Welll...did he have blue eyes??? Probably...he looks so germanic!

You are sick. It is what I am talking about. I have to write in all articles I write that I am Polish and I feel Polish not German even my mother has German name but it doesn't matter. All blue eyed Poles do the same !!! Because one day somebody will claim you to be German.

This guy (BB) is sick.

z_darius:

Poles are more analytical and poetic

Isn't this a contradiction???

You are confusing poetry with mess.

And anyway...it's Germany which is known as "the land of the thinkers and poets!" :)

I know. But it's understandably natural as Germans need to do a whole lot more thinking than Poles before they come up with some big time idea.

Martin Luther thought and thought and thought some more and then... nothing! - he ended up thinking that the Sun revolves around the earth.

In this particular case even the pretty pictures didn't help, and since multimedia were in their infancy at the time Martin Luther died as stupid as he was born.

2. If he really felt so proud to be German, he would have helped his fellow brethren in capturing more Polish land

That's not the point. I'm proud to be Russian but this doesn't mean I always share my government's views and humour them.

Nah...Slavs have roundish heads...not so long, quadratic skulls like germanics!

Heh... My Lithuanian friend bought a car in Germany and had to get a transit visa in Poland. He [friend] has a dolichocephalic (long) skull (rather germanic type) and fair hair. When he took a picture n Poland for visa, they rounded his head and made him red-haired. Awesome picture!!! :))) Pure Polack! :))

Subj: I'm quite sideliner here... but just wonder... BB, does Kopernik sound german to you? Or you claim his last name were forcibly altered to Kopernik from any german version of this word? For me Kopernik sounds rather Slavic...

Read this:

economicexpert.com/a/Copernicus:nationality.htm

He several times signed as his name Kopperlingk, possibly because his father's family business in the city of Thorn/Torun was copper and therefore the Low German Kopper (High German Kupfer) and the -lingk ending indicated someone who dabbled in copper. It has been the custom of German people to take on the occupations or the town names as last names.

What ?

You sound like another poster Lukasz.....who likes to make a dramatic production about leaving the forum and then pops up a few days later with a new name. :) Don't cha?

Come out of your candy wrapper Luki!

Seems everybody who is now online posting in this thread only. :)

It reminds me of the town Koepenick...you know....in Berlin :)

nik is typically slavic suffix. :) The base reminds me of "copper" only... :)) (metal) and doesn't look slavic.

Polish word koper means in english dill

Cool. :) In Russian it's "ukrop". Close. :) Good to know.

But do you violently oppose them?

I just oppose with no "violently". The word "violently" undermeans fanatism, which is bad and I always try to avoid that feeling.

It isn't him. Lukasz is busy gathering a crusade together to march into Germany....

Actually, Berlin was established by Slavs, and the name itself is purely Slavic.

Nah.....I don't think so.
He's addicted to this place even when it gets the best of him.
And he has a fascination with adopting other personas!
Freud would have a field day with him.

Okay....WHO can we fight over next?

USE POLISH ENGLISH DICTIONARY
KOPER IS IN ENGLISH DILL. IT IS POLISH WORD.

I don't know what are you talking about.

Yep! Your English skills are on par with Luki, too.

You should claim it!
(And then throw the Turks out...pleeeaaaase!)

:)

KOPER IS IN ENGLISH DILL. IT IS POLISH WORD.

Erm....and that Koper is english (or not) makes Kopernikus polish???

This logic IS so "lukian"....:)

Ok BB, that's a good point. But look at Julekcg's dill-version. It sounds plausible as well.
So "the battle for Copernik" Ger-Pol 1 - 1 so far.

Goodnight my Polish brothers and sisters.

Hey, why only "polish"?! :( Where do you guys live right now? In Moscow it's morning now. I thought you Filios lived in Greece.

I don't understand some plots here.
Koper is Polish word check in dictionary.

portalwiedzy.onet.pl/tlumacz.html?qs=koper&tr=ang-auto&x=0&y=0

ending -nik is Polish.
Piernik Sernik Kopernik.

Gute Nacht Frau Shopgirl ;)

Where is the reason for "dill"??? I don't understand...

ending -nik is Polish.

Sure...-nik is polish, that's why his family name was probably Kopplerlingk and later became Kopernikus!

Only Poles call him the polish version of Kopernik....

That's also the main reason why the space program will stay called "Kopernikus" and not the polish-only version of "Kopernik"...
