No, only those who choose to move to Poland and spend the rest of their lives in Poland should speak Polish, anyone outside Poland has absolutly no need to learn Polish in any formal way.Certainly should not be tax payer funded outside Poland outside of say one hour a week in school.

check our previous discussion, unfortunately I forged that thread title.Minorities in Poland are far from being discriminated against, that is the point.

I don't hate them, silly, I'm not impressed thought. Question is whatever they are nation at all and if they are maybe their are Samogitians famous for their stubbornness and inflexibility.

It's a question?

Same could be said for Poland - can you really have a nation without the majority of its elite?

Why should lithuanian kids be taught in Polish in Lithuania? If they are Polish why dont they move to Poland? Im sure there is room with all the Polish people that still live around here, and whose kids go to school and speak English, being in England.

You love to scream that poles are discriminated, yet Poland does that for 20 years. Compare education laws for minorities in Poland and Lithuania.

I don't hate them, silly, I'm not impressed thought. Question is whatever they are nation at all and if they are maybe their are Samogitians famous for their stubbornness and inflexibility.

Yeah, but in every discussion, that has anything about lithuanians, you call them idiots, bastards, etc.

yet Poland does that for 20 years.

Prove it!by providing examples of alleged discrimination.

Yeah, but in every discussion, that has anything about lithuanians, you call them idiots, bastards, etc.

Look, you guys( no offense )claim to be Lithuanians. When in fact GDofL from the very beginning were multicultural. During centuries Lithuania identity crystallized around three ethnic trunks;not only one.

So, going against centuries worth development and traditions; arbitrary reviving one of Lithuanian languages as the only language, then out of the blue claiming Wilno as capital while ignoring what comes with it.

Nowadays, discriminating Poles, and playing games while there is about 2,4 mln so called Lithuanians and half of them in USA or EU.( as opposed to about 36 mln Poles)

What would you call them then ?

Prove it!by providing examples of alleged discrimination.

Not allowing Lithuanians to use any Lithuanian surnames and first names which require Lithuanian characters would be the most obvious example. That and refusing to approve text books in Lithuanian for most subjects taught at the 'Lithuanian' schools in Poland.

if we Serbians hope in expansion of Poland and Polish language, what`s wrong with Lithuanians? Are we Serbs total idiots or maybe opposite- are we Serbs extraordinary wise and sensing inevitable incoming future, while are Lithuanians happen to be absolutely backward?

i would pray for our Sarmatian brothers in Lithuania. Let Christ, hand in hand with Svetovid, show them way

After decades of scrubbing out racism in the UK our allowance of separating school children by creed was a step back from integration. having Polish as a first language in Lithuania will reduce social mobility unless Lith's want them kept down or to gtfb to Poland it's a bad move, the government are right not to allow it. The Polish parents are slitting their own kids throats by demanding this.

And the compulsory studies in Polish, too. The same thing that the parents (not the children!) in Lithuania are going crazy about.

Even some Lithuanian names are barred in Poland - for instance, Agne, Egle, Giedre and more. All valid female names, yet due to the requirement for female names to end in 'a' in Poland - no such luck here.

And I doubt that names such as "JADVYGA" would ever be allowed to be registered in Poland when there's a Polish variant.

The Polish parents are slitting their own kids throats by demanding this.

The parents have been totally and utterly manipulated by politicians if you ask me.

nobody is asking YOU!

I don't think that a government should have say it this, parents know better, as long as kids pass A levels in the local lingo (and they do) it shouldn't be nobody's concern.

As for names that is secondary issue - a pretext. The point is that Lithuanians discriminate Poles in other areas while Lithuanians in Poland have their rights protected. Lithuanians are going back not only on agreements that signed with Poland but also EU regulations.

What about re-privatization when certain areas (Wilno) was excluded from the process taking place in that country, and guess what - those areas have Polish majority.

And how do are they discriminated? More than than minorities in Poland?

They you go, a chart that compares rights of minorities in Poland and Lithuania:

They you go, a chart that compares rights of minorities in Poland and Lithuania:

That newspaper is funded by awpl, so any info regarding lithuanian-polish relations or education is not shown in true colors. It is like looking in some polish kresy website. Find some real evidence.

You constantly repeat that lithuanians discriminate poles in many ways, maybe you could give us top 10 facts of discrimination? Also, before you start, think about Poland's policies towards minorities, especially german minority.

Why should lithuanian kids be taught in Polish in Lithuania?

because Poles were there first?they live there for centuries

And I doubt that names such as "JADVYGA" would ever be allowed to be registered in Poland when there's a Polish variant.

foreigners(also minority) can name their children whatever they like

think about Poland's policies towards minorities, especially german minority.

oh please do tell how they are discriminated?because according to my informations, they have more rights then Poland was obliged to give them

No they can not, which is why nobody in Poland would be allowed to name their son Lê Văn Duyệt. And heaven forbid that anybody thinks Triệu Thị Trinh is a suitable name for their daughter!

Lithuanians living in Poland aren't foreigners, they're Polish citizens.

It's a Catholic thing, Crow ;) ;)

its not for joking my friend. i am confused. Why other Catholics oppress Poles? It was case back in time of Grunwald battle and it is case now. Why? Poles have some problem with Vatican?

We Serbs experienced difficulties with Vatican, too. Our Catholics were practically destroyed by Vatican and, they are still target. What Orthodox Serbs got from Vatican i won`t even mention. It seams that Protestant Germany has much bigger influence on Vatican, then Slavic Catholics.

The dispute is more territorial than one of religion, Crow. As you know, they had a Commonwealth which worked well for some time before inevitable rifts appeared. It's also about the right to use your language version of your name.
