" slip back into the fantasy" No Polonius is not slipping into any kind of fantasy, he is just a Polish patriot who defends Polish democracy and the elected government of the day "PIS".

Pol understands our history and is very knowledgeable academic when it comes Poland and all things Polish, read his posts and take a look at how much he helps those with questions about Poland its language, history (Could you do the same?).

You would do well to learn from him, maybe you would make a good citizen and have Polish friends one day.

So why is he supporting the illegal actions of the Polish President? Why isn't he protesting about the way that the rule of the Party is breaking the rule of law here?

And how many patriots do you know who refused to be citizens of the country they claim to patriotic about?!

Pol understands our history and is very knowledgeable academic when it comes Poland and all things Polish

Things like his claims about the treaty of Versailles mistakenly awarding Polish territory to Czechoslovakia, certain bits of Warsaw making it through WWII undamaged and the Polish police using attack dogs, to say nothing of Polish babies being forcibly micro-chipped, spring to mind when reading that statement.

Harish I have not joined this topic to pick away at pol3's past posts I am interested in catching up with Polish politics of today and I am fascinated how they are seen by immigrants to Poland, Are Polish politics alien to foreign posters here, would they be happier having the political parties that they were used to back home, How does PIS differ to lets say the conservative party in the UK or the Republicans in the US.

How does PIS differ to lets say the conservative party in the UK or the Republicans in the US.

Well, for a start those two parties tend to not completely ignore the specific and direct instructions of the constitution; PIS, unfortunately, does.

Sorry Harry I just noticed that I referred to you as Harish I meant no offence, a good friend of mine in the UK was nicknamed Harry but he was Harish.

In the same way I did not join in the poll tax demonstrations within the UK, But I would be happy to pay more tax

Are you the same dolnoslask that I had nice chats with about the countryside?
All I can say is, the countryside must be blinding your thinking:) I most certainly did join the poll tax demonstrations, and many hundreds of thousands never paid a penny of that illegal tax.

The same applies here. Fight, and we WILL win. And "We" is not that illegal mob in the Sejm.

"Are you the same dolnoslask that I had nice chats with about the countryside? " Yep same one,

It's ok dougpo we can can have differing political beliefs and still talk countryside and have a drink together, next election there maybe a government in that you are happy with, and I would respect that, In a democracy we all have a vote, there is no reason for us to be hostile to one another just because of politics, we are all the same on the human level.

No - I would vote for Labour every time "back home." The UK is rich enough for some important "social charter" to remain in place as a safeguard for their 20 per cent underpriveliged.

PIS want to take away endeavour and to bring back big government, so I would never support the left-wing here.

there is no reason for us to be hostile to one another just because of politics

Lesson learnt. I keep getting over boisterous :)

"big government" I thought this was a common trait of liberalism. Maybe PIS are more liberal than true conservatives who believe that less government involvement in business the better? what do you think?

So why is he supporting the illegal actions of the Polish President?

The President has done nothing illegal so there is nothing to protest. Obviously, President Duda shares the British view of the sovereignty of the parliament. You should be glad to see British principles being followed in a former communist state.

PiS are on the left on a few issues, hence in part the pro-democracy movement

The President has done nothing illegal so there is nothing to protest.

Incorrect. He has explicitly signed the latest TK law despite the fact that it contains clearly unconstitutional articles.

Furthermore, he's a liar.

Oh, and of course, we mustn't forget that Duda is ignoring published decisions by the TK. He is duty bound to follow their decisions, and he has failed to do so. For all your American claims of him having a "pocket veto", no such concept exists in Polish law.

Still, Duda will no doubt enjoy himself in prison as being the first European ex-President to go to prison for a very long time.

How does PIS differ to lets say the Republicans in the US.

There are similarities and differences. Long story short, the US Republicans are a pro-big business party who favour tradition, the family, Chrisitianity (including creationism - literal interpretation of the Bible), patriotism, an "America first" approach, gun rights and, economic liberalism (weak welfare/nanny state). They oppose the leftist/libertine agenda and regard global warming as concocted leftist propaganda.

So, as you can see, PiS share some but not all of their principles.

Duda has respected Parliamentary sovereignty.

Why aren't the Brits here pleased that Poland is imitating a British political concept?

Duda has respected Parliamentary sovereignty.

There's no such concept in Polish law, so I'm not sure why you're bringing it up.

Pol3 so PIS are heading in the right direction, It would be good for Poland, but sadly the European Parliament will do everything in their power to stop them. the EU spend millions of Euro's to spread their propaganda to the youth of Europe.

Worth pointing out that they've now admitted that there's not enough money to fund the 500zł per child promise and that there will have to be limits/regulations/etc - in other words, another electoral promise broken. Likewise with the increased tax-free base - the Ministry of Finance has made it clear that there simply isn't the money available to enact that promise.

Anyway, it turns out today that Ziobro is now using his power to yet again settle personal vendettas.

go to prison for a very long time

It seems even more likely that certain subversive expats engaged in anti-government activity will end up in prison first or at best get deported to where they came from.

You seem obsessed with the idea of people opposing the government being deported or sent to prison. Why is that?

Remember Polonius, EU citizens can't be deported except in very very limited circumstances. Opposing the government isn't one of them.

You seem obsessed with the idea

You seem obsessed with the idea of imprisoning Poland's democratically elected president. Why is that? Because he finally rectified the imbalance of the PO monopoly of 14 PO-appointed juges and only one recommended by PiS. If that is the Platformerian version of fairness, balance and impartiality, then it's better it finally got overturned!

Amusingly, despite the claims posted earlier in this thread by PiS supporters that claimed that Gazeta Wyborcza reported 200,000 people.

m.niezalezna.pl/74391-przepraszamy-gazetapl

We apologize for the publication of incorrect information about the portal Gazeta.pl.We alleged that Gazeta.pl said that the demonstration "Obywatele dla demokracji" on 12 December 2015 was attended by 200 thousand, depicted by a false screen from the alleged homepage of Gazeta.pl. This information we drew from a false and manipulated source on the Internet.

PiS media caught lying again!

because the Brits think of Poland as of subjugated vassal state, not as of free partner

Ah, so the Constitutional Tribunal is the EU's Vice-Roy in Poland! Therefore they will not protest it.

They aren't protesting in front of the U.K. embassy for a Constitutional Tribunal back home.

Remarkable how you manage to reproduce Soviet propaganda so accurately. With your other Marxist views its difficult not to believe that you are a committed Communist.

So:

Back to business.

What's happening with KOD Delph? When are they getting back to business? Office hours next Monday?

They aren't protesting in front of the U.K. embassy for a Constitutional Tribunal back home.

Why would we want to protest in front of the British embassy when we have a Constitutional Tribunal at home? We're protesting against the illegal attempts of the 18% regime to do away with the Constitutional Tribunal we have in our country.

What's happening with KOD Delph?

Latest news is this initiative - komitetobronydemokracji.pl/obywatelski-projekt-ustawy-o-zmianie-ustawy-o-trybunale-konstytucyjnym/ - basically, a citizen's initiative to change the law.

It's all quiet because of Christmas, but because of the PiS actions (changing the result of votes that they don't like, PRL-style) recently, I expect demonstrations as soon as this holiday nonsense has finished.

January will be very, very loud, I think.
