One thing that gets me (both my parents are from the coast and I was a sailor for a few years) is how people in PL love big prawns. The smaller ones are way better however the middle classes there were introduced to them via the big ones that look fancy.
With shrimps, smaller is better in terms of flavour.

I'm in my 40s too and have my own company. Not been a party animal for at least 5 years, I'm a proper oldcvnt now who loves his living room and his TV. He does have a point - I shouldn't be here talking bollocks tonight. But neither should he, in that case.

I hardly ever see prawns at restaurants here. I'd love to see some shrimp fried rice or sweet and sour prawns at the 'asian bars' though. But I've hardly ever eaten prawns since I moved here.

That's a lie. I eat shrimp 3-4 times a week, I do know he differences. Back in Poland in the best supermarket in the center of Warsaw, I tried to get a decent shrimp, but all that was presented a shrivel up, something resembling a louse. Here in America, it would be illegal to sell a junk like this. Even a popcorn shrimp which is not intended for a consumption as individual pieces, rather an additive to a pasta dish is immensely superior to the shrivel up sonneting offered in Warsaw supermarket. So, Jon you know jack. Size 6 -7 to a pound is ideal, not 60 to 70.

The first time I tried it I hated it. Think it was from a supermarket and I honestly thought sushi would be pretty much the same everywhere. Rice and fish.
Years later I got taken to a Japanese restaurant and the person I was with said to just try it, it's not all the same. I was instantly converted. Now I love it and make a point of having some if I go for Japanese food.

If you ask it means you have no idea what the proper shrimp is and how it tastes Just apply the logic, before opining.

I am not sure that a colossal shrimp is available in Poland. In my experience looking for a descent shrimp was an exercise of futility.
Jon, I know your culinary knowledge is extensive, but your knowledge of shrimp is limited.

What distance have got to do with it?
This is America the land of plenty, every little hole thousands of kilometers from the sea, has got access to quality and quantity of the fresh seafood.
Maybe the better excuse would be that seafood is not preferable to Polish palate. My first years in America, even an innocent mention if a raw clam or the oyster brough the gaging instinct to the surface. Years later, thanks to my Italian friends' I love the delicacy, with a passion

I don't mind it that much - it doesn't disgust me or anything - but I just can't get excited about it. It's not satisfying to me at all. I would never choose to have sushi over something else I actually really enjoy.
It's massively overrepresented in the Polish food scene, to an insane degree. There's no real Cantonese dim sum, pretty much, in the entire country. Good Mexican food is also pretty hard to get. Indian food is becoming more prevalent, which is nice. But despite Poland having a truly miniscule Japanese minority population and few real ties with the country, there's sushi everywhere. It's really pretentious and irritating.

I can't begrudge the Poles their festive traditions but I have to say that a dirty mud-fish kept in your bathtub is not as good as a crisp roast bird like a goose or turkey.
And then these proud people have the big balls to act like their cuisine is somehow better than that of those of us that don't eat mud-fish for Christmas and entire cartons of farty boiled egg for Easter?

Just because a bar is called Japanese or Korean doesn't mean your food will be such. Try a pizza in Italy vs in Poland, or Mexican food in Poland vs Mexico, they are from two different planets.
