Then thoughts can run your mind like what if: the temp dropped to -60 and stayed there, what if it snowed hard for a week solid.

Sounds just like Northen Russia....but they are used to it...It would be tough for us Brits with British cars and British ideas to survive such nonsense...

i'll squeeze in a little traffic report, if i may.

the road back from berlin to wroclaw (6:00-10:00am) was single lane and mostly white.
there were snow ploughs out and we found ourselves behind one doing 60km/h.
the road was almost devoid of traffic. no TIR's at all.

however, the road to berlin was jam packed and slow.

add an hour or so, if you're travelling either way.

top speed seemed to be about 80-110 km/h depending on which stretch of road.

watch out for the holes in the road on that 50km bad stretch from the border into Poland.

This is why the Poles drive faster in snow.....it fills all the holes in..!

as the road was single lane (at the time) it was difficult to avoid some of them.

i noticed that when it came to overtaking... cars in front pulled over and then rejoined the flow of traffic when those doing the overtaking had passed.

should have mentioned that there was also patchy fog very early in our trip.

anyway, there were plenty of snow ploughs on the roads so it might be better tomorrow.

I was out last night , driving from the local town back to my home , the road has been covered in snow for several days now , and is a bit slippy....

I was driving my Jeep , but i had it in two wheel drive , as the snow was not very deep , and i was getting plenty of grip , or so i thought...!

As i came down a hill out of the town , the ass of the Jeep went waltzing off on its own , and i wound up sliding all over the place , finished up with the nose of the Jeep about ten inches from a large tree...

I drove the rest of the way home in four wheel drive...

Winter appears to be done and dusted, its around +6 right now snows mostly gone - yippee.

On the snow front, Brits love the novelty but after a few years its just a 100% pain in the ass, unless theres some ski resorts around snow sucks donkey balls.

Worse winter in 10,000 years some German said, back in December i would have believed that but thankfully it just wasnt the case.

I give...going to Croatia...

LOL youre still here, weathered the storm another year hey?

Don't say that, i thought it was over last week, then I woke up today to find the mountains are covered in a thick sheet of snow again! I dont mind it that much cos they look stunning but im beginning to get fed up with the roads here. Living in the most expensive county for council tax and the roads are still a mess with pot holes here and pot holes there. make my blood boil and I dont even drive that much!

But don,t get too happy folks... its early days yet....there is still a chance of Siberian weather sneaking up on us....

No worries there one of my locking wheel nuts has rounded the bolt key, i cant get the bugger off at all.

Just been looking through forums actually and it looks as though i'll need to get a nut welded on top of it then try and turn that, what a pain in the ass. I could always leave it in a poor area and im sure the criminals will undo it somehow.

Or they leave the wheels and take the rest ... :D.

No tyre centres in your neck of the woods? I'm sure they can help out.

yes well im in the process of trying to call mercedes to get another key for the other three wheels as the key is rounded, then i'll try a garage tomorrow see if they can weld a nut on or of that fails just drill the kurwa out. This is one tight bolt.

Three nights of -12 to -14 coming up, man its cold down here. Please let this be my last winter in Poland.

^ 3 of the last 4 winters have been almost absent of snow by the end of January, they may start off with a bang but they seem to be fizzling out sooner than pre 2005

I think it is all matter of getting used to the climate. It is very very cold in Siberia and people do live there. It will take a long way before it is cold in Polans as it is cold in Siberia. :)

looks like you guys have a really bitter spell coming up, around a week of -12, getting down to -20 at night in some places. Makes it especially worse that that theres no snow.

Just heard its going to hit -30 over the next few days, na na na na na.

When I arrive back, I'll have gone down nearly 60 degrees in the space of one day. And all my warm clothes are a long, long way from the airport :-(
