Max Burger - better than McDonald's

I can confirm this.

McDonald's

It is for children. You can eat it once in a blue moon if you are an adult or when you are drunk. Don't tell me it was your staple diet?

On my own - occasionally for a coffee when on the road. Also at Warsaw airport where rest of food options are slow and overpriced

But with the kids quite often - it's close to our house

5 days now withoit coke or Pepsi

You actually drink those sugar bombs? Its diabeties in a can. I assume youre not a healthy person if you drink soda everyday.

The last time I ate at MCDonals was when I visited Poland. I wanted to compare and see if there was any difference and it was the same crap. Youre right , mostly kids like it.

Do they have Pizza Hut there yet? Thats the worst too! Nobody in chicago would ever eat one....

On this we agree.

The sugar content varies from country to country according to taste. In the U.K. and Germany, it's lower, in Poland higher, and in Saudi Arabia and America it is high.

For 30 years now however many have closed.

Mostly diet versions but it's still not better. I did have a coke yesterday with some spicy food but in general feel better without it already

Wondering now about music choices - I'm a huge hip hop fan so using spotify is still going to funnel royalties to those artists. Many are sympathetic to Golden Cow or have performed for him. My solution is to stream either dead dudes or more Polish, British and French rap

So this is going well

Halfway through Jan and still no US fast food.

Taking a work break today in a mall I swerved Starbucks and am having frozen yoghurt in Polish owned Yogoland - I doubt it's healthier but certainly cheaper and less of a queue. 7 zloty for a black coffee, I doubt you can find cheaper anywhere in the city

For 30 years now

Must be more than that. I remember going to one in 1995. It was sh!t then too.

So this is going well

I must admit to accidentally buying a bottle of Maker's Mark 46 this week. Or at least to having bought it and then remembering we're buying as little US products as possible. I just couldn't resist it at 15% off. But I have balanced it by also buying six bottles of Scotch and a bottle of Japanese whisky.

Plenty of excellent Canadian Whisky too - I love a Makers Mark especially for a Manhattan but great alternative is Canadian Club (they have it at Dom Whisky) or a good old Chivas Regal

I'm not really a fan these days. I used to really like Japanese whisky but that became too popular and prices went crazy. I used to pay £120 a bottle for Yamazaki 18 year old (admittedly 15 years ago) but now it's 6,000zl a bottle! This week I bought a bottle of Nikka Days and it's very good for the price 2kwodka.pl/whisky-/1426-whisky-nikka-days-07-40-3700597306383.html

If I'm not drinking it straight, I don't bother with anything better than Evan Williams black. Hmm, will need to find an alternative for that too.

It was a hit in the early 90', so I suppose there are still some places you can buy it.

Why don't you stick it up your ... bottom first, you seem to have some issues there.

Gulp down your cheap French wine; you don't need to notify us about the process, unless it keeps you away from alcoholism.
That wine is good for cooking.

True, it's usually overpriced.... except in France.

The Italians are the same, they keep their best wines for local consumption, just export the tat and a few nice wines just to tempt us.
Just like the French and the Spanish.

The best Italian wine I have ever drunk was given to me by an Italian that bought it in Italy. Not available in The UK.

This weekends change - stopped using Uber and now going with Estonian bolt or Polish owned FreeNow

Bolt a good experience so far - seem slightly checker than Uber though I guess lots of drivers are working for both platforms

This week it's been time to stick it to Citibank

I can't move at short notice - too much hassle, but I demanded and got 3 months of zero fees, a permanent reduction in management fees and rold them their new owners (Americans) are not acceptable

Bad news is that I made my first fast food visit of the year - 2 cappuccinos and some onion rings at burger king

But generally going great - huge reduction in Apple, total stop of Chat GPT and X

Apart from a bag of doritos I can't think of one supermarket purchase

Not one grosze on Amazon this month

February will be more difficult - need to start a big reduction in Meta, Google and Netflix

Yikes! I just looked up who owns them now. I really don't want to do business with any firm controlled by an enabler of Taco Don. Fortunately I need to get a new credit card to keep my Airmiles active, so I've applied at Pekao anyway. Will cancel the Citibank credit card, that's the only way they make money off me, my bank accounts there are set to hit the zero fees every month (5k free transfer in one day as a standing order from Alior and then out the next working day as a free standing order to Alior).

Is it just me, or is Amazon utterly sh!t now? The search engine is pants and the products it offers equally bad. And the prices are much higher than Allegro. I thought it would be good to buy cheap things there with the free prime shipping (with Allegro you need to spend 45zl to get the free shipping), but I've noticed that it's usually cheaper to just buy on Allegro and pay for shipping.

need to start a big reduction in Meta, Google and Netflix

I think you might be going a bit far there.
You can effectively make Meta lose money on you by going to accountscenter.facebook.com/ads/ clicking the "Manage info" tab and choosing "less personalised ads" and then always being sure to never click on any adds Meta does show you (just Google the names of any products that might interest you). Also go to accountscenter.facebook.com/info_and_permissions/cookie_settings and turn off cookies. It's amazing what a difference those changes make.
Netflix I think we can use, as they're the enemy of supporters of Trump.
As for Google, are you going to stop using your phone?

@Lazarus
Thanks - will try that with Meta.

It's unfortunate that retailers and food products tend to get hit hardest by boycotts as they are rarely the real bad guys compared to financiers, oil and tech (the real backers of Golden Cow). It's far easier to sub a new brands of snacks than to stop using search engines.

For Google my strategy will be

- less YouTube (other clip sharing sites are available like Daily Motion which is French)
- use Mistral for search where practical
- haggle with them far more about keywords for business - the thread from AI search has made them far more amenable to negotiate

With Meta I moved Instagram off the app and into browser which makes it far harder to advertise. Unfollowed many American accounts - mainly sports and vapid models.

WhatsApp is a tough one but will move some people to Viber

Interesting developments with Amazon's cloud service. They have started a Europe based business for those concerned about digital sovereignty- great idea but nerds are pointing out that it will still fall under US jurisdiction, which is a problem given Golden Cow's, complete corruption of the US justice process.

But European cloud providers are growing at a huge rate and will reduce Amazon below 30 percent market share In Europe in 3-5 years

Interesting developments with Amazon's cloud service.

Have you seen the news about Amazon hooking all the Ring doorbell cameras they sold up to Flock, which is a system that Taco Don's masked snatch squads can access? That could really hit their business in that field as suddenly products from competitors become far more attractive.

Have you seen the news about Amazon

No I hadn't read that but not surprised. Big Tech has been looking for use cases for all their data and aiding state violence fits the profile.

Went for a few drinks last night and knowing that often leads to me smoking cigarettes I got a pack - big mistake as realized that Winstons broke my boycott. I will be more careful.

But it's remarkable how closely correlated US commercial interest interests are with addictions. Social media dopamine hits, fast food, caffeine, whisky, tobacco, sugary snacks. So boycotting or reducing reliance on the US helps our organism in so many ways.

Trying to think of well made American stuff I own that is not addictive - I can think of my Leatherman wave, Timex Ironman watch, Old Bay seasoning, Redwing boots. After that I'm struggling

When you show an American a triangle, they'll call it a Dorito. When you show them a circle, they'll call it an Oreo. Most of them just don't know any better. Sadly, Poles are not far ahead.

When you show an American a triangle,

Stereotypes aren't arguments. They're what people use when they don't have one.

Sadly, Poles are not far ahead.

Judging by that post, you're not ahead at all.
