half of the population in Poland could not read and hence massive programs after 1945..

In 1931 illiteracy in Poland amounted to 23.1%.

it broke because Poles were oppressing

It broke up because of the partitions. Every Polish school child knows that.

Merged: Komorowski office mismanagement and extravagance - audit

True to form, the office of Platformer ex-president Komorowski has been exposed for grossly mismanaging taxpayer money and official property. An audit has found that the Komorowski presidency had provided unjustifiably large fatcat salaries to its staff, and during the PO's last week in office lavish severence packets were handed out to loyal oldboys. In addiiton, three valuable paintings have gone missing and a secret govt telecoms system has gone missing. The audit is expected to find numerous other irregularities.

The audit is expected to find numerous other irregularities.

As did the audit carried out after team of The Dear Leader Chairman Kaczynski's brother. The difference is that PO were adult enough not start screaming about the fact that an audit had done what audits set out to do. But now we have PIS, a party that is fine with appointing men who see nothing wrong with raping children but which also acts like a bunch of children.

three valuable paintings have gone missing

Even the article you link to shows you're fibbing: "zgubione dwa obrazy".

I'm not a Polish school child, I know better. Why did the Partitions happen ?

The Commonwealth was facing many internal problems and was vulnerable to foreign influences. Chmielnicki's Uprising. Swedish invasion in 1655.
The war between the King and the nobles in 1715. The Silent Sejm. Liberum Veto. The Commonwealth was rotting inside.

Next question: Why was it rotting inside ? Why has the Chmielnicki's Uprising happened ? Why was Sweden - a much smaller country - able to invade ?

---------------------

PiS has appointed Stanisław Piotrowicz as a head of Sejm's Justice and Human Rights Commision. In 2001, he closed the trial of a priest from Tylawa, who was accused of child molesting. He explained the priest's behaviour as "fatherly tenderness", and practicing "energy medicine". Staying overnight was "an attraction", bathing children was necessary because they were dirty.

3 years later, the priest was sentenced for 2 years in prison for touching little girls, putting fingers inside them, etc.

Piotrowicz was a member of PZPR, too.

internal problems

The internal problems were used by aggressive neighbours as a pretext to carve up the Commonwealth. They actually feared that Polish demcoracy as exemplified by the 3rd May Constitution might spread and sow ferment in their absolutistically ruleld domains. Had the Constitution been given time to take effect, who knows.....?

Merged: PiS government restoring normality

Undautned by Brussels bullying and street rabble-rousers President Duda has signed into law amendments normalising public broadcasting and restoring age seven for school starters. Not only did PO not ifnroduce any meaningful reforms but the legislative duds they did pass now have to be rescinded.

restoring age seven for school starters

Cause who thinks getting an early start in education matters?!?

Age seven is pretty old to start schooling.

And unless the president stops breaking the law, I'm not inclined to respect anything he does.

Jews lived apart from Poles.

Just like Muslims today live apart from native Europeans. One more reason to limit non-Christian immigration to Europe.

How about parents decide themselves?

Most parents cannot be trusted, certainly can be said of my mother's home town. In most families there's at least one alcoholic, if child is really fortunate then two. You need a licence to drive, why not a licence for children? Of course it sounds daft and totally against the PC grain running through the world today, but often the biggest responsibility most people have in their lives. Of course the 500 program for vodka, sorry for children, will only make matters worse and encourage more offspring by those least able to cope/bring up these children.

Although all things may not be perfect in Poland, we all take care of the children.

My parents had little and they struggled to cope when i was young, and I benefited from child support and free milk and school dinners, when I grew up in the UK, why shouldn't Polish children have the same opportunity.

Don't worry I paid back in tax 100,000 fold what was invested in me by the government, Just give the kids a chance they are our future.

All 38+ million plus those abroad identifying as Poles?

Remember that Social Services are as busy dealing with neglected and abused children in Poland as they are anywhere else..

That and the extremely high incidence of children born with Foetal Alcohol Syndrome meaning that very large amounts of strong alcohol (not just a few beers or wines each day) were drunk during pregnancy.

We will get more Poles that way. It is still better then importing thirdworlders.

