So I am told Polish men are a chivalrous bunch?

I have just arrived for a holiday in Katowice and I have been completely amazed at how polite the men are. Seriously, every single one has been a true gentleman.

I am not shocked or amazed because it is a bad thing, but because this is not so common in my country.

A young man at the airport insisted on carrying my luggage for me as I wandered around aimlessly looking for my friends. Another man bought me coffee later that day. I haven't opened one door for myself the last two days I've been here. One guy I met yesterday night insisted on helping me put on my sweater cardigan! I was like....well sure! Thanks! Also I've had a few men kiss my hand? This is all very strange to me, but I love it.

Is this the norm here? Should I expect this for the rest of my trip? Or am I just meeting the right guys at the right time?

If you are an attractive lady, it's common for Polish men to be chivalrous :). And if you don't speak Polish (or your accent is weird) - you are even luckier ;). Still, at an airport you should be careful not to trust anyone, especially taxi drivers :

Men are chivalrous indeed to women, they are also incredibly sexist and should you marry one you'll be expected to iron their shirts and make their dinner (including soup starter) every single day of your married life.

Yes they are

they are also incredibly sexist and should you marry one you'll be expected to iron their shirts and make their dinner (including soup starter) every single day of your married life.

To certain degree, yes they are, but that is changing.
The kind of men you just described are the type that cannot live without mommy. Need to make a sandwich for them before they go to work. Again they think that wife is their mommy.

But men are expected to do the harder type of work, like fixing things, do the harder work. While the wife is polishing their nails. Kinda cultural thing. But it's changing.

have you got any idea at all how creepy that sounds? not to mention the super creepy little smily face.
I would agree with smurf here, who wants a man to rush forwards to open a door for a lady if upon marriage he thinks she should be his slavey.

Normal people, for example here in the UK, would hold the door open for whoever was behind them, regardless of sex appeal or even gender.

IME with Polish men they are quite happy to sit with their feet up while their sister or wife carries a carpet home for the house on her back.

How chivalrous is that? :D

Yea, it's terrible.

Thankfully though it is changing. Roll on the future!

How chivalrous is that?

Yea, it's a certain type of two-face chivalry, they'll open the door and buy you flowers but as soon as the door closes it's 'you're doing all the housework kochnia, I'm watchin the volleyball!'

In my experience, as a guy, nobody holds the door open for me in Poland. I was quite surprised, as in the UK people commonly hold the door for whoever is coming through just behind them - it's considered quite rude not to (though depends where you are, maybe not so common in multicultural London).

So Polish men may be chivalrous to women, if they feel like it, but they can seem less polite in general, from a British perspective (also by being very direct in what they say).

One guy I met yesterday night insisted on helping me put on my sweater cardigan! I was like....well sure!

If he helps you take it off it is only polite that he helps you put it back on no matter what country you are in.

I haven't opened one door for myself the last two days I've been here.

Button your blouse and see what happens.

I am not shocked or amazed because it is a bad thing, but because this is not so common in my country.

The wide bottom femenist movement in the USA brought it on themselves because they want to be equal to men.
That is because in the USA there are so many Femanist Neo Natzi man haters that men are conditioned not to even look at women in fear of being maced or having the law called on them for sexual harassment.

However your statement is just not true as I see men opening doors for the smiling women on a daily bases just to get a smell of their perfume. The ones with attitude and an ornery glare might have to open her own door.

Good, he's a 21st century man.......pity the vast majority of his compatriots aren't the same.......they are changing though.

Oh they are supposed to help me with such things? Why don't you inform my American male friends.

Button my blouse? You're hilarious. I like how you just assume, without ever knowing me personally, that I am this kind of woman.

And again, how funny you are to assume I'm a feminist and this is why in my home country men do not show me such chivalry. Or better yet, I'm just giving out glares. I made a generalized statement, one that you clearly have taken personally. And I don't know where about you live dear, but it's not where I live.

Stop trolling love. Take a chill pill, if you're a gentleman than you don't have to prove that to the Internet.

Button my blouse? You're hilarious.

That is exactly the way I meant it, I am glad appreciate my sense of humor.

And again, how funny you are to assume I'm a feminist and this is why in my home country men do not show me such chivalry. Or better yet, I'm just giving out glares.

No, you are assuming that I was assuming that you were a femanist. No where did I state you were a femanist.
Go re read my post a little slower for comprehension before you start assuming with attitude.

The ones with attitude might have to open her own door.

I was simply telling you "why" men in the US act the way they do in general compared to men in Poland.

Stop trolling love. Take a chill pill,

Gee Toots, you're the one amping out.

the next he is suggesting you are some crazed feminazi, probably wearing a boiler suit and steel toe capped boots

Girl you have one heck of an imagination to what probably I was suggesting.
I suggested no such thing, those are your words so you are doing the suggesting, not I.

I have to disagree with you, I am nowhere near that nor are the Polish men I know.

who wants a man to rush forwards to open a door for a lady if upon marriage he thinks she should be his slavey.

How many Polish men have you dated to get such a bizarre opinion?

Good, he's a 21st century man.......pity the vast majority of his compatriots aren't the same.......they are changing though.

You mean we are changing into a men who can't change the light bulb, mend the dripping tap, replace the fuse, or fix the vacuum cleaner? I don't think so.

Why don't you let women decide for themselves what they like and what suits them? Are you implying women are weak minded and need your advice and guidance.

why does being a modern man all of a sudden mean he cant change a light bulb, and seriously, are there actually women out there in this day and age who need a man to change the light bulb for her?

Yup, These "Such Women" get married to these chivalrous stone aged men.
And being marriage is nothing more than legalized prostitution.......

Mine either.
I love spoiling her. Nothing like a woman who smiles.
Still must admit that Rosey seems to be a little outdated on today's chivalrous men.
No wonder she was so surprised when she met one.

Yes Polish men are very chivalrous, even the ones I met in Canada. Especially if you are a Croatian girl :) Polish men are a knightly breed (rycerski ród)!
