Quite... very picky vultures....

"Asylum seeker family share main reason they 'hate' living in £250,000 new-build home."

The 'Daily Express'????

The reality is very different to that tabloid nonsense.

Could you turn off communism loving katarynka ,just for a day or two, to give all of the bloviators a rest; is that too much to ask?

So what is the real story?

Jon, the reality is always better than propaganda.

So what is the real story?

A great deal less than in that far right leaning tabloid.

BTW, although small town rednecks are convinced that brand new homes are given to new arrivals, the reality is that they are not, in part due to the risking inflaming tensions.

@Mafketis
Hard to know how a trashy tabloid in a country 1000 miles away relates in any way to Polish government policy, and even harder to know why someone intelligent would post a link to an downmarket extreme rightwing tabloid notorious for lying and fake news.

how a trashy tabloid in a country 1000 miles away relates in any way to..

Poland, as a country, is realtively new as a destination country. The policies (and mistakes) of other countries are very relevant so that Poland can avoid some of the worst mistakes made elsewhere....

downmarket extreme rightwing tabloid notorious for lying and fake news.

So what did it publish that was false?

jon357  77 | 25739

policies

The policies are part of EU policy, and anyone claiming asylum does so under the UN convention and its rules. They apply to Poland, and to your and my respective original countries.

false

Pretty well all; if it were as this trashy tabloid claims, it would be on the main TV news and in the front page of The Times.

Come on Maf, if I were posting about something in your country I'd avoid posting links to the National Enquirer etc out of dignity, reason and self-respect.

Looks like it was covered locally....

shropshirestar.com/news/asylum-seeker-family-moved-to-shropshire-village-say-they-are-desperate-to-leave-8772468

Thankfully, their royal highnesses have apparently now been given housing more to their liking....

shropshirestar.com/news/stoke-heath-asylum-seeker-family-8776811

The policies are part of EU policy,

The UK still belongs to the EU?

anyone claiming asylum does so under the UN convention and its rules

The thing with ridiculously outdated and unfit laws is that countries stop following them and that degrades the very idea of rule of law.

That's why I'm disgusted that countries are still paying lip service to laws that primarily benefit human traffickers....

locally

And again, to rile people up, despite your googling.

The UK still belongs to the EU?

Does it? Who knew?

However as you know we are talking about Poland whose policy is a matter for the Schengen zone as a whole.

The thing with ridiculously outdated and unfit laws

Is that they are still laws until they are changed. And even if they are changed, there will still be refugees and decent people will offer them assistance and shelter.

their royal highnesses

Looks like you're mixing things up. That or attempting low-level sarcasm.

If they really were Royal Highnesses (we have no shortage of those) they would be housed at KP or possibly Hampton Court rather than in downmarket rented accommodation.

mafketis  45 | 12315

there will still be refugees

Poland stepped up for Ukrainian refugees.

Almost none of those claiming the status now qualify.

jon357  77 | 25739
7 Jul 2026   #795
Almost none of those c

Not all did even at the start.

Especially as life in Ukraine goes on largely as normal except for people helping the war effort. Bars, restaurants, shops, all open. There are the god-awful missile attacks however people are stoic.

There are even foreigners tentatively house-hunting in Kyiv right now. It's a very nice place.

There will always be middle class chancers who will try to get the best of what is available. That shouldn't ever drownnout genuine need.

That's one reason it's so good that Shabana Mahmood is getting tough on migration even though the radical 'open borders' people are appalled. The other reason is that part of her controversial speech to parliament that offended them all, the section about pace and scale, was drawn with permission from a text written on a private party site by someone in Poland.

Except that all our main TV stations and The Times are left leaning, sorry Jon, your argument does not hold water.

That's one reason it's so good that Shabana Mahmood is getting tough on migration

For a Labour politician, she is, and many in her party are not happy about it.However, she is not being anywhere near tough enough.

main TV stations and The Times are left leaning

Cobblers.

The main TV stations are generally rightwing leaning in their political coverage (look at Kuenssberg and Bruce for God's sake) and The Times strongly supports the Tories and always has done. It belongs to Murdoch.

she is not being anywhere near tough enough.

She is being far tougher than the rightwing Conservative party ever were.

This is however irrelevant to Poland since their policies on this are a matter for the Schengen zone as a whole.

Did you read the story. A private company either purchased or rented property to store asylum seekers a loop hole now closed by the present government. The asylum seekers are complaining cos they were intimidated and don't have money beyond survival levels.

