HEALTH INSURANCE GUIDE FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS IN POLAND

Poland has a good reputation for their high academic institutions and universities. More than 60'000 international students are studying in Poland and the amount is growing each year.

All foreign students are required to take out adequate health insurance. However, different nationalities can differ the standard requirements of the basic health insurance in Poland one should have.

For foreign students from third countries (non-EU/EEA/Switzerland)

Students coming from third countries (e.g. Ukraine, Russia, China, USA, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Brazil or etc.) are required to apply for a medical and assistance insurance before arrival in Poland. Insurance is required in order to obtain a student visa and of course to cover their medical expenses during their studies in Poland.

Swisscare Europe, one of the leading international student health insurance provider offers an all-in-one online insurance services from only EUR 197 for 365 days.

This insurance is valid for student visa application and offers all necessary insurance coverage in case of medical emergencies such as:

● Worldwide cover (excluding home country, USA and Canada)
● Emergency sickness and accident
● Inpatient treatments (hospitalization)
● Outpatient treatments (practitioner consultations)
● Prescribed medicines
● Search and rescue
● Repatriation to home country
● Evacuation
● Third-party liability
● Assistance 24 / 7

With this insurance, you do not need to purchase another insurance if you travel to other countries during your study period, as the insurance provides the same coverage worldwide except your home country, USA and Canada.

For Foreign Students from EU/EEA/Switzerland

All foreign students coming (nationality) from the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland will be required for their national health insurance, the EHIC Card (European Health Insurance Card).

With the EHIC card, students are entitled in the same social security as provided by the Polish national health insurance Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (NFZ).

However, it is highly recommended to purchase additional insurance due to the limited service performance of the Polish national health insurance Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (NFZ).

Covers like emergency repatriation, medical evacuation, ambulance transport by air, sea or ground, accidental death and disability, third-party liability and much more are not covered by the basic NFS and can be extremely expensive to be included.
