The fattest people on earth are American(s).

It's true. Very sad, but true. It's the land of gluttony to the 10th degree.

100-200+ years ago, average weight of men were about 120 kg (250 pounds.) But, they were not fat. I guess, women even today would find them more attractive. (we are critisizing women here - but, we men are in worse shapes.)

I NEVER eat fast food or junk food, so I can't blame this on McDonalds. But we do eat lunch at restaurants almost every work day. That's one of the problems, very hard to figure out the calories when you go out a lot. Desk job - that's a big one. Also, I do not like artificial sweeteners, so no diet drinks. Another big one: I love to cook, and I cook with real butter a lot. I do not take any pills, or energy drinks, which a lot of girls around here use as a diet aid. When I lived in cities, I used to walk much more, but around here, we don't even have sidewalks! It's from the door to the car, back to the door. Not easy.. I'm not exactly stressing out about this, but it's pissing me off that I never had to worry about what I ate, and now I'm freaking counting calories!

. But we do eat lunch at restaurants almost every work day.

That will do it. I once picked into the kitchen at a restaurant and I saw the chef pour melted butter with a ladle on a plate of pasta. I must have been something like a stick that went onto that plate.

But don't you think the age has to do with your weight issue (if you have one, of course)? In my twenties I used to be size 2 without ever doing anything about it, nowadays I have to put quite a lot of work into fitting into size 10.

definitely! I'm sure our metabolism slows down when we age.
Another evil thing is the TV recorder. Every day there is another two hours of choice programming saved for me. It's a curse! I'm supposed to watch in my rowing machine, but you know how that goes..

2525 if man is still alive..

Zager and Evansbut anyhow it's 6 am here and i'm getting ready to go to training. Activity is your friend. I know a lot more men here that are active in sport. Get active and over the long run you'll pay attention to what you eat and benefit.

Although the thread title might seem to be picking on women I wrote it with good intentions. I honestly am appalled at how quickly young people have let themselves slide in comparison to a generation ago. Polish women, if nothing else will mention their mantra of "we are the mostest beautifulest..." so this is kind of like a nudge to them. Get fit and wake up to the dangers of modern food (and it really is sad that some foods are dangerous if I stop to think about that) cause it's taking its toll on your bodies, ie your appearance is paying the price.

Americans are the fattest because food there is rather cheap if you buy it in quantities. They want to sell bulk and being fat raises the demand for meat and agricultural products. It is the only way they have to keep demand for meat high and the food industry moving and profiting.

In other countries where people are slim and do not have to preserve their calories farmers and cowboys starve.

not that I like the topic, since it is about women and how they neglect themselves and I am not going to comment on that.

I am on vacation at the moment, have time to make my own meals and I watch what I eat (cutt down on sweets and carbs), however I eat what I want. I am shedding pounds like crazy. Plus- no stress and THAT is a big factor.

So activity- just bought a bike.
Healthy food.

lack of stress, which not many people mention is the factor in keeping in shape.

If the topic was about men neglecting themselves, would you feel any different?

Now, aphrodisiac, it's not all Polish women, it really is the younger generation that are packing on the weight.
Stress?
How stressful lis life in Poland now compared to 10 years ago and more...you seem to be suggesting it's more stressful but I wonder if it really is.

Healthy food.
I remember when it was hard to find unhealthy food, food should never be an enemy if someone is reasonably active. Sadly however this isn't the case.

this is a topic that I have very strong opinions about. It is a combination of things. First of all in Poland- there is a huge desire to be like the west- stems from communism. Then there is the fact that so many people live abroad but still maintain ties to Poland. They always make the grass appear greener on the other side.

So fast forward 20 years---there is access to healthier more nutritious food- yet people make a conscious decision to eat and feed their families processed garbage. Not to mention the weekly stop at mcdonalds or kfc.

