Visit Słupsk/Ustka

A couple of pictures of my hometown and the place that I currently live in.
Beautiful towns, lots of tourist attractions - well worth visiting, especially
in the summer.

You've gone and made me homesick! I hate you! ;-p

Seriously though, I've visited Ustka and it's really beautiful. I only passed through Słupsk, but now I wish I'd stayed...

You have to come back one day, Magda. Let me know if you're ever in the area - I'll give
you some detailed info on things worth seeing. Take care of yourself on foreign soil and come
back soon!

Hanseatic league town! :) I knew it from seeing these photos (before I googled the history)...they are all enchanting and beautiful (if they are being kept in good order as this one is).

I love them all! :)

Brings back nice memories for me too.The tram car in the picture was one of my first port of calls for morning coffee. I wonder if the Restaurant/disco "Miami Nice" is still trading as there was some great food on the menu here.

I believe it is, but if you're looking for good food then "Pod Kluką" restaurant is the place
for you. They have amazing regional cuisine, waitresses wearing folk outfits and nice,
traditional interior decorations.

Sounds like a great restaurant and a bit "gutted" that I missed out on this last time:)

Well, make sure you don't miss it next time...

podkluka.pl

I recommend barsz z kołdunami for a start, pieczeń Belzebuba, kotlet kaszubski
or zrazy słowińskie as the main dish (preferably with smażone kopytka) and kwas
chlebowy (bread acid) for drink (if you're driving ;)) They also have many fish
dishes, great desserts and wide choice of alcohol.

I am at loss for words, Torq. I understand you're proud of your city! If I can just compare it to Norway, it has to be...well, we have nature and no architecture to match it...but being in a town that nice as yours is more important, because you're not out in the forest every day, but you are in your town...so being surrounded by the architecture you just posted, I can already sense will give you a higher quality of life. Oslo is a dung-hole compared to it, and the few nice buildings that resemble the ones you posted are usually squeezed in between some 50's-60's modern cement block-type buildings that should never have seen the light of day. How they allowed that to happen I don't know, but thank god Polish cities are so old, that they managed to build everything in the same era. Imagine some ugly modern cement blocks next to any of the beautiful old style houses you posted...it just kills it. (I know you have super-ugly blocks and areas in Poland too, but the old towns can't be ruined at least).

Not quite the view from our window, but near as dammit (300m walk). This is Ostrów Tumski in Poznań, which is the oldest Christian site in Poland (or some very similar claim to fame). 15 minutes' walk roughly to Poznan's old market square.

I should warn you there are a lot of hoodies in the area. Franciscans, for the most part :)

I recently had the great pleasure of visiting Poland for the first time. I was on the train from Wrocław to Kraków and noticed some things outside of Brzeg...areas of land, subdivided into smaller plots, each plot having a structure on it. To me, these looked like garden sheds in a community garden. After looking at some properties available on oferty.net, though, it appeared that these "sheds" are homes, that they are inhabited. Is this true? Are these houses?

Are these houses?

Not exactly...they are what we in the UK would call allotments...

But they do have some nice little houses on them as opposed to the sheds that we in the UK have.... very usefull for summer parties..

Excellent, thanks! That's what I was hoping the answer would be (it would be sad it these were permanent homes). :)

Some of them are nice enough to live in , if you like the simple life , but usually they are used for the odd barbeque , and party when its nice weather..

Another attempt

few more..

Very interesting place, and one you might not think you'd see in Poland. It's a little off the beaten path, but worth a visit.
