Warsaw mayor defiles Ghetto observance with anti-Semitic charges

GW has reported that Warsaw mayor Gronkiewicz-Waltz harangued Holocaust survivors and foreign visitors at an anniversary ceremony of the 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Uprisng with visions of Polish anti-Semitism. She mentioned that several months ago at the other end of Poland someone had burnt a Jew in effigy. Her remarks were widely criticised as highly inappropriate on such an occasion. It was just as inappropriate as using the occasion to remind people that Jews were among post-war Poland's bloodiest secret-police murderers and torturers. Some observers are wondering whether Waltz had been ptu up to it by Schetyna who knew President Duda would be present and that foreign journalists would readily latch on to any whiff of anti-Semitism because that sells newspapers and increases TV ratings. Schetyna is known to use every opportunity to denigrate, contest, undermine, deride or smear Poland's current pro-Polish administration and president.

Entirely appropriate for the Mayor to comment, whether you agree with it or not.

current pro-Polish administration

Anti-Polish if anything.

Poland's current pro-Polish administration

PiS is pro-PiS and nothing more. If you genuinely think they care about the country (and are not simply on their payroll) then you are in for a world of heartbreak once you realize what they're all about (cronyism and power and vengeance)

Entirely appropriate

For balance shouldn't she have mentioned the post-war "achievements" of Berman, Brystygier, Różański, Fejgin, Romkowski, Wolińska, Mietkowski, Czaplicki, Morel and, of course, Stefan Michnik to name but a few.

Why would she make reference to post-war figures that you dislike during a commemoration of the Ghetto Uprising?

Why would she make reference

Why would she make reference to an isolated hanging in effigy months ago in Wrocław. That was certainly not germaine to the occasion.
Someone could have mentioned that Poles supplied Ghetto fighters with some guns and ammo but nowhere near what was needed. That may have put Poles in none-too-favourable a light but at least it would have pertained to the uprising.

hanging in effigy months ag

It's a current event that's relevant.

What sort of sick person would do a

hanging in effigy

anyway?

What sort of sick person

In a country of 38 million one can expect most anything including walls smeared with unsightly grafitti slandering Jews, Russians, Legia fans, priests, homos, feminists, politicians and most anyone else you can think of. An isolated incident that occurred many months ago was not only not current but was totally out of place and in very poor taste. Warsaw's poor excuse for a mayor would do better to repair the city's roads and beef up crime prevention and law enforcement rather than trying to hog the limelight at solemn state events.

Well, you're obviously entitled to your views, however extreme. Nevertheless, the Mayor cannot be expected to tailor her speech to fit the prejudices of someone who thinks

Jews... they are clever and crafty bastards

clever and crafty

The only adjetcive I migth add is shrew and clannish. Those are the secrets of their success. Poles are the exact antithesis -- envious, petty and constantly at each other's throats. The 11-year-old Polish-Polish war is the best exampel. Any Jew would step back and say: Oy vey! Vy vaste so much time, money and effort only for hot air? In 11 years think how many vise investments could be made?"

Her remarks were widely criticised as highly inappropriate on such an occasion.

Her remarks were criticised only by the kind of people who would criticise anything at all that she said because she was the one who said it. Those who are not blinded by a love of PIS know that the ghetto uprising ceremony is exactly the right place to mention Poland's current struggle against the dark forces of anti-semitism.

What sort of sick person would do a hanging in effigy anyway?

Probably the kind of person who openly uses the word 'wog' to describe other people, which, by some strange coincidence, is exactly what Po himself does.

So the tag team is back on track. People have been giving lower-case jon the business, but now you can spring to his rescue.
And then there are people who would defend anything Waltz would say simply because she said it. Welcome aboard the Gronkiewicz bandwagon!

There probably are; however, I'm not one of them. I've never voted for her, although one time I simply didn't vote at all as that way the better way to oppose her opponents. I wonder who you vote for in mayoral elections. Oh look, more off-topic ad hom trolling from you, how entirely unexpected.

People have been giving lower-case jon the business,

If you think that posting racist rubbish, whining pointlessly and floundering in your lies is 'business', then that does explain a lot about your situation...

Those who are not blinded by a love of PIS know that the ghetto uprising ceremony is exactly the right place to mention Poland's current struggle against the dark forces of anti-semitism.

Exactly. And nobody pays much attention to that...

Gronkiewicz-Waltz

That would be the same Gronkiewicz-Waltz who was successfully re-elected...

Gronkiewicz-Waltz who was successfully re-elected

... but only thanks to the backing and string-pulling of the Tusk propaganda team and political machine. No surprise there!

ad hom trolling

You learnt that term not too long ago (as many others have noticed) and now you're riding it to death. It's a good riposte when one has nothing meaningful to say.

posting racist rubbish

I'm not the only one who has seen through you, in fact some have called Waltz "scum" which is more than I have done. I used to refer to her as Gronkowiec (staph infection), but no more, unless cat Duda, dud Duda, the Duck and similar reappear.

Not at all. If anything the key factor was that a lot of those who make the most noise about her didn't vote against her. Given the amount of complaining you do about her, remind us whether you voted for one of her opponents or not.

Given that it was started by a non-voter, there's a lot of sniping in this thread about the very successful and twice elected Mayor...

Gronkiewicz-Waltz harangued Holocaust survivors and foreign visitors.

Utter scum. A good example of what these people are about. They would be happy If we got bombed by Russia, just because they could blame it on PiS.