Dolnyslask, because your parents instilled values into your upbringing and I doubt your father was selling your mothers services for alcohol and drugs. When one of the kids die from they just have another. And of course the social worker claims no knowledge of the neglect but then privately tells her friends she was afraid to write it in her reports for fear of retaliation from the kids fathers. This is sadly a true example and while not every family is like this, there are a great deal of similar examples, it just all gets swept under the carpet because the fundamental flaw I find Poles have is that they generally abuse their position and look after their own personal interests first, rather than look at the bigger picture and thats why their is so much corruption on all levels of business and especially in local goverments offices.

Unfortunately, they don't. Poland has huge problems connected with children not being looked after properly - encouraging pathology to reproduce for extra vodka money is only going to end in tears, especially given that the social services system is rather weak compared to other countries.

Ask at your local social services office. If they aren't too busy dealing with all the problem families and abused kids.

Polisinvestor,Delph

I am in no doubt that your comments and concerns are valid, but only in the minority of Polish families, yes there is much for the government to do in terms of education and social services,

But the population is dwindling (due to poles migrating elsewhere to find employment), I cannot blame the government for providing incentives to guarantee the future population of Poland, alternatives like the Merkel plan are frightening.

So what brilliant solution to Poland's demographic crisis is know-all Delph proposing?

dolnyslask, its primarily the ZUS and so the governments fault for people looking elsewhere for work. 3 million Poles in the UK alone that felt they had no prospects in their native country. A self employed person has to pay more than 1000zl ZUS each month thats before he/she earns a penny. The approach of the Polish Government is that you must be taxed at the start since you are untrustworthy and unlikely to report your earnings. And the main reason so many people work on the black market is that ZUS is still high for employees. The minimum wage is a little under 2000zl brutto but the employee is just left with less than 1300zl.

btw dolnyslask, not far from Jelenia Gora and Karpacz is Kowary, about 80% unemployed and where officially more than a dozen children with daughter and father as parents in a population of maybe 5,000. Unofficially probably more such cases. Kowary isnt alone, there are many similar towns, you just wont have had the need to visit them.
dolnoslask
8 Jan 2016 #172
polishinvestor I completely agree with your last post, I will take your comment about Kowary onboard

I think that unless the tax/zus situation changes (regardless of who is in power) people will keep leaving, and people will be put off moving to or retiring in Poland.

i.e. put it under direct government control, just like PRL

restoring age seven for school starters

again, just like the PRL

So what brilliant solution to Poland's demographic crisis is know-all Delph proposing?

More creches, more kindergartens and cutting back maternity leave to 6 months. Maternity leave for 1 year sounds great, until you realise that many employers won't touch young women because of it (and as a result, young women can't have children as they can't find jobs) - so roll back the provisions to 6 months, make sure that creches are available for everyone and so on. Use EU funds towards encouraging employers to open up creches/kindergartens, and bring in a provision that the employer's ZUS contribution (around 20% of gross salary) is paid for during the period that a child is in a creche/nursery.

This would help much more than physical cash - there will be a huge crisis next year with nursery places in Poland because of 7 year olds going to school, and 500zł isn't going to buy you much in the way of private nursery in big cities.

Pretty simple solution, it's much cheaper than giving 500zł per child and it also means that the biggest barrier to having children - child care - is gone. It's how it works in Sweden and it works very well.

However, ideologically, PiS can't do it. They want women to stay at home.

stay at home

Husabnds should earn enough so women who wish to be mothers nad homemakers can afford to. The commies paid starvation wages forcing women to work whether they wnated to or not.

And what about women that don't want to?

It's 2016, Polonius. Most women have no desire to spend up to 17 years in education only to stay at home.

They'll learn to love it after PiS policies ensure that no sane employer will hire women...

only to stay at home

I can see you've been brainwashed by femi-fascist propaganda. A homemaker does NOT STAY AT HOME but works more than an 8-hour shift at one of the world's most demanding and respsonsible posts. Running a household and raising a tight-knit, loving family is a major challenge with which most career-obsessed males could not cope!

And there, we can see exactly why women are condemned to return to the 1900's in modern day Poland.
