There are reports that streets (including trams and buses) are blocked in some parts of warsaw.

I think they really underestimated how strongly people think about it.

They are rightards for a good reason.

There are reports that streets (including trams and buses

Yes, they are stuck in jams but drivers display slogans of solidarity with protesters:

  • The Tram of Freedom

  • Choice/ Np Ban

Poor Iron must be losing what is left of his rightard illusions on Poland.

He has no choice (no allusion intended). Fascists will never get more than 10% votes here. Even that 10% is too much if we remember what Poland went through during WW2. I suppose the next poll after the protests will show that fascists are able to attract only 5%.

you how 'kind' and 'nice

Nobody is only all nice or all kind. She probably meant that if not for her religion she wouldn't act in a such way as she does i.e. preforming some 'good' acts. My guess.

I find that most 'Roman Catholics'

From the pool of people you know. Now it is correct.

you pay old men in dresses

well, maybe their are old in your neck of the woods in Poland there lost of young and strapping lads, I guess you can wear it if that is a dress, If not just can it.

BBC being balanced for a change. I reckon they have been ordered to keep the Polish Government onside due to Brexit negotiations.

"Abortion is a deeply divisive issue in Poland. A 2014 opinion poll by the CBOS research centre found that 65% of Poles surveyed were against abortion, 27% saw it as acceptable and 8% were undecided.

However, for years opinion polls have found a clear majority against the latest tightening of the law."

How would Poland be of any help in the Brexit negotiations??

old men in dresses

In fairness now, there are plenty of those in the Anglican church too!

What fascists are we talking about? Have they traveled in time and space and moved from 30's Italy to modern Poland?

All in all, with all those new pro-abortion riots I'm kind of relieved that we've moved away from the "pandemic" hysteria which was a dominant [and universally enforced] topic #1 in most mass media for the last 8 months.

Any, even the most unrest, socio-political situation is better than a submissive dust-masked mob repeating coronaflu mantra and following more and more stupid instructions coming from WHO and the ministry of health.

Go out on the streets, protest in a civilized manner if you like so (don't count on me here though), don't keep the "social distance", just live like a free man (or a woman), not a slave.

Who are 'we'? Haven't you been listening to the speeches of the Duck Prince?? According to him, the protesters are risking the lives of their countrymen by spreading the virus.

What fascists are we talking about?

The ones who purge the military, purge the courts, stifle the media, reform education, break treaties, arrest their critics, silence the people.........

Who are 'we'?

We, the people :-)

You see @Atch, with such statements you contribute to the normalization of terms like "fascists" or "nazi".
Nowadays everyone on the internet who doesn't agree with another person is suddenly a 'nazi' or at least a 'fascist'. And obviously, politicians who are not politically correct enough.

Nota bene, Joseph Stalin, a great liberal democrat from the USSR, was an avid proponent of the term 'fascist' and he called almost every group of people opposing communist rule a 'fascists', including Polish Home Army who has fought with Germans in WWII.

And remember that the court/media/education (you name it) purges were done by the communists in Poland, not 'fascists'. Many of those commie nominated judges were and still are, placed on prominent positions in the judicial system and in academia. And some of them have indeed been purged quite recently

Name specific crimes committed by specific judges or shut up about that.... a bunch of compliant judges who do whatever JK says is supposed to be an improvement?

How?

Name specific crimes committed by specific judges or shut up about that...

judge Łączewski faces charges of falsely reporting a crime and then falsely testifying (he's no longer a judge by now cause he quit)

in 2005 there was a female judge in Suwałki committed suicide after learning that she would be facing disciplinary measures

judge Łączewski faces

One, even a few, out of 10.000. Can you calculate the ratio?
gumishu 13 | 6,140

One, even a few, out of 10.000.

it was the same judge who sentenced Mariusz Kamiński for a time in prison - they had to try a couple of judges to do that and Łączewski was apparently willing and ready (judges ware appointed to cases then not drawn by chance)

Joseph Stalin, a great liberal democrat from the USSR

A liberal democrat? Or an authoritarian in the PiS mold...

And some of them have indeed been purged quite recently

QED.

How old is he and how old was he when he was appointed to be a judge in the PRL?

judge in the PRL?

No one born prior to 1980 should be allowed to hold office.

Either Purge the PRL old boys or let the young take control.

Empty the swamp.

How old is he and how old was he

why haven't you looked him up yourself? Wojciech Łączewski is 40 now.

No one born prior to 1980 should be allowed to hold office.

I'd push it back to 1970 and then it's not the worst idea in the world - too many political systems are clogged by living fossils...

he's 40 now

so he has nothing to do with 'commie nominated judges'.... good to know!

No that's nonsense - while you were in the Polish Club lamenting the loss of the Dwor and the Uhlans lots of people were working hard to free and build a new country - that includes people from all sides of the current debate.

Their experience is still needed
dolnoslask 6 | 2,935

I'd push it back to 1970

Ok I would go for that.

while you were in the Polish Club lamenting the loss

Yes we were lamenting our family members who were killed prior to and during their time in Siberia , we spent years praying for those murdered at Katyn while our western host would deny the atrocity not wishing to upset their soviet allies.

We lamented those killed during the Warsaw uprising while the soviets chose to watch rather than help .

You have no Fxxxing idea .

Who are you , are you Polish ?

29 Oct 2020 #1,644
Yes, just as much as you are.

And like all Polish families I had some relatives killed in the war, some by the Soviets and some by the Germans. They are people I didn't know - just photos.

You sound like a self centred individual.

I remember when I asked my father about my grandfather and how he told me through tears in his eyes how his father died in Africa from a disease contracted in Siberia. my father was serving in Italy at the time and received this news and a picture of his father in a coffin, I still have this picture today, it is one of only two pictures of my grandad.

Yeah as you say just photos, glad things are just that simple for you.
cms neuf 1 | 1,790
29 Oct 2020 #1,646
Maybe it's more about looking forward than being self centered. Obsessing about Katyn, cursed soldiers or martial law or nocny zmiana won't make this society stronger. What it needs are working institutions and PiS have worked hard to destroy them.

I'd not have a limit; it depends on the person. Plus, especially for a senate/HoL it's good to have centuries of combined experience.

lots of people were working hard to free and build a new country - that includes people from all sides of the current debate.

This is true. People who put their country first.

Yes, just as much as you are.

The difference is that you are currently sober. Dolno isn't.

make this society stronger.

It is time for the younger generations (post PRL influence 1970 or whatever) to sweep the old communist block mentality ( plenty of in Poland) into the dustbin.

what is your point?

Spike was yammering about 'commie appointed judges' and I said I'm not interested in that fairytale unless he can produce PRL installed judges guilty of specific crimes....

time for the younger generations (post PRL influence 1970 or whatever) to sweep the old communist block mentality

For me it has little or nothing to do with that, but in many countries ancient living fossils are taking up too much space in the political realm, get them out of here!
