Poland blocks any action on climate change

Meanwhile, other countries like the USA have high emission standards

...because the US does not make anything consumers want. Go to Walmart and find just one item made in the USA.

They don't have any regard for the environment, just greed and profit

...just like the US, the country that sent its manufacturing and the pollution to China. A brilliant way to make a buck and to point fingers at China at the same time.

You want China to stop polluting? Stop buy Chinese gadgets and make them here.

@Joker

No thats why its pointless to tax the crap out of americans and europeans and be asked to change our lifestyle when any reduction in pollution and co2 will be offset by china, russia, africa, etc. They dont care one bit about pollution.

I try and not to buy anything from these lying cheating thieves already. Im glad Trump has put on tariffs and hope the chinks never make a deal as well:) Phuck em! We don't need them!

No thats why its pointless to tax the crap out of americans

Thats why AOC is a total idiot and anyone that supports the New Green Deal is just as stupid as she is.

I rather pay a few dollars more for American or European quality instead of some cheap plastic junk from China. Any tool that you buy from China risks breaking off in your hand, perhaps causing injury. Not worth saving a few $$$. Remember when they sent us poison Dog Food, Drywall/Sheetrock laced with formaldehyde? Not to mention all the fentanyl they produce and illegally ship to try and destroy the country from within.

China is the planets enemy! (cough cough)

Its doesn't make a bit of difference with these rogue countries that don't care at all.

It certainly makes a difference. The USA is the second largest polluter on the planet. If we would get our act together environmentally, the planet would benefit big time. Someone has to start with the cleanup, or we are all screwed.

the country that sent its manufacturing and the pollution to China

Very true.

They dont care one bit about pollution.

So we don't care either? Out of spite? Cleaning up the environment benefits Americans right here at home.

If we would get our act together environmentally,

...by doing the following:

1.
2.
3.

Just fill in the blanks.

1. Banning billions of tons of toxic chemical fertilizer used on lawns and golf courses that drain off into streams and lakes.
2. Banning billions of tons of pesticides that kill birds. (If they can kill a bird they can kill you)
3. Your turn

My post was prompted by that "we" in 424 by TheOther.
Chemicals in water is a separate issue and about 1000 times more important than the "global warming" because they, the chemicals, kill very quickly - not maybe 1000 years later.
TheOther 6 | 3,674

Just fill in the blanks.

1. Tighten environmental laws instead of undermining them for profit
2. Close down coal fired power plants
3. Reduce the usage of plastic packaging material as much as possible
...
plus a multitude of other necessary actions. JR mentioned two in his post above.

1000 times more important than the "global warming"

Global warming is just one factor of many that endanger the planet.

Today Macron said to young protesters to go to protest in Poland coz he has been unable to persuade the Polish government to support improvements. He added that the new pro-climate laws are blocked by one country - Poland.

1. Tighten environmental laws instead of undermining them for profit

What environmental laws in the US are not tight enough?

2. Close down coal fired power plants

Do you have your own generator? What model and where did you buy it?

3. Reduce the usage of plastic packaging material as much as possible

Agreed. I would add the lead in the car batteries.

Global warming is just one factor of many that endanger the planet.

How much would you be willing to pay in taxes or expenses to reduce the global temp by half a degree C in 100 years? This calls for a number. No essays.

Rich, it's not just about taxes now, they want us to stop driving petrol and diesel cars, stop flying, stop fishing, stop production of all dairy products and stop eating meat!

From my perspective, life would no longer be worth living.

Rich, it's not just about taxes now, they want us to stop driving petrol and diesel cars,

I know. I asked this question as a test and made it deliberately simple: if money could fix the global warming problem, how much would you be willing to spend?

My intention, of course, was to expose the global warming virtue signalling bull*shitters that talk big about the end of life unless "we do something" but would spend anything to fix it because they know it's Gore-class scam. So, naturally, that gives me the right to ask such a question.

The answer to my own question is: not even a dime. I don't give a sh*it if the earth temp is up a degree C in 100 years. I want my 8 banger Lexus (actually two) now and my AC thermostat at 74 when it's hot. If human life ends ten seconds earlier because of my actions rather than in 10,000 years, tough.

As Dirk posted, people will adapt. Or die. Darwin at work.

What environmental laws in the US are not tight enough?

Let's start with undoing the rollback of regulations by the EPA under Scott Pruitt.

How much would you be willing to pay in taxes or expenses to reduce the global temp ... This calls for a number.

Why taxes? Why a number? That's far too simplistic. It starts with your personal behavior. Reduce consumption, switch off lights after leaving a room, don't waste water. The list is endless.

I don't give a sh*it

Have you told your grandkids already?
Rich Mazur 4 | 3,053

That's far too simplistic. It starts with your personal behavior.

That was way back. Today, personal behavior is out. Government's iron fist is what the Dems want.

Reduce consumption, switch off lights after leaving a room, don't waste water.

I am already doing your list, but not because of the global warming zealots.

Have you told your grandkids already?

I don't give a sh*it if the earth temp is up a degree C in 100 years.

No, because they don't give a crap about one degree up in 100 years, either. In fact, they like going to Florida for 50 degrees F up in three hours.

Like I said, liberals' favorite scientist, Darwin, will take care of it the surplus people just as Roe v Wade took care of the unwanted ones.

