Hello,

I know that legally you have to be 21 to RENT a car, does anyone know of any ways to get around that? Causing quite a big problem as the whole holiday depends on having a car!

Thank you

you could probably find some private/small company's that rent out, or you can buy a Polonez or Maluch and give it away when you are finish with your adventure.

I second that. It would be a lot cheaper than renting. I've done this several times in the States: buy a beater for thousand bucks, drive it around the country, and then give it to a Jewish charity for a receipt of its official blue-book value so that the tax write-off was usually close to the amount I paid. Essentially, a free car. Perhaps there is some charity you can donate it to in Poland for a tax receipt, too.

Only you have to be able to register that Maluch in Poland, and as tourist that's just not possible.

Go to easycar.com, select "Poland" "Warsaw, Intercontinental Hotel" as your collection point, 16/04/2014 as collection date and 23/04/2014 as the drop-off date: the first 12 cars on offer have a minimum driver age of 19. However, the cheapest, a Ford Fiesta, is $372 for the week.

For some journeys in Poland, the train is a better choice than a car: why not replan round those journeys?

Terrible advice in my opinion - unless you plan to travel for several weeks AND know someone in PL who can help you with the whole buying/registering/insuring hassle. So this will not be a good move for everyone, especially those who will be staying for a relatively short period. First of all, you have to find something reliable within your budget; then there is insurance & registration to think of, all of which will eat up your valuable time you could have used for sightseeing and exploring. And buying a junk is always a gamble, you never know when something will give, which can mean your travel plans will be jeopardised. When you rent, you will almost always have a newer, more reliable & comfortable, safer, and more fuel efficient vehicle at your disposal.

I had a quick look here: rentacarpoland.com, the rates start from 55PLN/day for a new Ford Ka.

Sadly,

the driver must be over 21 years old and posses the driving license at least for 1 year.

Harry, yes, I've missed that; still, there seem to exist companies which do allow <21s as per your previous post...

Yes, there are; the problem is that they charge quite a lot more than the companies with a minimum age of 21.
