Poland in photo riddles

funeral or coffin portrait

Well done Maf! To be honest I'd never heard of them, but it's obvious once you know what it is. That's what I like about these type of threads, always the opportunity to learn something new.

connected with a famous pilgrimage site somewhere else in the world

It's not Lourdes is it?

A nice collection of coffin portraits has been gathered in the Wlianów Palace in Warsaw.

I missed out on seeing those then. I was at Wilanów Palace a couple years ago, but after getting the bus all the way out there, the palace was closed ( can't remember why now ), and I only got to have a look around the gardens :-(

Yes! Now, you can all think where in Poland a little copy of Lourdes site is located.

Meanwhile, another one: who is going on?

looks like a pilgrimage, though I have know idea where it's taken or where they're going.

Pilgrimage is enough, point for you. As for where they are going , it is easy to guess. :)

What is this animal?

Pilgrimage is enough

I once accompanied a friend on a visit home (rural świętokrzyskie) and in church the priest scolded the congregation for not volunteering to put up an upcoming pilgrimage and indicated he'd just come around to people's houses with the 'guests' if they didn't gather enough volunteers...

What is this animal?

Looks like a squirrel but it's the wrong color for Poland. Generally European Red Squirrels are cute and adorable, unlike American grey squirrels which are large aggressive rats with fuzzy tails... the university I went to was infested with the nasty buggers.

Wow, you are fast!

Looks like a squirrel but it's the wrong color for Poland

The photo`s location was Poland. And I didn`t use Paint or Photoshop. :)

the university I went to was infested with the nasty buggers.

Mine too. :)

Well it doesn't look like a trump d'oeil, and if you don't know whose portrait it is, then it can't be a self-portrait either, so in conclusion, I've got no idea at all!

When I have more time, like on Saturday night, I reread old posts and discover all hidden gems. Thank you for this delicious irony. :):)

Bonus for you, this easy riddle:

How do you call this view in Poland?

where in Poland a little copy of Lourdes site is located.

Now I am confused because unless there is more than one place, then you are referring to Gietrzwałd in northeastern Poland, but your clues said the object was in southern Poland. Although to be honest I'm also confused as to what you meant by object.........

How do you call this view in Poland?

Złota Polska Jesień.

I've always found the disconnect between different parts of Poland to be interesting. Someone doing that in Western Poland would be laughed at and ignored, yet the priest in other places (like that) has a huge amount of sway over locals.

They were laughing, but it a good natured way, sort of "yeah, you got us!" Where I am now they wouldn't laugh and would likely fume and for sure not volunteer...

This was in the countryside and one cool thing was that before the service the organist was playing hymns and everybody was singing together unprompted, I can't imagine that in a city where they barely sing even with the words projected on the wall.

There's an interesting study in there somewhere about the attitudes of church goers in some areas vs others. I've noticed that in Western Poland in general, people seem to treat the church as some sort of obligation more than anything else. I remember being at one service in a small town near Kalisz, and the glum/disinterested faces made it clear that they were going only because...well, because.

ut your clues said the object was in southern Poland. Although to be honest I'm also confused as to what you meant by object.........

Well, saying about a copy I meant not the exact rendition but rather the aim of the place (religious cult) and the atmosphere there. So, you go there to say prayers, to attend services, to drink water from the "holy" well.

Golden Polish Spring is right.
BTW, don`t forget about that black animal above.

Golden Polish Spring is right.

Autumn!

don`t forget about that black animal above.

I thought Maf had got that one. Looks to be a grey squirrel, doesn't look black to me.

No, it wasn`t grey, but black, and indeed a squirrel but melanistically mutated.)

Of course, autumn! :):)

What`s this?

Part of an elephant?........

No idea about the car, but it looks to be a mini version of some type of convertible.

which part? ?

It's a bit difficult to tell ;) It's either where the food goes in or comes out.......lol

Mini?

As in scaled down version, not the car :)

Do you mean it is a toy die -cast car?? :)

It's either where the food goes in or comes out.......lol

Wow, you guessed correctly about the elephant but aren`t sure if it is front or rear. I thought it was obvious.. :)

Do you mean it is a toy die -cast car?? :)

Clearly it's not that scaled down a version! I meant the car isn't a mini, as in the iconic British car, but then you knew that ;)

I thought it was obvious.. :)

Clearly I am not as familiar with an elephant's anatomy as you are :)

Yes, I am , we visit the zoo once a year. But guessing correctly about an elephant did require recognising a part of its trunk so it was obvious we are talking about the front. :)

Point for this elephant.

Similar context - what is happening? ( I didn`t clip the photo)

recognising a part of its trunk

I hate to say it but I wasn't entirely sure if it was the trunk or tail haha! Obvious to you as you have the photo!

A mutated cute and polite red squirrel (sooo cuuuuute) and not a nasty grey squirrel.... (spit, hock, spit)

What make is it and who was driven in this car?

It looks like an attempt at a limousine created by Skoda or Lada back in the 1980s. As for who was driven in it, a dignitary of some kind, possible Lech Wałęsa? Looks like the kind of thing you'd be assassinated in :))
