rightO,sorry . :) Wasnt meant badly, just I know how bonkers some of the "Equality" and "incitment"laws are getting here these days. People who work for the UK Police have been fired or penalised for far less, (possible legal interpretation) racialy inflamitory postings on line. Should have been a pm chat though maybe, will MODS maybe remove these posts then please?

remove what? it's good to hear how neutered free speech about gypsies is on the island.

no,you missunderstand,I can say what the heck I like,no problems, but, for instance when I was in the civil service it was a different case, all sorts of restrictions, part of the official secrets act. the confusion was if M worked for the police she could have got in trouble repeating such views off line in the way they have to have (allegedly ...) higher standards....

there is no neutared free speach for private citizens here....beyond some daft self censorship that goes on

so I'll put it plainly. Please remove this part of the thread
If you want to continue the debate on free speach Im happy to use a different example for debates sake.

acording to my mates in the UK police you're verging close to breaking a sh1t load of laws here M

Which laws would that be?

Theres more examples Im sure, but it ties in with using police equipment, divulging information ,incitement( I didnt see incitment but Im not a money grubbing "rights lawyer".).

Others have got in trouble for posting "jokes" etc too on line.......
But again, pretty irelevent to the topic now its been cleared up.

Lets get back to the original topic now!

Merged thread:
Racial or behavioural discrimination

Loud, unruly patrons -- whether they be Brits who defecate on the floor of Kraków pubs or Gypsies who don't know how to behave in public -- should be escorted out and turned over to police.

But the self-styles 'human-rights defenders' of Gazeta Wybiórcza's ilk scream bloody murder and hurl accusations of racism right and left.
In January, the Gazeta Wybiórcza daily revealed that several people of Roma origin were kept out of pubs or restaurants in Poznań because the owners claimed that they 'enter in large groups, raise hell and make a mess.'

What if this this wasn't just an empty claim? What if they really do raise hell and make a bloody mess?

Never seen that

Gypsies who don't know how to behave in public

Or that

But here's the crux

But the self-styles 'human-rights defenders' of Gazeta Wybiórcza's ilk scream bloody murder and hurl accusations of racism right and left.

If they're treated differently because of who they are then yes it is discrimination.

For someone who professes to be a Christian, you don't seem to show much tolerance, compassion or understanding. Why not break your lenten fast and get your blood sugar levels back up and your blood pressure levels down.

That would be a problem in a museum, funeral service or bank. Not in a pub. Perhaps they just don't spend enough for the proprietor to forget the bigotry.

Never seen that

Go to the Oktoberfest in Munich. You'll be suprised. :)

Or that

Or anyone else, maybe? ;)

owners claimed that they 'enter in large groups, raise hell and make a mess.'

Ever seen UK "tourists" entering a bar in Spain? Go and see.

I am of an opinion that an owner of a private place has right not to allow some people in - pub isn't exactly public institution to my mind

on the side note:I have heard that quite recently that there is some special law in Poland that allows for child benefit for Roma families several times higher than the one a Polish ethnic can receive - haven't explored the issue though

Yet the bars in Kraków, Magaluf, Munich etc still market themselves heavily to that sort of person, so they can't be too upset, can they.

Legally it depends on a few factors, including whether or not there's a membership scheme. One thing business owners can't do is treat one group differently to another.

That's interesting - I wonder why?

I don't think it is a way to go - but I may be wrong - my gut feeling tells me everyone should be allowed to accept only the customers he wishes for

I have just read that the support is somehow funded by the EU -not sure about that however- anyway it is handed out directly by the state (not even through the local social services) - still it allows for Roma families living off the child benefit which does not stop them from teaching their children to steal or mug people for money

There's a lot to be said for that. In the UK they can in a restaurant, club or wine bar.

The rules about Public Houses are a little different. About ten years ago a young man with no money staggered into one gasping "water, water". The barman asked him to leave, he died (he had some sort of disabilty) and the manager was jailed. One of the conditions of a drinks licence is that they have to let people drink something. An extreme example, but shows that a place with a licence to sell the full range of drinks is considered to be a public facility.
good grief

Under these conditions I would be happy to contribute when they beg.
