As a testament to just how square and out of it I am, I was driving earlier this week and hears a "new" Ozzy song. I thought it was some posthumous release. It was hooky enough, but the guitar solo was fantastic. The solo didn't sound like Zak Wylde but it had a familiar sound. Come to find out it was Jeff Beck. Beck doesn't cease to amaze, always expanding his musical voice.
I get home and look up the tune, and find out the album was released in 2022 and Beck is featured on two of the songs (Clapton and Iommi are also on the album). Here's second song Beck solos on:

It's not sampling or motorcycle revving. There's a drumstick click at about 5 second mark. So, it's actual drumming. Word has it Alex played intro on a simmons electric drum kit, hence the stick click and the modulated sound, before introducing the shuffle on the bass drums followed by the Gene Krupa beat on the toms.
But, who cares, all that matters is it sounds super cool.
@Miloslaw Anyone who cares about music despises AI crap. Exactly zero creativity, no life, no substance. Nothing that can make you feel something either good or bad just the blandest bollox possible and that's being positive about it. To cap it all AI zombies deprive real musicians of employment.
I think that what is currently being sold as AI is nothing more than a party trick to manipulate the market. That's what it's called and a blind man on a charging horse can see there is as much creativity with it as there is with a dessert bar and hundreds and thousands. I remember the stories about the big asteroid hitting the earth when they needed investment in missile interceptors.
The long and short is "music" created using this technology is soulless drivel.
It's not so much AI as artificial memory. Nevertheless it's growing fast and some scientists involved have said that it's happening in ways they hadn't predicted.
And the data centres they want to build are a real problem too.
Mind you, the tech on public display is always well behind the tech that the military etc are working on and I'd not put it past China to be further ahead with this than is known.
One strength is setting up automated processes to do difficult and timeconsuming tasks quickly and in bulk. You do have to keep reminding AI of the specific task (for some reason it gets creative) and anything done by ai does need checking however we're in the early stages yet.
If the very first proper computers were the tech equivalent of the first steam pumps in the 1690s (apparently they weren't much good), we're probably about a decade before James Watt at the moment.
The important thing is making sure that no single country has control over the tech.
About music, there atenintetetibf ways AI can be used however we can be sure that instead of interesting things, it'll mostly be a race to the bottom.

If I recall correctly the first computers were all women number crunching. The name was applied to the machine rather than the person and traditional "female skills" associated with the job like typing were appropriated by men.
I don't particularly like Sci Fi but remember reading something about time travel and a Victorian engineer bringing the steam engine to the Romans. The knock on effect was that they landed on the moon in 1492.

That's how it was. I'm thinking of the first mainframes thought. Btw, it wasn't only women; my first job was number crunching on a giant electromechanical machine called a comptometer. I only did the basics though; the comptometrists (mostly female) could do all sorts with them.

There are plans for the largest one in Europe to be built just outside of Great Torrington in Devon. An 850 acre site and they want to rip up vast swathes of the countryside to build it. 24 major sites planned for Scotland.

Time to introduce you to Dovydas Maščinskas a Lithuanian born man that moved to The USA when he was about 9 years old. He is a brilliant musician and guitarist in his own right and is largely a "Street Musician" but is so well known that he attracts brilliant guitarists to come and play at his gigs!
Dovydas is also a generous host and never "Hogs the Limelight" allowing guitarists that join him on stage to show what they are capable of.
Remember, all this stuff is just "Jamming"..... amazing!