I asked a friend of mine why people are so into packaged refined food and he said because Poland never had it before.
So now the population is fatter.
And fast.
It is not just women. There are so many men that carry the gut, smoke and drink. It is a ticket for disaster.
This isn't a class, gender or difference in education- this is many Polish people.
Office people eat out every day. My husband does- but he is really active and we don't eat fast foods- so he is not at all fat.--If you sit behind a desk all day then you shouldn't be eating cutlet, fritki and kapusta every day. Not to mention that revolting slop they call food at mcdonalds.

people drink coke like it is water. disgusting- there is like 2 cups of sugar in every can of coke.
and then there is the media. Buy buy buy- if you buy this or eat this you will be a better person- then wash it all down with a diet pill.

the diet industry is a multi billion dollar industry. however, they need people to be fat or else they don't make their money.
notice how many diet related businesses have popped up in Poland recently?
here is the trick.
eat fresh fruits and veg, fresh meats, unrefined carbs, sweets and alcohol in moderation.
exercise daily. which means move your body- not from the couch to the fridge- but do something that makes you sweat.
in my world I see so many fat kids with black teeth- it is disgusting and in my opinion is a form of child abuse.

There are some porkers around but just wait til the sun becomes more of a mainstay. You'll see quite a few with lovely stomachs out and about. To me, a large part of attraction is personality. Lust after only looks and you show your shallowness.

very true- but my issue is more with health. the plastic foods that are being consumed by Poles is disgusting.--they only need to look to the west to see what will happen if you diet on kfc and mcdonalds.

i think that Poles ate better during communism. everything was cooked from scratch- it may not have been the best quality meats- but no worse than the foods of today.

I agree, pip. Some Poles are easily led and have succumbed to this nonsense called the rat race. They want fast options where taking your time will do. It's all about planning carefully so why make yourself plump because of a lack of it??

Maybe we should start a recipe thread or cooking ideas thread...

Here's a super simple one: dissolve a couple anchovies in oil and fry your potatoes in that. It's just a side dish but the anchovies impart a nice flavour to a load of potatoes.

Another one, I like bacon, you like bacon, we all like bacon. Bacon is super fatty, next time you cook a load of bacon, roll each strip up and skewer a bunch on a skewer (I use wooden ones but metal ones are superior for obvious reasons) place as many of these skewers over a pan and cook them in the oven on low heat.

These are retardedly easy and require no real cooking skill other than monitoring heat...

Anyways to get this back on track, one thing that happens is that young people don't spend enough time learning to cook from their mothers. Cooking does require patience and practice at times and IS a process of learning from failures. Does anyone think that the younger generation they more expectant they are of quick results? Maybe they get discouraged from exploring the last unpolluted art form left (that's cooking for those of you who are reading impaired)?

Polish women, in Poland are still the best looking worldwide. Go to Poland, as I did, a few times, and check for yourself.

potatoes: thumb down

fried: thumb down
carbs with fat is what makes your belly grow

When McDonalds first arrived in Poland 99% of females looked amazing and slim.
I saw all those children lured into McDonalds.

yes exactly.. The American way is so visibly wrong, yet they crown themselves the leaders of the civilised world..

That is just silly, besides fit and skinny are two different matters. If a woman simply wants to be skinny, then she's ignorant. If she wants to be fit then she shouldn't gorge herself with what she eats but enjoy her food and either before or after, enjoy some exercise.

No to fried? Learn how to do it properly and it's not an issue. I know more than a few professional and amateur athletes and not only is eliminating fried foods impractical but it's unnecessary. That kind of talk smacks of silly north american attitudes that there's some magic rule beyond: moderation; exercise; cooking with natural produce.

Valpomike, clearly you need to reread the first page of this thread.

Yep they are fat here but of course not as big as in the UK, Ireland or especially good ole USA. I went to Ukraine for the weekend and came back to Poland and the girls looked fat here so its all a matter of perspective. Unfortunately more money equals more fat if health education doesn't exist.

I wholeheartedly disagree! It is a question of education on the matter. I don't want to say it's a question of intelligence but in a sense it is if we isolate the subject...:/

I really dont think nations become fat simply because they start eating more, its more a case of the shite they pump into food these days. All in the name of profit.
