Renting a car in Bydgoszcz?

hey guys, has anyone rented a car in Bydgoszcz? My fiance is from there and we're going there in August for two and a half weeks. In the past we've used the public transport and relied on her father for getting around, but it would be nice to be more independent this time. And also, I was thinking that maybe it would work out cheaper if I just bought a second hand car over there to use for when we're in Bydgoszcz? What's car insurance like in Poland? And any websites I could check???

Any advice is much appreciated.

P.s. I'm just new to PF but I love it already, I spent last night reading many an interesting post!

This. You can by a good car (meaning in driving condition) for 3000-5000 PLN and that way you can save a lot of money. Buy minimum insurance only and you're set for the long term in Poland ;)

carhire3000.com shows 17 days as costing £313. easycarhireis usually cheaper but it's saying there's no available cars in mid-August.

That's a rubbish idea. For a start you can't buy unless you have an address here. For another thing the paperwork would take most of a day. You'd also be quite likely to get ripped off and you'd have the hassle of selling the thing too (needing to sell in a hurry leads to needing to take rubbish offers).

You might want to think about buying a rubbish car in the UK and then driving it out here (with AA 5-star Europe cover) and giving it away when you go home; that'll work out as the cheapest way.
