The pre-war Polish Post office, famous for its defence on 1 Sept 1939 and execution of Polish workers by Nazi Germans.

I didn't know anything about this Pawian. It's really sad.
Think i will be just as busy with my camera as you were when you went.

Haven't the faintest idea how to upload them on here!
Besides, my pics won't have lovely commentary to go with them, like yours:(:(

pawian: The pre-war Polish Post office, famous for its defence on 1 Sept 1939 and execution of Polish workers by Nazi Germans.

No, pam. It isn`t sad today. It was sad when those people gave their life, either during combat or later in hospitals and executions, including the 10 year old daughter of the post office caretaker. It was sad because those people had families who mourned them and also, there were many witnesses of their suffering and pain.

Today, they are all gone. The sad moments turned into glorious history of Poland - thanks to me and other history lovers like me, those heroic people who died for Polish Gdańsk will be immortalised on various pages till the end of this world.

E.g.,

Konrad Guderski (19 February 1900 - 1 September 1939) was a Polish engineer and military officer. He was the organizer and commander of the defense of the Polish Post Office in Danzig in the first hours of the German invasion of Poland, 1939. He was killed during the Defense of the Polish Post Office in Danzig, during the World War II invasion of Poland by Germany

Alfons Flisykowski (22 September 1902, Gorrenschin, Kreis Karthaus, West Prussia, Germany - October 5, 1939, Danzig-Saspe) was a Polish worker of the Polish Post Office in the Free City of Danzig in the years 1923-1939 and a second commander (after Konrad Guderski) of the defence of the Post Office from the invading Nazi German forces when World War II started on September 1, 1939.
Flisykowski was captured by the Germans on 2 September 1939 and handed over to the Gestapo.

More about them in the Museum of the Gdańsk Post Office.

Trying to rewrite history again, Pawian? The Free City of Danzig was NOT part of Poland at that time.

As ardent Polish patriots, we didn`t forget about visiting such places as:

Westerplatte, Poland

Out of date plaques - the last defender of Westerplatte died this year.
Souvenirs

Pam, as for outdoors meals when you are in the Old Town, I can recommend you a milk bar in Szeroka Street. It is called Turystyczny (Tourist) Bar, offers excellent Polish dishes, great value for money. We frequented it 3 times and never regreted.

Famous chilled soup - chłodnik litewski.

I devoured potato pancakes ala Hungarian (with rich gravy and large chunks of soft pork) while my kids and wife ordered regular pancakes with cottage cheese and sugar.

or they tried out scrambled eggs (???) and blueberry pierogis.

Thanks Pawian, food looks nice, especially potato pancakes.
Will have to give Pierogi with fruit a try, have only tried them with Cheese and potato, meat, and mushrooms.
Am especially looking forward to the food :):)

Oops long time no see.

Two options: a few more photos of Gdańsk or presentation of another trip during summer 2012?

The choice is yours.

Two options

Why can't we have both?:):)

Shyt, I didn`t think about it! :(:(:(:(

Pam, when in Gdańsk, did you visit the Red Army Cemetery? It is important history for Gdańsk. Soviet soldiers liberated the heavily damaged city (air raids, siege) but then went on a burning and looting spree which lasted for 3 days and resulted in nearly perfect destruction of Gdańsk.

But those who died liberating Gdańsk should get our respect.

Unfortunately not Pawian, and a shame i missed it from your photos. I saw as much as i could from my list, but simply ran out of time! I could've done with another few days there tbh:(

Ooops, we are going on holiday soon and I haven`t finished with last year`s vacation yet. Shyt! Guys, why don`t you remind me???

Let`s finish Gdańsk today at least.

Two places in the Old Town which are a must to see amazingly rich interiors.

Artur`s Court: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artus_Court

Performers in Gdańsk streets

Beggars of Gdańsk

Shame on this guy who exploits dogs. Sadist! I don`t like dogs as I prefer cats but using live animals for begging is disgusting.

Yummy! Food halls with my fav stuff - fruit and veg and raw meat!

After raw meat, some pudding.

commentary: lacking

It is not true. Yes, the commentary is scarcer now than when I began but you can`t say it is non-existent. Come on.

Besides, it is not only my fault - also people comment less than before, hence you get an impression that you see only pictures.

Sorry, that is pure life. :):):)

PS. OK, I will try to remember about your delicate remark. :):)

Tomorrow we are going to the mountains.........

........but not Bieszczady Mountains which we visited last year.

For the starters, a few photos with a commentary for Wrocław!

Commentary:

The road from Krakow to Bieszczady Mountains can be very changeable/varied:

  • First 100 km

  • Next 150 km

  • Last 50 km

  • And Bieszczady at last!

First 100 km

There's motorway to Tarnow now, isn't there?

Not yet, it is still under construction.

Let`s call the current road express way.. :):) Not bad.

Ooops, it seems I forgot to post a few important photos from Gdańsk:

Skyline views, namely. Very historical.

The first one seen from the harbour area:

Next one from a hill occupied by an old fortress or sth.

BTW, the fortress

hosts two nice museums we visited:

History of Gdańsk museum, with life size visualisations, from early alchemists:

through Napoleonic campaigns

to WW2:
Another museum is Modern Science one:
That could be all for Gdańsk.

Now I am going to develop Bieszczady Mountains but be patient because it seems we are going on another vacation trip soon.

Greetings from Dębki at the Baltic seaside. It is hot and sunny, almost cloudless. Bad luck, it is too quiet so my kids who expected fun in crashing waves are a bit disappointed. Yet, we spend 8 hours on the beach, half of which in water.

I am protracting with finishing last year`s trips, probably the bulk of photos to load here scares me off.

So, lets see some views from the seaside this year instead, I took only a few dozen photos.

Roads are getting better each year, but renovations can make your trip to the seaside longer than normal:

  • Shyt, it is 700 km way and each year I get more and more tired and bored of the distance

We arrived at 3 pm, and immediately went to the beach. The climax I usually experience wasn`t so intensive this year due to dull weather.

  • View of pine trees growing out of sandy dunes got imprinted in my mind when I was a child

Next 3 days were much better!

  • The beach when we arrived at 11am

  • Slowly it got more crowded

Unfortunately, there was an accident - a middle aged man swam far from the shore, had a heart attack and drowned - they weren`t able to save his life.

I had doubts if I should take those pics, but I did and am showing them now to issue a warning - the Baltic sea can be deadly if you are not careful. Sometimes backward currents are so strong they can carry you far into the open sea.

Next days

  • The wind can be strong

  • Kids fish for jelly fish

  • Sandcastling

  • We recreated the mountain shapes we had seen on the previous trip

When not swimming or playing with kids, my fav beach pastime is observing people walking past and comparing the size of their bellies to mine... :):):) Some have fatter, some slimmer tummies.

Mixed emotions on the beach with a real life drama dialogue:

  • So, we shall name our first child Stasiu or Bogusia....

  • And I I I I will aaaaalways love you......

  • How dare you look at other women in my presence?? I will kill you, you son.....

  • Hey, I`m sorry, I`m male, visual images are important to me, come on, why so personal....

Forecasts were pessimistic so we decided to go back after a week.

Of course, I didn`t overlook certain interesting details on the way:

  • Modern churches

  • Old churches

  • Very old churches

  • Ancient churches
