Cost of "living" Zakopane (Tourist)

Me and several of my friends plan on visiting Zakopane during the summer.

I would appreciate if you could assist me with breaking down the cost for some of the following.

A meal in a restaurant.

Train from Krakow to Zakopane ( i know this will vary etc but a guesstimate or average would be nice)

Pint in a pub.

If I think of anything else I will add it but feel free to just tell me the prices of stuff you deem relevant or, tell me what you would advise a young male to bring to Zakopane for fourteen days, keeping in mind you'll be with several other people and two of those lads, birthdays will fall within these fourteen days.

Take what you would pay in Aspen, multiply by 2 and you will be close to the truth.

I went to Zakopane a year or two ago for a weekend, try as I might I couldn't even spend €100
pint is 7/8zl which is about €2
A dinner would be about €5

bring baked beans :) coz ya cant get them around here...well the big hypermarkets is all
and bring warm clothes, if you drink whiskey it might be hard to get anything decent in the shops...like you'll get the bog standard jameson but that's about it.

Bottle of vodka, less than 20zl, cans of beer are usually around 10zl for 4 cans..& that would be the decent beer.

train to zakopane, i think is around 30-40zl, but try and get a private company bus, trains here are fookin freezin this time of year and always full so hard to get a seat....if there's that many of ye, call some private hire minibuses in Krakow and hire it there and back, but then again since you're gonna be here for 2 weeks, you'd be better off renting cars or a minivan man, like Zakopane is nice & all, but after the first few days you'll run outta things to do, unless you're skiing.

bring DVDs and a scart cable so you can connect a laptop to the tv watch some movies now and again, they probably wont have a dvd player in the place and the only english language channels that you'll get are euronews/bbc news and that's only if the place has cable, which it probably wont if it's a holiday home, if I think of anything else I'll PM ya.

Sher, we'll have to bring the Barrys tea with us, I was looking at hypermarkets there's an "alma" near one of the apartments were planing on renting and they have a nice variety of whiskeys - although mostly imported so more expensive anyway I befriended a pole quite a while ago since then have become more fond of vodka than whiskey.

(Alma24.pl) (Yes I have enough spare time to go search for supermarkets to get an idea of drink turns out if 5 of us lads contributed 25 euro each we would get something like 30*4Packs of Tyskie and 6 various bottles of vodka - shocked to say the least)

We will be going in July (as I failed to mention) after our leaving cert's 5 other lads and my girlfriend. Spending 11 days in Zakopane then 2 days in my girlfriend down - Przemyśl.

Unfortunately as of yet none of us have a full license but if someone pulled one out of the bag before July we would go for renting a car, but the insurance might be ridiculous for a foreign tourist who just got there license.

As for stuff to do I cant see a problem with this,

Mountain Biking
Quading
Mountain climbing (Bit pricey)
Rafting

To be fair, all the places we've been looking at are fairly classy ending up at only around 160 euro each for us for the eleven days but I suppose thats something substantial considering its almost 4000zl for a person living and working in an economy such as Poland.

Jaysus ya must be cultured or something, thought most leaving cert'ers went to Ibiza or Ayia Napa.

The time I stayed there I think I only paid €8 a night in a b&b yea 160 is steep but I suppose it's not so bad seeing as zakopane is meant to be the best of poland's winter resorts, although if I were you I'd try and rent a house/big apartment just coz 10 days of constantly eating out twice a day will bore the fúck outta ye.

Loving the Tyskie...best Polish beer, mighty stuff. feck the taebags, plenty of tae over here, bring taytos though, impossible to get decent small bags of crisps here :P

Looks like you'll have plenty to do anyway so you'll be kept busy...oh you're student cards aren't worth a fúck over here, I found that out the first year I was here, doesn't matter if it has EU or whatever written on them, ticket collectors on trains are for the most part pure spas and will try and get every penny they can outta ya, but fúck it like for a tenner a head you could prob get a taxi down & back and travel with a bit more comfort. contact the krakow tourist office they'll have numbers for renting big taxis to zakopane.

dont bother with the whisky man, as they say over here, you dont bring a stick with you if you're going to a forest, loads and laods of different vodkas to keep ya busy

anyway, eating out isn't expensive if you're coming with euros and if you're gonna be cooking & eating in an apartment then it's about a quarter of that again....which means more money for pints

Then speak to your girlfriend about going to the Ukraine Lviv, it is well worth the visit and as cheap as chips.

yea, you should check it out for sure, bring back the lads in Ireland some apple and some pear vodka....for about €2

We always planned on renting out an apartment or house. The two houses we tried to contact where already booked out for the July and august. . . There's a nice apartment free for that period that I might consider If I cant find another house.

My concern with an apartment is - we are going to be fairly loud and I don't want to annoy people/Get noise complaints.

And as for the spirits discussion, When in Rome(Poland) etc etc, Vodka it is.

And on a side note; If by cultured you mean not a load of scumbag twats you've hit the right note. But besides that me and my friends aren't exactly the "Club and bangin toones" crowd, so Ibiza has no appeal to any of us.

Also Lviv, Ill keep that idea for another trip I think we will be fairly busy for the time we have planned.

As regards to bringing home drink. Przemyśl is on the border of the ukarine thus cheap fags and drink at a "car boot sale" equivalent. They'll be going in my check-in luggage and ill take advantage of the duty free.

Apple or pear I can get over here, but Smirnoff Black Lable is hard to get in Ireland (Yes I know it's smirnoff still) also Belvedere or Chopin Vodka I wouldn't mind. Wouldn't mind bringing some wisniowa home either.

They'll probable be plenty used to it lad or else you'll be far enough away form them...houses here are like Ireland, not such thing as a semi-detatched here man :) So you'll prob be able to make a right racket
