Polish cleaner blows the lid on 'dirty' Germans

I just want you to spill out your germanophobia

First time I've been accused of that one! Usually it's Teutophilia...

you nurture your very own form of nationalistic bigotry like the rest of us

Interesting you think that - would you say the same about Justyna Romanowska?

How about answering the question:

What makes you think the accusations in this article are "plausible"?

Happily. I've known plenty of cleaners, and plenty more people who employ cleaners, and her stories of how she's been treated by affluent people ring true. Do you think they don't?

I agree entirely. And that goes for both the situation here and in the UK (admittedly in the middle east it is a fair bit different).

In Germany?

You know plenty of polish cleaners in Germany and they tell all the same as Justyna did???

In various places - and yes, I do know a few Polish cleaners! The person who cleans my main home (who by the way is employed legally and paid above the going rate) has told me some horror stories about other people he cleans for.

However in Justyna's case, she's written a best-selling book about it.

Oooh you are wriggling about!

Just admit you thought this article supports your anti-german prejudices you already nurtured.
It's that easy! Chickenshit? :)

Wriggling? Hardly.

What "anti-german prejudices" might those be?

Under German Beds by the 32-year-old Polish cleaner – who writes under the pen name Justyna Polanska – has only just been released, but the account, which is drawn from her 12 years' experience of cleaning for well-to-do German households, already seems destined to be a bestseller.

That sounds like an interesting read but really, people are like that all over. It's not just Germans, but Germans are certainly capable. Stereotypes are merely myths.

What "anti-german prejudices" might those be?

"Dirty" for once? "Mean tight arses"? Discriminating poor Poles left and right?

Choose one (or all)

Stereotypes are merely myths.

Noooo...german stereotypes are definitely true!!!

Choose one (or all)

Or none.

You're clutching at straws again. Quoting the headline of the newspaper article ("dirty") yet another time, as if I'm the journalist who wrote it.

Where the other two:

Mean tight arses

and

Discriminating poor Poles leftandright?

come from is anyone's guess. You really will have to try much harder.

So you all are fat, loud, beer guzzling Nazis?

I insist on it!

...butnotdirty....

You're clutching at straws again.

Well..."sweetie" you opened this thread and set the tone. Don't blame others reacting to your ideas accordingly! You used the article and it's outspoken accusations clad in a story to support existing prejudices and found it all "quite telling".

Next you will say we all suffer hallucinations...But you can only backpedal so much! ;)

"Dirty" for once?

Probably just typical slobs who slosh around and make big messes. Their maid probably has a weak back and hates bending over to pick stuff up. They probably don't mop up their spills, clean their toilets or pick up their dirty clothes. They could be obnoxious and arrogant as well. Being a maid must surely suck.

So stop doing it, Sweetie!

Well..."sweetie" you opened this thread and set the tone. Don't blame others reacting to your ideas accordingly! You used the article and it's outspoken accusations clad in a story to support existing prejudices and found it all "quite telling".

Again, you miss the point. I posted an article from today's newspaper about a Pole who has written a book. You're the one who sees "existing prejudices". And yes the article is telling, given the employment experiences of Polish expats.

Next you will say we all suffer hallucinations

Only you, it seems. So go on then, show me one thing I've written that proves

anti-german prejudice

I respect their work though....I'm a slouch myself....the moment I can afford one I will take great pains to make sure to be double nice to her! :)

And yes the article is telling, given the employment experiences of Polish expats.

ROFL

We really seem to have communication problems!

When you post an article full of demeaning anti-german stuff and then support this article blindly and still try to sell us that you don't harbor any prejudices yourself - that get's surreal, really! :)

More likely that you have comprehension problems, or just dislike reading a Pole's point of view about her experiences in your country!

?

It wasn't me making the arc to "dirty Germans" or seeing that as "quite telling". Do you really think us that stupid?

And there are still so many Polish expats who are being exploited and mistreated in wealthier countries. At least one one of them has managed to get a book published about it.

You can't leave it, can't you!

