They are bargaining chips and that's about it.

The second part of that quote isn't mine

Apologies - was trying to be clever - will remove it..............

They are bargaining chips and that's about it.

Pretty big bargaining chips in the wrong hands. The British and American plan to deal with the Russian if they advanced into Western Germany during the cold war would have shown exactly how big the chips would have been.

Well, the stakes are high. However, Iran having them would really shake things up.

no, of course Poland doesn't need nukes - The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation states that "it will come to the assistance of...with all means necessary, including the use of nuclear weapons........."

Simple enough for anybody - especially the Russkis.[/quote]

The point would remain that no matter what me or you, or even presidents of this world could try, the power of the a bomb rules, it wont be long in my opinion till another country uses them in aggression.

I agree and that's why Obama+Medvedev has been making gestures to get rid of them. Well, downscale them rather. Israel having them could be the biggest danger.

No more so than Iran having them.

Israel having them could be the biggest danger.

Letting Israel have that type of weapon was a mistake from the beginning, it only has armed surrounding countries with more suspicion and reason not to have an Israel.

Well...since they have nukes the neighbours don't think about invading it again...so for them it was a good bargain.

If they did invade, would Israel use the nuclear arsenal? It's improbable since they would create a bio disaster if they did. Do nukes really keep people safe? Or, is that a fallacy?

Now Russia is going to help Venezuela nuke up.
Just what we need, another nutjob with a bomb...

It hasn't stopped the neighbours from attacking without care. Israel would never use its so called arsenal, if it did it would loose face with the world.

Just wait until they have antimatter bombs...

The fact is the whole of central Europe was on course to be destroyed completely by the Americans and British, its the main reason the USSR never advanced, what would be the point if you had nothing left for it.

Pretty big bargaining chips in the wrong hands.

That's true, the idea was to (tactical) nuke the Fulda gap should any armor move across the border.

no, of course Poland doesn't need nukes.

You mind quoting the British-Polish alliance text, or more importantly, the French-Polish alliance text?

Now Russia is going to help Venezuela nuke up.
Just what we need, another nutjob with a bomb...

Like Pakistan? I think I'd rather Venezuela have the bomb than anyone in Pakistan...

Germany destroyed more of it.

They might have done. But not on a scale that nukes would have. From the stories my father told me there would have been over 90 nukes planted along the border and into western Europe. That truely would have destroyed Europe as we knew it today. To think that we had world leaders considering this...?

That's true, the idea was to (tactical) nuke the Fulda gap should any armor move across the border.

It went a little further, to the point they actually tested nukes with chickens inside. The thought was that since the winter was too cold to keep the electronics working properly on a timed scale, having a live chicken buried underground with the nuke with enough food to last it, say a week or two, meant that once the chicken died of starvation, the temperature gauge on the nuke would lower and set it off! strange but true!

It is why we didn't need to fight the Russians. It would have been a disaster and the war was already bad enough.

In the late 70s early 80s they had lance missiles with tactical nuclear warheads guarding the gap 24/7.

Indeed, I was born in Hanover in 1984 with my father as the command of the RTR used to tell me the most interesting stories when he was drunk lol! Maggie spent her war councils having a few sips of the good stuff, especially when her hubby was there, which was almost always :D

Neat, I was 3 weeks off of being born in Frankfurt in '82. My father was FA, stationed there twice with Lance and twice with MLRS. Lots of interesting stories indeed...

Well, since Pakis and Ruskies have them and Iran will soon too, it only makes sense.

Yep but then again, it would be so much better if no one had them at all.

No more so than Iran having them.

Thanks to Obama Iran now has 19,000 centrifuges spinning to enrich military grade uranium.
Thanks to Hilary Clinton giving Russia the uranium deal to buy the uranium so they could sell it to Iran.
Thanks to Obama for lifting the sanctions giving Iran 500 billion dollars that had been frozen.
Now Iran has enough money to buy all the weapons they need plus uranium from Russia.
Poland being a NATO member and Iran is chanting destroy Israel and America.
Poland should want all the nukes available to them at this point as they must know what is coming.

I suspect Poland could get them as part of the Nato Nuclear Sharing.

NATO has nukes. Poland is a full member of NATO. Therefore Poland has nukes.

Just not on their territory. I have never heard anyone here in Poland suggest there should be.
