Many of those "pensioners" then go on to work in the grey/black sector of the economy, thereby making zero contribution to the State budget as they pay no taxes or social security contributions while at the same time milking the budget for all its worth.

And many of them talk about being patriotic!

In the case of coal miners, many commute to the Czech Republic to continue working as miners but still claim full pensions in Poland (the coal mining regions are contiguous).

Oh yes. Common near the borders - I know places like Slubice have issues with this fake retirement.

They say that Tusk is also going to crack down on state teachers and their privileges.... :):):)

Well, you must admit, the Karta Nauczyciela does give some nice things ;)

But I would be massively in favour of reforming the system so that bad teachers can be sacked for incompetence. I know one particularly shocking example where a teacher is totally unable to control high school kids - she's bullied by them, they have no respect for her and yet they can't fire her.

Yes! :):):):)

Yes!!!

But the changes into Karta are not necessary. The lack of kids should remove hopeless teachers from schools. :):):):):):)

Are you talking about my school???? :):):):)

I think that's one thing that should remain. As well as the cheap rail tickets for doctors and civil servants. The arrangement that doctors have with the police though ought to be changed and fast.

Guys, did you notice that Antoni Maciarewicz has been hushed up by his boss for the last few weeks.......

No wonder PiS went up... for a while..... because that can`t keep Maciarewicz gagged all the time till 2015. He will erupt sooner or later..... :):):):)

I wonder if he won't be pushed quietly to the sidelines or into Solidarna Polska...

This seems logical. The PiS offensive (economic forum, Poland Awaken march, no-confidence vote) has replaced the Smolensk issue in the party's agenda. Macierewicz is closely associated with the Smolensk investigation and tends ot be on the radical side, so it was to be expecetd he wouldn't fit in with the current more businesslike and less firebrand iumage PiS is hoping to convey.

Aaa, Polo, I am really surprised, I didn`t expect you would admit it. Good!

So in other words, all the screaming about Smolensk can be abandoned for the sake of winning an election?

What a surprise.

But it is hinted that the matter will be resurrected after the victorious elections, of course. :):):)

I think that's one thing that should remain.

I sincerely hope so. I already spend over 10% of my uni pay getting there by bus, and that's with a 47% discount.

The arrangement that doctors have with the police though ought to be changed and fast.

What's that, jon?

For minor offences (like drinking beer in a public place, jaywalking etc) they don't arrest them - they just inform the director of their hospital department. I'm not sure how widely known this is - I only found out because two friends and I were pulled for one of the above things between Gdansk and Sopot a few years ago just after the ducks' regime had banned one of those things. The police didn't even give us a ticket because one of us was a doctor so they just asked for his bosses details as per procedure (and did nothing) another was a tax inspector (who they tend to go easy on) and the third was a foreign citizen which involves too much paperwork.

Incidentally both of those guys get discounts on PKP - I think they have to pay a flat fee to get the discount card though.

The system probably needs changing though.

Hmmm
So my question is do you think the police extrapolate the courtesy when looking at more serious offences say DUI?

I wouldn't think so - it's probably just the type of offence that they give fixed penalty ticket for.

Another poll
PiS - 40%
PO - 35%

Another poll

And still bad news. Anything less than 45% is not going to return them to Government .

Delph, thank you for your words of optimism and hope. :):):):)

You will never give up even when everybody else has fallen. But I will be always by your side, with Sobieski and aphrodisiac loading the rifles and making sandwiches.

Interestingly, the opinion polls at the minute are all over the place. I don't think any of them are particularly reliable.

All politics is about winning elections and staying at the trough as long as possible. People rarely have an ideal candidate to vote for adn only a fraction of campaign promises ever come true. Romney is hardly ideal but there is no other choice for those who fear an anti-Christian crypto-socialist. Same in Poland. PiS is not ideal until one thinks of the Amber Gold alternative -- PO. Of course, things could be even worse if the alternative were SLD or Palikot! Then one might actually have to vote for PO, if PiS were not in the running.

^ I seem to remember somebody saying something along the lines of aliens needing to keep their noses out of the politics of the nation that isn't theirs. Can somebody remind me who that poster was and what his nationality is?

But we already settled that PiS` economic program is purely socialist. If they got power and fulfilled what they are promising now, Poland would be ruined within 2, 3 years, like Greece.

Fortunately

adn only a fraction of campaign promises ever come true.

Good for Poland! :):):)

What the silent majority of Poles think in despair, but do not aticulate, quite well captured in Palikot's parliamentary performance:
"Wasze miejsce jest w więzieniu" / "Your place is in Poland's prison"

So, now you are Speaker for the silent majority? You are a truly an example of a twit! :D

in Palikot's parliamentary performace:
"Wasze miejsce jest w więzieniu"

,His place is in jail indeed.Performance peg him right. The next time he will be Speaker for the dead.

If they got power and fulfilled what they are promising now, Poland would be ruined within 2, 3 years

Because right now Poland is blossoming.... not! You are case of a brain drainage.

My view is far more representative of Polish opinion that yours, and you know that:D

Din't you enjoy the collective grin of PIS MP's dieaspear from their faces and instead reaplced by some hard swallowing, it must have been very upsecting for them to find out that they must be held to account for what they say? They will find out that naked opportunism and lying comes at a price.

Or maybe you think that former PIS sip doctor Kaminiski is wrong when he says that hardly anyone in PIS beleives in the Smolensk Murder, they just parrot what their leader says because they are afraid of losing their jobs? Just admit that that great Pole, Brzezinsky is right, and so is that other great Pole Bartoszewski, when they say that Kaczynski is mentally ill. I've always wandered how could soembdoy like Hitler raise to power, and forge his career on the Versailles Treaty, and now I have a demostration with Kaczynski and Smolensk - a mental case surrounded by cowards, that's how WWII started

And back to my orginal observation about PIS and Targowica, I am glad that somebody as eminent as Mr Brzezinsky shares my views about PIS being the useful idots of Moscow.

Of course - Kaczynski runs PiS with an iron grip. His behaviour towards any sort of dissent (why has Macierewicz been silenced recently? What about Tomaszewski?) is certainly worthy of the 4th Republic!

It is sad but true. PiS led by Kaczyński are able/ready to set fire to Poland and destroy it in order to get power.