While we are on the subject of global warming, they should have a special consolation prize for the kid who is the world's dumbest and the ugliest at the same time.

From cnbc.com:
cnbc.com/2019/09/24/how-greta-thunbergs-rise-could-backfire-on-environmentalists.html

and the headline:

How 16-year-old Greta Thunberg's rise could backfire on environmentalists

It's painful to see that picture.

As Dirk posted, people will adapt. Or die. Darwin at work

Exactly.
It is all just PC gone beserk.
Stop eating meat.
Stop eating fish.
Stop eating all dairy products.
Stop flying.
Stop driving cars.
Stop using so much electicity.... that doesn't sound too good when they want us to switch to electric cars......
It's all insane and won't happen.
Because life just won't be worth living.

Here is a summary only a genius like me can come up with.
Life on Earth will end. No doubt about it. The question is: do we who live now owe anything to those who will be born 10,000 years from now? If so, what?

My answer is: We owe them nothing.

That is why the global warming useful idiots always predict something oh so awful soon enough to scare the fu*ck out of the gullible masses so that they, pushed at home by their even dumber kids, will vote their own demise TODAY and peacefully hand over the kind of power to the ruling classes that only bloody revolutions managed in the past.

That's the real reason for that faked up urgency where none exists.

Global warming religion has become child abuse. From nationalreview.com:

Instead, they feed the kids a diet of apocalyptic warnings that children repeat back as if they were urgent insights. One speaker at the youth climate rally in Washington, D.C., last week said that we have just 18 months - yes, only until the beginning of 2021 - to forestall irreversible environmental harms.

The case of adult morons using teenage morons as propaganda tools - something we are not allowed to criticize because that would be mean.

adult morons

Of kids and global warming continued...
From dailymail.com:

Greta Thunberg condemns her 'haters' after they 'go after me for my looks, behavior and differences', and says her critics 'must feel threatened' by her

No, dear, we don't feel threatened. We feel sorry for you. You see, ugly people would rather hide. You chose to be in our cringing faces. To make things even worse, you are stupid or pretending to be one. That's two strikes. Not a good combination to succeed.
Lenka 5 | 3,477
26 Sep 2019 #440
And her looks are important why? It's kind of pathetic that the first thing an old guy like you has to say about it is to judge a teenage girl prettiness
TheOther 6 | 3,674
26 Sep 2019 #441
We feel sorry for you.

How can you say that? Be happy that our kids are still idealistic enough to believe that they will be able to change something for the better. That's what young people have always done. To attack a kid for having dreams and fears like some politicians and pundits have done with Greta Thunberg is simply disgusting behavior.
Rich Mazur 4 | 3,053
26 Sep 2019 #442
No, it's not. She was and still is a tool. The last thing we want is to make life-altering decisions based on one kid's dreams and fears.

Do you remember that stupid woman telling the world in her speech to the UN how the terrible Iraqi soldiers were throwing Kuwaiti babies out of incubators? She lied. Never happened. As we call it today, it was fake news. But it sure brought many adult naive suckers to tears.

The problem was that that tool helped the US get into the Gulf 1 with all the expense, deaths, wounds, and destruction.
So, no, I am not impressed with the "idealistic kids" that spew crap fed to them by their adult minders and manipulators.

The fact that the global warming kid is extraordinarily ugly makes the whole show even more repulsive and her a lot less credible as a person having nothing else going for her.

She had to find her cause, which just happens to be so complex that a battalion of climate PH.D's and a brigade of MBA's can't easily decide what to do about other than "something". So, let's consult a kid who should be in her bedroom gossipping about boys on Facebook.

Next year, it will be frogs in Africa.
TheOther 6 | 3,674

who should be in her bedroom gossipping about boys on Facebook.

That girl believes in what she's doing and is acting accordingly. Much like the students who go on stage after each and every school massacre and demand that something should be done about the guns in this country. They all get attacked by as*shole politicians, NRA freaks and other nutters because they want change and are therefore a threat to the status quo. In the end, nothing ever gets done because some idiot dinosaurs aren't able to jump over their shadow. Climate change, environmental protection, population control ... it's always the same.

She was and still is a tool.

She's a kid.

The temperatue of the oceans rises at present at the rate as if generated by the energy of the atomic bomb of Hiroshima exploding inside them every four seconds. So much heat is taken in by the oceans now. We live in a glasshouse, but because the glasshouse is so big, we don't feel this too much yet. But our descendants certainly will.

She does, but as you say, she is just a kid, who is being manipulated and used..... it is disgusting to see.

I am shaking in my boots and waiting for what that "something" - as in "let's do something" - is.
In the meantime, the rich and the beautiful are buying ocean-front properties for the amounts with more zeros than in a box of Cheerios.
They must be unaware that in 18 months their multi-bedroom homes will be fish tanks.

They all get attacked by as*shole politicians, NRA freaks and other nutters

....and those who can read the 2nd Amendment and the Supreme Court rulings on the subject. It sucks to be able to read and understand such offensive material.

They may have a clue but most are still too scared to say out loud what it is. And will remain in that state until the number of useful idiots exceeds the critical mass.

They may have a clue

I truly believe that they don't.
They are just consumed by this overiding fear that we are destroying the world.
Which I don't believe we are.
