Hi
I am Irish but live in Liverpool.
I would like to take my two sons to Poland for a holiday 5-7 days. They are aged 11 and 13.

I would like to stay in the wilds for half the time...perhaps a log cabin? an ideal would be near a lake where we can swim safely and fish/boat. After somewhere with great scenery...forests walks or mountains...

It would also be good to take in a few nights in a city and even watch a bit of football!

I presume for swimming july/august would be best?

I am a divorced dad so not a big budget but would spend more on comfort in the city part of any holiday.

Any ideas? I would be grateful.

My first choice would be Bieszczady holidays.staypoland.com/bieszczady-mountains.aspx (Lake Solina would be perfect, I've been there) or Mazury Lakes.

Solina is a superb place, but not the easiest one to get to. For Mazury, my favourite place is the castle at Reszel:

not the easiest one to get to

There are for example buses like San Bus directly from Kraków to Solina (to Polańczyk village).

I forgot: yes, july/august would be perfect for swimming. I'd only avoid most of the Polish sea resorts during those months - tend to be terribly overcrowded and expensive.

I completely agree with that: prices are stupid then, I was once asked for 1,200zl for a night at a three-star hotel in Leba! And you can hardly see the beach for all the people on it.

For the northern half of the country, if you are into nature, I would highly recommend the Białowieża Forest (Europe's last primeval forest):

or the Suwałki & Augustów regions for lakes and forests as a an alternative to the overcrowded/overpriced Mazury in July/August.

Both of these are a bit of a trek from Warsaw, but note you can fly into Kaunas, and beat the crowds (1.5hr drive to Suwałki).

There are also very nice lakes/forests in the Kaszuby region near Gdansk and Pojezierze Drawskie near Szczecin, great forests in the Bory Tucholskie.

Merged:

Kashubia Hotel or B&B on a lake quiet with internet connection

I have got about around 10 days free so I figured I would drive to Kashubia area and find a hotel do some writing, cycling for a week or so, anyone got any good recommendations. Would like to find a decent place om a lake, good fish, cycling routes, dog friendly if not I can leave the dog at home. Feedback welcome
