Here's a question. Why do Poles get so offended over such silly things? I swear you guys are the most sensitive people on earth. Go cry somewhere else.

Baloney, if Poles were denigrated as you say they are they wouldn't be all over the world. Poles are noted for their intelligence and work ethic, I mean they never have difficulty getting a job now do they?

apple made the money on slave labor in china and is one of the welfare companies that benefit from changed from patent laws in U.S. it is disgusting what that company stands for.

Sure this article on its own is not big deal.

First of all it is simply stupid... comparing market capitalization to annual GDP...

You're spot on, it's bollocks. GDP is akin to income not market value or market cap. If one really wants to compare a company with a country (although it makes little sense), you would have to look at annual revenues. In Apple's case, that just over 100 bn$ for 2011..

Talking about Apple, i'm reminded of Michael Dell, CEO of Dell, who replied, when asked in 1997 what he would do if he were the CEO of Apple : " shut it down and return money to the shareholders" (at the time, Apple was almost bankrupt). Today, Apple is worth 16 times Dell! (500 bn$ vs 30 bn$). The times, they do change..

Polish jokes, you can even see them on the comments

So are you whining about the article and the light in which you think Poland was cast or about the comments?
Having read the article I can see that the writer simply used numbers in choosing the countries he did. We went down a list of countries' gdps or gnps and chose a variety-whoopdeedoo!

The comments? Looks like mostly Polish people who got offended that someone didn't praise Poland and by proxy them for being Polish and very loosely related to something some other Polish person accomplished in the past- a f'n virus with a lot of people lately.

This blogger : russian-front.com/2012/02/29/remarkably-dumb-journalism/ took exactly the same position but in addition he attempted to estimate capitalization of Poland. Accuracy of actual numbers aside, he came to these two conclusions:

1. So leaving out all the malls and office buildings going up in Warsaw, and all those cows and pigs in the Polish countryside, we find it would cost at least $1770 billion to buy Poland, making it worth at least three times as much as Apple.

2. My question is why professional financial journalists make basic mistakes like this [boletus:comparing GDP to market capitalization]

The article is obviously biased because it is not even true , because Poland`s anual GDP is over 500 bilion , so mentioning about Poland in this article says something about its author . Why did he compare stock value to annual GDP . It iseems that from financial perspective both numbers have nothing in common .

It also seems very ridiculous to compare a country`s yearly GDP having known that The Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE), Polish: Giełda Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie, has a capitalization of € 220 bln (as of April 2011)[1]., which even makes far more in USD . I am sure that if they wanted to capitalize its stocks they would go bancrupt within days with worthless papers . Remember that stock is just only a kind of paper which is very sensitive to the market like nothing else . Polish stock market value does not make our contry strong but its capital .

I agree with OP that the artice follows the trend some newspapers promote .I am not even surprised , just check the roots of David Goldman - the author ..........

Quite. The OP evidently thinks journalists should only write things which promote Poland. Laughable really.

You can read more comments about his stupid article and how he handles this case .

His answer to some postter " look, you want to hate me for making a silly comparison, hate me. But can we leave the anti-Semetic remarks out of it, commenters? Thanks." It seems that he admits his brainless comparison .

More anti Polish sentiment in western media

See? pressure increasing already.

Remember- so called west destroyed Yugoslavia. Don`t buy that crap story about internal dissolution of Yugoslavia. No, Yugoslavia was attacked and destroyed. Its another story that so called west side by side Islamic league also stimulated internal factors and forces that fought against that vast Slavic state- Yugoslavia. Democratic process for the state dissolution never happened. Never. War was started from the outside

What can Poland expect? to be next target?

More anti Polish sentiment in western media

'Apple's valuation is now higher than the gross domestic product of Poland, Belgium, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, or Taiwan.' Funny that out of those countries he just so happened to pick Poland as an example, degrading one, pointing out that a some company is worth more than a country. And funny that the author is a David Goldman. Zionist prick.

Funny how you don't mention the post about people threatening him and his family. Does that not fit in with your image of Poles as all completely perfect?

'Apple's valuation is now higher than the gross domestic product of Poland, Belgium, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, or Taiwan.'

What's wrong with that. Should all mention of Poland be forbidden in the media unless the article is promoting it?

Which of those countries is biggest?

Always amusing to see members of Polonia spewing out the anti-semitic attitudes which they are foolish enough to believe are representative of Poles.

Saudi Arabia

Always amusing that other Europeans can't see anti Polish bigotry. American Jews (of course not the majority) but many are know for being anti Polish. Jewish authors and journalists for their 'mistakes' with 'Polish concentration camps' which somehow keep repeating themselves. Saudia Arabia and Sweden are both bigger and have been wealthier than Poland, wonder why he didn't put them in his title.

Why should he choose them rather than Poland? Why should anyone take offence at the article which isn't an example of 'anti-Polish sentiment at all'? Even though the very existence of this thread here suggests there is such a thing as Pol-Am internet paranoia.

You obviously don't live in the US and don't know anything about it. If the author was comparing African Americans ghetto living standards to a third world country, it would be WWIII. But he thinks it's ok to slip in a slight mockery of Poland.

You obviously don't live in the US and don't know anything about it.

You do realise that Poland isn't actually in the US...

it. If the author was comparing African Americans ghetto living standards to a third world country, it would be WWIII.

He wasn't.

But he thinks it's ok to slip in a slight mockery of Poland.

He didn't.

He just chose countries at random. Why should he treat Poland with kid gloves?

He just chose countries at random.

Dude open ur eyes. He's a educated person, everything he does is well thought through. He said it purposely to mock Poland.
