Demolish Poland's Palace of Culture?

The consummate hypocrite and foremost pharisee has spoken! One of PF's most virulent Cristophobes, who defines all religion as a collection of fairy tales, suddenly finds it convenient to defend 'places of worship'. The Warsaw Orhtodox Church was a monumental, oppulent landmark built to emphasise Muscovite-Orthodox control of occupied Poland. Just like the Warsaw Citadel was built in the 1820s as a symbol of Russian domination.

It's the same issue - trying to blot out the past by destroying a building. It doesn't really work.

The destruction of all religion is the hidden priority of the PC's atheistic/agnostic agenda. When it is expedient, the PC crowd will shed crocodile tears and pretend to be defending one denomination against another, but int view of their ultimate anti-religious agenda the purpose is only the stir up dissention between churhces in the hope that will speed up their demise.

Since when has democratic will mattered to the types who actively want to destroy the III Republic in Poland?

Spectacular.

Expensive to go up now, so it's better to go to the Panorama Bar at the top of the Marriott during happy hour. There's a not very good cafe at the top of PKiN, nice architecture, overpriced nescafe.

I was once alarmed that when you put a shilling in the telescop and look in the direction of my old flat, you could get such a good view of my living room that it's possible to read the headlinines of the newspaper on the coffee table.

Palace looks very cool and I don't know what your problem is

and skyscrapers in CITY CENTER have nothing to do with palace of culture

There are a few other viewpoints as well, and well worth it. One is on top of the University Library, in the far end there is a small viewing platform, and you have the wonderful roof garden included.

Another one is the viewing platform on top of Kościół Św. Anny, where you have wonderful views of Warsaw Old Town and Krakowskie Przedmieście. Costs I think 2 PLN, still a lot of stairs though:)

I think the viewing platform on PKIN is hugely overpriced.

Let's bet. How long will it still show communist Russian domination over Warsaw? I say less than 5.

Curious statement. When I voted last time here in Warsaw, Poland I didn't see any Russians nor communists on the list.

Leave it alone! It's history. All the ugly communist style housing blocks can go though.

The apartments are fetching high prices, especially the Stalin era ones. People like them.

Surely not the high-rise ones from Gierek's time. These are monstrosities.
And the "Eastern Wall" in Warsaw neither is very nice, to say the least.

Think of the early 50s ones round pl. Konstitucji and up Andersa. Nice, and not cheap.

I hope it will be left alone. I think it looks great and unique.

I like the idea of doing something with Plac Defiliad. For now it's just an empty waste of space in the middle of the city. Put up a few skyscrapers in there and the skyline will start to look pretty impressive.

It was useful during Euro 2012 and lends itself well to big events. Nice to have public space in the middle of the city rather than just more offices.

What's wrong with the area? Every time I've been in Warsaw, it always strikes me how nice it is to have such an open space in the heart of the city.

It's great, a leafy park onthe north side, lawns on the south and in front of the palace there's quite a bit of space that they use well.

I'm thinking of the area between Marszalkowska and the Palace, the Northside park could stay as well as the walkway and park on the Southside, It's the Eastside, or the Plac which I can't understand. It's a parking lot? A bus parking? An ugly sea of concrete and cobblestone? Really it seems to serve no purpose other than to increase the distance between the sidewalk and the East entrance. The few times year they put a stage up there or throw in some crappy beer gardens hardly justifies it. I

Building in front of the main entrance would spoil the vista.

There used to be a market hall and a markpol there - both unfortunately gone. they didn't look anything special but did bring footfall.

They should expand the summer beer gardens and hold more events there. When Metro Swietokrzyska becomes the main interchange station and Metro Centrum declines in importance, we might see a bit more happening there - I think there are plans to use it a little more.

Who? Young yuppies who didn't live through communist times and wanna get in touch with some history? lol. The ppl are paying for location Warsaw and especially downtown...

I agree totally but perhaps those monstrosities will just have to stay due to the fact that Poland is so poor. Prosperous countries are knocking them down. I think the fixation with knocking the palace down is because its possible while the real issue is not.
