I had both in a restaurant in Miedzylesie right by the station in 2017. If I ever go back, it will be for that reason.

How was the flaki soup?

The tatar, schabowe, pierogi (not ruskie though), nalesniki, placki ziemniaczane, kielbasa, and a few others I can handle. Most the Polish food though IDK the combination of flavors just isn't for me.

That goralski cheese (oscypek) tho.... Good ****

I could eat tatar every day. It would kill me before my scheduled day of departure, though, as nobody ever accused Polish food of prolonging life.

Wodka... And galaretka around it.

I might be wrong, and it might not be a vodka shot either.

No, it is not vodka, I wouldn`t show you such obvious things. :)

It seems only a truly Polish person will know. :)

As for the main dish, it is chicken in jelly

No, it is not vodka

I believe it's vinegar which is sprinkled over the galaretka according to one's preference.

Don`t worry, tapeworms from tatars don`t kill instantly, it is a longer process. :)

Perlickzka I think, although perhaps they're quail as they seem a bit big for guinea fowl. And is that vinegar with the galaretka?

No, it is not vodka,

I was thinking of seta I galareta, but I think that is more with pork jelly than anything else.
I think Atch is correct with vinegar.

they seem a bit big for guinea fowl

Woops! I meant to say they seem a bit small for guinea fowl (perliczka). The reason I think it's vinegar with the galaretka is because that's how Mr Atch eats it, with loads of vinegar.

tapeworms from tatars don`t kill instantly

No, but food poisoning can!

I think Atch is correct with vinegar.

Yes, it is spirit vinegar. That jelly dish was served on a table during a celebration, I didn`t touch it, I never do, meat surrounded with jelly is disgusting to me. Once, as a boy, parents tried to feed it to me and I threw up after the first forkful. It is the only food which I consequently avoid throughout all my life.

No, but food poisoning can!

Well, you can usually see and smell the raw meat before mixing the ingredients, so the chances of rotten food poisoning aren`t so high.

although perhaps they're quail

Yes, very good - two quails. Funny food.

Now, these are ingredients for a certain dish - what?

I can't make out all the ingredients Pawian. I can see smoked salmon, ogórek, peach slices, and strips of meat? on the main plate, with a lemon.

Salmon pieces on the side plate? Not sure what's in the bowl, rice? Some sort of kasza? Could be black pepper in the jar. Not sure about the tube of green paste, wasabi?

I want to finish food topic for a while because I get hungry whenever I see those pics.

What is the intention behind this food?

Swienconka?

If it is, it's a bit vague. I would have expected to see eggs and bread as well. I don't know if the photos being taken at Christmas time have any significance or not.
Atch 22 | 4,128
14 Feb 2019 #1,965
Yes it's probably intended for the Christmas feast. I imagine the first one is the meat for the Bigos though I'd expect to see more than one type of sausage but then Polish dishes vary so much because every family seems to have their own spin on the recipes according to their family tradition and personal tastes. As for the second one, looks symbolic morsels of the Wigilia supper, bread and fish??
OP pawian 224 | 24,455

Yes, meat supply for Christmas time, we get it from a befriended local producer who doesn`t use any additives. The second pic is an extremely modest Christmas Eve supper

Swienconka?

If you mean Easter basket, then no, dates in the pics are important here, it is December.

Still food: What is the context of these sweets? I couldn`t resist and opened the packet with my fav ones:

Have they been bought for children on All Saints' Day when visiting graves of the deceased? I know candles and flowers are usually taken, but I remember reading somewhere that some cemeteries have stalls selling sweets.

Have they been bought for children on All Saints' Day when visiting graves of the deceased?

Yes, especially in Lesser Poland region, because I am not sure about other regions` customs. One correction only: not only for children!

Still food: what is it?

Hard to tell. It's not sliced bits of kiełbasa is it?
OP pawian 224 | 24,455
14 Feb 2019 #1,970
Nope. Note that the slices are crimson or white, not brownish like sausage.

Yeah the date threw me off. Those are all things that we put in our basket so that was the first that came to mind.

They look like some fruit or veg awaiting preserving/pickling, but it's hard to tell what they are specifically.

Veg. With one difference: they are not comfort but health food.

They look rather like beetroot but they're a bit red - might be the colour temperature of the camera though ? Beets are very good for the blood pressure, but anything pickled, if that's what you're going to do with them, is not quite so healthy.

Yes, I initially thought of beetroot, but decided against it when I looked at the rectangular piece of whatever it is in the centre jar at bottom of photo. The inside of it doesn't look like beetroot to me. Mind you, I didn't realise those white bits were slices either, thought they were lumps of cheese , so what do I know!
Atch 22 | 4,128
15 Feb 2019 #1,976
Could the white bits be slices of onion perhaps?? And is the idea to make some kind of syrup? Mr Atch makes a syrup of onion and sugar when he has a cold. He peels and slices the onion, then layers it with sugar and leaves it overnight and drinks the syrup next morning. Personally I think the benefits of the onion are considerably compromised by the amount of white sugar used in the concoction. I should add, he only does this at weekends as he wouldn't go in to work reeking of raw onion in deference to fellow-commuters and colleagues, that privilege is reserved for loved ones only :D

Now you come to mention it, it could be onion. As you said though, I'm not sure about how healthy the end product will be. As it's in jars it's obviously going to be preserved with something one way or another.

That onion and sugar home remedy thing sounds horrible, but I suppose it could be worse, could be garlic instead of onion!
OP pawian 224 | 24,455
15 Feb 2019 #1,978
Yes, I initially thought of beetroot,

They look rather like beetroot

Yes, thanks for correct guessing. It is all raw beetroot mixed with celery, horseradish, ginger and garlic. I pour water and wait until it ferments into a kind of red borsch which is good for liver and hair. I drink a lot of wine so I use borsch as a detoxicant. Healthy hair is also important because I like to look young. :):)

No onion, though. I prefer it raw.

There are plenty of articles about fermented beetroot juice, e.g.
articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2016/12/26/fermented-beets-benefits.aspx

Next - still about food, I can`t stop, heeelp.....

What is going on?

Well I see boczek in the frying pan and somebody is breaking many, many eggs so is it going to be an omelette of some kind?

It is jajecznica, or what I call Polish version of scrambled eggs. Looks like they're making breakfast.
