Let's talk about cars

"Don't even think about it",

A real sleeper was Buick GNX. Looked like a regular Regal and needed only 4.4s to get up to 60. I had a 1987 Regal with a turbo with the column shifter. That was fun...

We need some fun in our lives!

Its been over 5 years since I sold "my last motorcycle".. Now, I wish, I hadn't. Must be a mid life crisis....lol

Compared to my 1973 Eldo, that's a lawnmower

My friend had one of those gas guzzlers. It was like a boat rolling down the street.

Those cars were so much fun to drive!

How about Pontiac GTO....

English "muscle cars" from 60/70th. Here we are: Jaguar F type, Jensen Interceptor, AC Cobra, Rover Vitesse or Lotus Esprit. Some of them with an American engine.

How about Pontiac GTO....

Today, even Lexus LS has to have a flush-to-fender tire fit to look decent. I spent some major money to replace 245's with 285's on my SC430.

To many guys, wide tires are hotter than their 36DD girlfriends. That's why I like Jags XKR with the stock 285's. They look really cool.

I couldn't find and quarter mile specs. on those back in the 60/70's.
Definitely nice cars though as for the limited numbers produced.

Never drove one, but they sure as hell looked good.

One of these days somebody will explain to my satisfaction why cars need bolsters. I mean the kind that prevents the occupant from breathing.
When I ask I get this sheepish smile and the obligatory crap about carving corners as if it was legal or moral to go that fast.

The same with the 15-minute seats that feel like plywood and the suspension that gives you a jolt when you run over a cigarette butt. "People like sporty" is what I hear at Lexus where the average buyer is 100 years old. Sporty my ass...

What is in the hell are. "bolsters"?

Do you mean the seat shape?
johnny reb 40 | 7,786

A cushion to sit on to be comfortable.
Miloslaw 15 | 4,697

A cushion? In a car?
Really?
OP Novichok 4 | 7,297

Quoting:

Bolsters provide better lateral stability to keep occupants correctly positioned also when driving the car at high speeds. A well-designed bolster system hugs the driver tighter for those fast turns on the twisty roads.

johnny reb 40 | 7,786

Those are bucket seats.
I didn't know they called them bolsters too.

A cushion? In a car?

Cushioned bucket seats.
OP Novichok 4 | 7,297
20 Dec 2021 #104
Those are bucket seats.

You are right. Stil the same name. It's those vertical sides that squeeze the hell out of your chest that they call "bolsters".

The same with the seats except those are not as obnoxious. Try to spend 10 hours in that contraption without being able to wiggle...It's all a marketing gimmick to make them feel younger.

Did you know that some naturally quiet cars pump noise into the cabin? That's why I would never spend any serious money on an upgraded car radio.
Alien 12 | 2,803

@Novichok : pump noice into the cabin...
Yes its true. For example Mercedes AMG line (AMG-line is not real AMG).

That's what we call them here too.

Name the muscle cars built in the 60's and 70's in Britain that were competitive

An ignorant question that shows that you have zero knowledge of life outside of the USA.

I'm talking in the quarter mile.

More ignorance.
Except for Santa Pod Raceway, we don't really care about that here.
0 to 60 is what matters.

Despite your obvious ignorance, I will tell you that the A.C. Cobra killed.all.your muscle cars.Yeh, some of them had an American engine, but they were British.

Also some Aston Martin's would give you a good race......

Blue. I love my Harley. Never been a big fan of crotch rockets, but I do like the European bikes - KTM, Aprilla, Ducati, etc. although many of their lines are the touring style.
OP Novichok 4 | 7,297

Dirk, which one would you have, this or black? Both cars are silver. The true color is as you see it on the passenger door.

Same here. . I miss riding a lot after about 5 years now, the scenery and the freedom cant be duplicated in a car. However, I dont miss all the other crappy drivers ( sorry I didnt see you) illegal foreign drivers, pot holes and mask holes make it too dangerous around our area. I guess, Im getting old.

I built an electric bike last summer and it goes 30mph and Im going to do some modifications over the winter.

Have you see those guys that ride around bicycles that dress like Lance Armstrong? The ones in tights... Well, they all hate me! lol I see them on the bike path and im fake peddling right behind them and then pour on the throttle..Eat my Dust! Haha I get some dirty looks, too funny!

Ill take a pic of it

Oh the irony.

we don't really care about that here.
0 to 60 is what matters.

Your electric A.C Cobra is not a muscle car, it is a race car that goes from 0-60 in 4 seconds compared to the new American made electric Tesla Roadster will go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in a mind-bending 1.1 seconds.

Class dismissed

0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in a mind-bending 1.1 seconds.

How many gees is that? Do the driver's eyeballs stay in the sockets?
Alien 12 | 2,803
23 Dec 2021 #114
Electric car? I am still not convinced. New battery for your 1,1 sec Tesla costs 20000 Euro. How much cost a fuel tank for AC Cobra? I have yesterday signed for a new... VW Golf classic for my wife and no electric.
johnny reb 40 | 7,786
23 Dec 2021 #115
In all fairness Tesla's are not muscle cars and neither are A.C. Cobra's.
They made 3 to 4 hundred A.C. Cobras race cars at $170k each while Detroit made thousands of muscle cars for $3 - $4 thousand each.
Every Vet back from Nam' in the late 60's had one dragging up and down Woodward Avenue in Detroit in those days of old.
From one stop light to the next banging gears.
(Could you picture a 396 cu.in. - 375 horsepower Chevelle, right off the showroom floor drag racing down a main street in London at 120 m.p.h. against a 389 cu.in. 400 horsepower Pontiac G.T.O. with tri power) lmao

As usual Mr. Angry shows his limited knowledge and jealousy of America's superiority. Tisk Tisk !

Not at all, I love all those old American cars.
I never said the AC Cobra was a muscle car, you did.
And you cant compare a sixties sports car to a modern electric Tesla.
That shows true ignorance.

@joker

Blue.
Point taken.

You can say what you want but, for me, those old American cars from the sixties and seventies and acrually from the forties and fifties too,

Were just great.

@Joker

I love.them.all.
That is what the ignorant JR missed.
And he is too dumb to understand the difference between European and American cars.
I love them both.
He just thinks in terms of American supposed superiority.
And.the.supposed.jealousy and inferiority of Europeans, when the.reverse.is.the.trurh.
When he is not comparing like.with like.
His lack of appreciation of European car makers just shows his blinkered ignorance.
Aston Martin, TVR, AC,Mclaren,,Jaguar, Lotus... to name.a.few British marques ....and.then we have Porsche,Ferrari,Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo and.many more.top class car maufacturers.

Churning.out.a.stream of cheap muscle.cars is.one.thing.
Creating, building and designing superb sports cars is.quite.another.

Do you really wonder why nobody believes a word you say

Ahem, I think it is the other way round mate...... You have lost.all credibility on this.forum some.time.ago.... Goodbye!
