differs!

Wait untill Betty Saxe-Coburg Gotha kicks the bucket.

when my mother passed away from cancer in Poland I did not get a day off at work. Was I angry?, no. I was still in shock to even think about it.
What is the purpose of the protest anyways. Did they break the law. Sure it is a case of human compassion gone wrong. Nothing less, nothing more.

Sweet Jaysus thats unfair. Sorry to hear about that.

Was it imperative that you were in the workplace? Would the company have lost a lot of cash if they allowed you compassionate leave?

Here you are entitled to 3-5 paid days leave if an immediate relative passes away. I thought Canada would be similar or better.

that was horrible but I am over it now. We all have stories of good employers and bad ones. This particular one was a law breaker on many levels. Small companies get away with many things even in Canada;)

I wouldn't think so, but I left for Poland 2 times that year without pay (was not in the contract), so I assumed that my boss was understanding enough in my situation.

NO. The owner was very stingy.

Well, I was not offered that, even if it was statutory. I was too shocked to demand it considering the state I was in at that time.

I thought Canada would be similar or better.

It is in most work places. Regardless, I quit after 3 months and went back to uni full time, got myself a degree and plus, so good things come out of the bad ones in the end:). I don't think I would do it of my boss was a good one.

Going back on topic, we don't really know what happened and I would like to find out. Those stories usually have 2 versions.

A good employer will always get paid back dividends if he/she treats their empoloyees well. Short term pain, for long term gain.

You should have stood your ground and told him that family comes first. Your ma just died and you need to be there and that you would see him in ten days.

Greedy bastid.

Back to the OP. I would wait a week or so before I decided on any industrial action. Factory workers are very exposable. Wait until you cool down a bit before you do anything rash.

I demanded two minutes to slack off when the Queen Mother died. My Polish boss told me to get fcuked. Same when Princess Diana died. Where do I file my whine about Poles and hate speech?

We will have a national day of mourning here in the UK..I dont expect those ex pats living in Aus or Spain will give a shite - they left the UK for a reason...and it wasnt to get all patriotic when something happens in the UK!

and thats why we are buying Bazilian Embraers and not Queen's Bombardiers
say to **** off to two faced people

Can you say that in English please?

Factory workers are very exposable

They're probably agency - so plenty more where they came from, maybe employ English staff next time.

Yep I can just imagine you asking for 2 minutes to commemorate old wooden teeth :D

He is trying to say that Poles buy Brazilian planes instead of British ones because British people are two-faced. Unfortunately he's too stupid to realise that Bombadier is actually a Canadian company and so all he's done is remind us all he's a twat.

well... work is not a place to show a tribute to victims of *any* accident/attack. why the hell employer should allow that during work? they can "pay tribute" during their braketime.

going back on topic:

I think that there is much more to the story ( we actually don't know the story) and the latter incident is probably just a result of the previous conflict between those workers and the employer.

Race hate against Poland by English factory?

A British cream cake company has been accused of a race-hate crime after it refused to halt its production line to mark the death of Poland's president.

Management at Laurens Patisserie, which supplies eclairs for Tesco and Sainsbury's, was forced to back down after Polish workers at the plant, who make up 70 per cent of the 1,600-strong workforce, tried to stage an impromptu shutdown.

Poles moaning about nothing again?

Yep. Pity for them that there are now millions of Romanians who want to take their jobs and will do a better job for less money and without the whining. I just hope the cretins don't come back to Poland.
