Poland's election winning party: PIS proclamations

Nice bit of doublespeak, Polonius. You mean that those regulations will achieve two possible outcomes :

a) Employers will simply employ less people (as the cost of hiring people goes up) and expect more from existing employees
b) Employees will be forced to shoulder the burden, ensuring a higher tax burden

Either way is going to result in employees losing out.

So you're a big backer of śmieciówki. Do you believe the employer should provide women emplyoed as supermarket cashiers with free Pampers (which they can use on the job because they lack loo privileges) or should they pay for them out of their own money?

Here's an unpleasant economic truth that no one has thought to tell you: the more restrictions you put on employment, the less employment there will be.

Now.... plan accordingly. How many people do you want with no hope of employment per person with secure employment?

The opposite.

However, I'm also realistic. Any attempt to change the current situation is going to either cause bigger unemployment or a bigger tax burden on employees. For instance, I have a friend that does a considerable amount of outsourcing to Poles willing to create creative works in their spare time. They pay 9.5% tax at the minute and nothing else. Let's say PiS force them to pay the same as if they were on umowa o prace. That means an PIT increase of 9.5% and a social insurance increase of roughly 35-40% (I've forgotten the amount). The amount of money available to pay the employee with won't change (let's say 10,000zł for a typical big project) - so instead of the employee getting 10,000zł-9.5%, they'll now get 10,000zł-55-60%.

Ouch.

It's not so straightforward Polonius, hence why successive governments haven't really dealt with it.

More likely your friend will just contract Czech, Slovak, German or British companies and the Polish workers will get about the same amount as before but the Polish taxman will get sod all. But I suppose that's one of the problems with letting the PISed-up fanatics play at government.

Interestingly, I read a good analysis of the PiS budget today, and it seems that while they're relying on the LTE spectrum sale to prop up the budget this year, 2017 and 2018 appear to have a huge hole that simply won't go away. They're also relying on VAT providing them with an extra 7-8 billion this year, despite most non-PiS experts pointing out that the scale of VAT evasion is unlikely to provide anything near that much extra cash - especially as anyone involved in VAT fraud will simply take their 'business' elsewhere.

Got a link to that article? Does it mention the legal problems with the LTE spectrum sale which are almost certain to result in court challenges at both the Polish and international level (which Poland will lose)? My understanding is that one company is already talking about a PLN 2 billion lawsuit (and it's easy to see why), but I've yet to see any statement from PIS about that problem. Does the also mention that the outcome of the LTE spectrum sale is terrible for Polish consumers as the telecos have massively overpaid, offering prices per megahertz per person very close to those paid in France and Germany despite mobile phone revenue in Poland being much lower, meaning that the companies which bought LTE will need to keep prices very high. I've been hoping to read something from PIS about this but instead they've been focused on breaking the law.

Who are you trying to fool? You have been against PiS government form the day one, even before they won election. Since then you are constantly gnawing and spiting and foaming like mad cows. Election or democracy means nothing to you.

Every new move of the government is only an excuse for you to launch a new wave of a spiteful vile crap regardless whether or not that move make sense or not. Any excuse to bash PiS is good in your eyes.

As foreigners you have no clue what is good or bad for Poland.

The previous government badly screwed up the sale process, changed the rules halfway through (which is illegal and unconstitutional), admitted a bidder that's very very closely connected with another bidder (despite that being against the rules), and went for an auction when a tender would be a far better option. The end result is that one man is very well positioned (as his main company didn't bother with the LTE spectrum while a company that's very very closely linked to him did win an LTE spectrum, so he's covered either way) while the consumer is going to get bent over in terms of price because of the fees the telecos have agreed to pay.

PIS could make some serious political capital here, pointing out the mistakes of the previous government and protecting the interests of consumers. But instead they are happy to take the proceeds from this stealth tax; god only knows what they'll waste the money on.

Cheers, I wasn't really following the LTE process, but from the sounds of things, it will be an identical situation to the early 2000's 3G spectrum sale in the UK when companies massively overpaid and then had no cash to actually do anything with it for years.

Meaning that mobile phone users get screwed for the best part of a decade so PIS has the money to pay for a single year for a campaign promise that it cannot fund the next year, that sounds like PISed-up economics!

One can only give what one has!

I thought this was worth posting. In short, PiS made the following promises for the first 100 days of government.

1) 500zł per child - no
2) Lowering retirement age - no
3) Raising the tax-free base to 8000zł - no
4) Free medicine for over 75 year olds - no
5) Minimum wage raised to 12zł/hour - no

As we can see, the PiS "Good Change" actually turns out to have been an entirely unsurprising pack of lies.

Hello...I am interested to know details on what the PIS party are planning or have already implemented concerning job creation, planned improvements to the health service, planned improvements to the general economic picture in Poland, transport improvements etc. It would also be interesting to know what the inflation rate is like and whether more houses are needed and a general overview. If anyone knows what the PIS manifesto is and where I can find it I would be grateful. I am just interested to see what the government are planning to do with their plans on improving the economy, infrastructure, health service and how things are progressing. Thank you.

Here is a partial list of what has been accomplisehd and is being planned:
1) The Family 500+ program providing a 500 zł ($129) monthly child allowance to age 18 to counteract the country's depopulation and encourage procreation;
2) Lowering retirement age to 60 for women and 65 for men which the previous government had raised to 67;
3) Raising the tax-free base to 8000 zł (about $2,050) a year
4) Providing free medicine for over those 75 and over;
5) Increasing the minimum wage to 12 zł/($3.07) an hour;
6) A special retail tax on large, mainly foreign-owned supermarkets and discount chains to give smaller Polish-family-owned businesses a fighting chance;
7) A plan to re-Polonize (buy back) former Polish banks often hastily sold to foreign financial institutions;
8) The Morawiecki Plan to create Poland's own indigenous entrepreneurial class and industrial base;
9) Tough anti-terrorist and law-enforcement legislation which may have contributed to NATO's trouble-free Warsaw Summit and safe World Youth Days with Pope Francis;
10) A drop in unemployment to 8.6%, the country's lowest level since the compilation of such data started in 1992.
11) Reduction of poverty and redistribution of wealth, largely attributable, according to the World Bank, to the Family 500+ program;
12) Plans have been annoiucned to reform the judiciary so judges cannot palce themselves above the law.
13) More emphasis on Polish history and culture in the public media and school curricula and state subsidies for cultural projects promoting Poland's cultural heritage.


First of all it's PiS, not PIS, unless your keyboard lacks a lower-case letter "i"!
Hardly a day goes by that some new good change is not annoucned. That dauntless crusader for human justice, Zbigniew Ziobro, recently announced plands to reform the judiciary. They have become a state within a state and regard themselves as being above the law. One of the resentful judges at Rzepliński's hate session last week arrogantly declared: "I am a judge and cannot be prosecuted!"

But before the entire judiciary can be proeprly overhauled, the Constitutional Tribunal dispute must first be resolved, Ziobro added. And more power to him!
