Paulina 13 | 3,426 9 Aug 2022 #1,236Stefan Starzyński and Julian Kulski - mayors of Warsaw in the interwar period :)
OP pawian 202 | 21,196 9 Aug 2022 #1,237Stefan Starzyński and Julian KulskiYes, excellent! Kulski is practically unknown, while Starzyński went down in history as the heroic defender of Warsaw against Hitlerites during the siege in 1939.His immortal words:I wanted Warsaw to be great. I believed it would be great. Me and my associates made plans. We made sketches of the great Warsaw of the future. And Warsaw is great. It happened sooner than we thought. Not in fifty years, not in a hundred years, but today I can see great Warsaw. When I am talking to you now, I see it through the windows in all its grandeur and glory, surrounded by clouds of smoke, reddened by flames of fire, wonderful, indestructible, great, fighting Warsaw.
OP pawian 202 | 21,196 9 Aug 2022 #1,239Yes. When younger, I cried reading them. And imagined myself a defender of Warsaw, my fave city in Poland. :):) The city which became the capital of Poland as the last of all in late 16th century and through time fully deserved its reputation as indomitable city.
Alien 12 | 2,820 11 Aug 2022 #1,240I have to go to Warsaw someday if you praise it so much. I haven't been there for over 30 years (it was terrible than).
OP pawian 202 | 21,196 11 Aug 2022 #1,241I have to go to Warsaw someday if you praise it so much.Going isn`t a bad idea. However, what will you be looking for? What do I praise exactly???You guessed asparagus but this one might be harder. What is this veg? Not a pepper, of course. And not beans.
Cojestdocholery 2 | 1,313 11 Aug 2022 #1,243When younger, I cried reading them.What happened that you turned a renegate?
OP pawian 202 | 21,196 11 Aug 2022 #1,244Looks like raddish to me...No, look at the fruit on that plant which is similar to a pepper. It blooms like that :you turned a renegate? No, you are mistaking me with Novi now. You visit the forum too rarely recently. :):):)
Paulina 13 | 3,426 12 Aug 2022 #1,245When younger, I cried reading them.I got teary-eyed when I read them too...What is this veg? Not a pepper, of course. And not beans. It blooms like that :Is it some type of pumpkin?
OP pawian 202 | 21,196 12 Aug 2022 #1,247Is it okra?Exactly! It is the first time I have had it - the taste is OK, but you`d better eat younger pods coz older ones have tough skins.I read it is very popular in the USA and Mexico. Probably it was fake news. :):):)And this?
Paulina 13 | 3,426 12 Aug 2022 #1,248@pawian, artichoke?Exactly! It was difficult! I've never heard of it before :) Interesting - I've read that it's one of the oldest vegetables.the taste is OKWhat does it taste like?
OP pawian 202 | 21,196 12 Aug 2022 #1,249Yes, artichoke!one of the oldest vegetables.Comes from Africa. :):):)What does it taste like?Like very delicate young green beans - fasolka szparagowa. The skin of young pods becomes so soft it melts in the dish, creating a jelly like texture. There are round seeds inside but they are soft too. Very interesting veg.
jon357 72 | 21,334 12 Aug 2022 #1,250What does it taste like?Delicious.Even the tinned artichoke hearts are nice
OP pawian 202 | 21,196 12 Aug 2022 #1,251Even the tinned artichoke hearts are niceA year ago I bought two jars of artichoke hearts in oil. I opened the first one, tried to content and put the jar away. The other jar is still waiting for opening. :):):)Which veg has such flowers???