What you call exploitation is called "work" here in Germany...

sueddeutsche.de/leben/eine-putzfrau-in-deutschland-augen-zu-und-durchwischen-1.1043767

Translation by me:

...
It's not that Justyna cleans unwilling. "It's a nice feeling when everything is proper again", she says. "I get good money, make holidays, I drive a car. What do I want more?"
Also it's not especially risky to clean illegal. "If someone asks I'm a friend who helps with the household".
She is married with an Italian, they don't have children.
She earns 1500 - 2000 Euros per month cash, unthinkable in Poland. There she never cleaned but if she would do it it would be 1,50 Euros per hour maximum.
Today she doesn't work not under 10 or 11 Euros, as the curse is fluctuating, different everywhere. That follows the money in the town - and how many Poles there are.

Yeah...what exploitation of the poor Poles!!!
If that means exploitation to you then I accept the dirty, mean Germans too...ROFL

She has my full compassion for her dreary fate, modern slavery, call Amnesty International!!!

Yeah...what exploitation

only half her weekly wage on the kitchen table and a note which said: "Sorry, Justyna – short of cash."

So yes "mean Germans", as you call them, or not, that means exploitation.

Heh:)
Somehow has no influence of her 1500 - 2000 each month, her holidays...her car...

Those darn stingy Germans!

Erm...are you commie? Only those kind normally thinks of work as "exploitation"...

Erm...are you commie? Only those kind normally thinks of work as "exploitation"...

Actually communists only think work that people are denied the fruits of is exploitation, but never mind, having half her wage witheld certainly counts as being denied the fruits of labour.

You still haven't shown me one thing I've written that proves I have

anti-german prejudice

Why? That people like to read gossip? Dirty laundry? She wrote she cleans for Promis too...that and sexs sells all the time. The dirtier the better! ;)

Can't have happened to often...with 2000 Euros per month.
Do you know that many Germans toil for much less much harder?

Ask Justyna if she prefers communism to 2000 Euros per month...holidays...cars...

ROFL

God...now it get's crazy! Sorry but you won't convince anybody and his few bucks per month that Justyna is a poor, exploited victim of mean, stingy Germans.

And now we know why she works in Germany for 12 years already without any plans of leaving - she has a darn good life here! FACT!

PS: I have a strong feeling you can wait for the ukrainian version of such a book blaming their polish employers.
There is a lot of envy and jealousy around...especially for people who think being a cleaner is something to be ashamed about!

I don't think there is anything wrong with people doing any kind of dirty job since the truth is they need to be done. One interesting TV show they have here is called "Dirty Jobs" and it shows how needed these jobs are to keep a civilized society going. It gives an appreciation for the people who do these dirty jobs.

There is nothing wrong with these jobs, especially if somebody can build a business from them. Some of the wealthiest people here own, cleaning, sanitation, landscaping, plumbing, construction, etc type businesses.

As for this lady writing this book about "dirty Germans", it could be based on sour grapes and a grudge she has against Germans. The book is based on her opinion. I'm sure there are some biases she has.

But if she didn't like the cleaning jobs she was doing in Germany, maybe she should have left Germany.

I think one of the things you and I agree on is the craziness, of when person A goes to country B and complains about country B even though that person CHOSE to live there.

I have criticized those Poles who have CHOSE to live in England and Germany who then complain about those countries. If they don't like those countries, they should leave them.

At the same time, I'm sick of hearing about people who CHOOSE to live in Poland or the USA who then complain about those countries. We have people running over our southern borders who then exploit American hospitals and our welfare system who then have the nerve to complain about the USA.

I don't care who you are, if you CHOOSE to live in a country, you should not complain about it and if you do, you should LEAVE IT.

Yeah...you as an American shouldn know about that phenomenon! ;)

I'm quite sure now that the state will read her book quite intersted too...if they ever find her there is alot to pay back on taxes for 12 years. That would be the true reason for her pseudonym...not sure if this book will proof such a good idea in the long run for her ;)

(Not to mention those who employ her illegally..the taxing authorities must glow with interest by now)