The most shocking thing about the article is the headline, real click bate stuff. The quality of journalism is at the level of

"They were laughing and she had no idea why...check out the pics...Number 7 is a shocker!!!

mafketis  45 | 12315

The asylum seekers are complaining

The guy only decided he needed asylum when his work visa was running out... apparently a common Pakistani tactic to prolong their stay outside of Pakistan

@mafketis
It mentioned that in the story. Rather than engage in a debate about asylum and law reform the paper went with a crass and misleading headline to appeal to a base not interested in nuance for a very good reason, its not in their owners interests.

The rightward drive that brought us globalisation also brought us migration. People follow money in order to survive and give a better start for their families. The policies that papers like the Express promoted resulted in people following capital. If they want to stop the movement of people they would need to change the policies they promote. Of course they dont do that, they continue with the orwellian doublethink supporting dictatorships in the name of democracy and the free world. They promote dehumanising stories for the subjects and their readers to justify their doublethink.

The guy who outstayed his work visa weighed up his options and made a rational decision. Not saying its right or wrong but wouldnt go down the civilisation clash narrative loved by retards.

jon357  77 | 25739

Not saying its right or wrong but wouldnt go down

Quite. He's hating on a family he knows zilch about on the basis of a tacky article in a tabloid.

He should know better.

If they want to stop the movement of people

They don't of course. Think of all the cheap labour that disempowers the working class, settling people
In communities that are already deprived and are meant to stay that way. Think of all the dosh to be made from landlordism (Serco plc taking a 100% + margin on people placed in hotels and hostels etc) and how whenever someone with poor mental heath in a foreign land commits a crime, they can get the tabloids to say "ooh look" and rile up the less intelligent so they vote for parties that let the rich get richer.

And it isn't as if that tabloid's proprietor lives in the U.K. Like the Mail's and the Sun's they live in tax havens.

Basically trash something, scream loudly and pretend that extremely vulnerable people did it instead of then.

They're so successful that even someone like Maf who's not lived in the UK gets conned into making online posts doing their work for them.

He should know better.

And yet..... I still don't understand how UK (or EU) migration policy is sustainable...

I'm reminded of an old joke:

Accountant: I've done the numbers on your businees, you lose money on every sale.... how do you expect to make a profit?

Businessman: VOLUME!

The only countries to actually conduct research on the issue found very similar results, non-western immigrants never contribute more to the economy than they take.

the cheap labour that disempowers the working class, settling people In communities that are already..

A very good reason to oppose UK/EU migration policy... the human trafficking industry and handing out work permits like candy ultimately end up strenghtening socio-economic stratification and create a huge indigenous underclass (priced out of the job market and also subject to the social dysfunction brought by too many of the arrivals)

A sad fact of the modern west is that the left has completely abandoned the working class...

And yet..... I still don't understand how UK (or EU) migration policy is sustainable...

Does anyone?

It won't stop though; over time it will only increase. So rather than kicking against the pricks, a more pragmatic approaching to figure how to do it as well as we can.

found very similar results, non-western immigrants never

The millionaires don't care about that (and can always find ways to 'make' money out of it).

Fortunately (at least in the UK) we've got Shabana etc.

the left has completely abandoned the working class..

It hasn't.

What do you mean by "the left"? Do you mean the soft left greenie stuff or the mainstream left who believe that workers must control the means of production?

Don't let the rightwing trick you; they spend a lot of time and money persuading people to vote against their own interests. People with brown skin are not your enemy; people who make a profit from your life very much are.

Another triumph of British migration policy!

Hard to know what you're trying to say here. This person is an elected politician in Scotland.

What's your problem with him? His skin colour?

Sad that you're posting links to a neo-Nazi social media page on a platform run by a neo-Nazi.

What's your problem with him? His skin colour?

For Chrissakes, play another card...

He was on a student visa and technically not allowed to work? But got elected as a non-citizen? Then put on a minstrel show about how poor he was growing up and then begged for money to pay his visa...

And then it turned out his family was not poor at all.... but he was actually a well-connected upper middle class guy shucking and jiving for gullible people in Scotland (or canny people who appreciate a good con)

It's kind of funny... he knows what buttons to push to turn the UK into a cash dispensery...

.

Show me the swastikas or portraits of Adolf or choose another buzzword... "neo nazi" has become a thought-terminating cliche.

Are Scotland's parliamentary rules a problem for you?

on a minstrel show

You can take the boy out of the South but evidently you can't take the South out of the boy.

He

A public figure in my region was jailed recently for financial crimes. Yet you haven't posted links to neo-nazi pages on twitter about it. Then again, she was white.

Why are you troubled by a slightly dodgy Scottish politician? One of the key figures in Scottish politics has just been locked up for 8 years for embezzling a huge amount of money and not a word of feigned outrage. This is just a slightly sleazy story about a minor politician that you found by trawling through neo-Nazi internet pages.

Sadly all too real and that twitter page you cited exists for one tawdry purpose only.
