Oh, I agree! Integration remains Germany's greatest, indeed most difficult, challenge at the moment, bar none. One solution might be to be more selective as to whom the government even allows into the country. As far as the millions of migrants currently residing in the Federal Republic, legally or illegally? Probably economic integration becomes more important than either linguistic or social integration, in fact, one and the same thing. If, say, an Iranian newcomer is a whiz in marketing, computer graphic, even the fashion as well as the field of gastronomy and other creative areas, language skills will fall into place and therefore, the "foreignness" of the outsider will slowly but surely somehow become absorbed into the broader society.
I realize too that Germany isn't America. A pity that people such as Merkel, Schroeder along with SPD predecessors didn't realize this a lot sooner.
You're ignoring a fundamental flaw in the German character, whereby the "German people" willfully and with malice of forethought took it upon themselves to decide life or death over an entire group of individuals by ruthlessly, to be sure, with ultimate savagery expunging, rather than legislating intelligent and enlightened policies whereby Roma, Jews, and others might actually co-exist within the same society. Germany's failed 1848 Revolution (Vormaerz) in essence surrendered complete authority to the government, among other bodies, the police, thereby squashing the last gasp of democracy in Germany, roughly until the ill-fated Weimar Republic during the 1920's which turned out to be almost as much a joke on the Germans as Chamberlain's "Herr Hitler assures me........of peace in our time." was on the rest of Europe!!

As much as the AfD would righten some things gone seriously wrong inside Germany during the last decades, it could complicate our outside relationships...*looking at Poland*
AfD thinks a good understanding with Russia would be alot more beneficial for german security and economy than being part of the West is, no matter who rules in Moscow!
(Or at least alot in the AfD think that way today, that doesn't mean that once the AfD would be in power she hasn't to take a more realistic stance and correct these points!)
