Fascism

Today I heard the term "US Gestapo" for the first time on German television. I think you know who I mean.

So I am sticking it to the US imperialists

McDonalds started messaging me with offers - they obviously noticed I'm not going any more

Fight the power !

Only one fast food this week so far - "Chinese" from a dodgy Viet place on outskirts of town. Edible but wouldn't win any prizes and certainly worse tasting than Macs

worse tasting than Macs

That must have been really distasteful.

Some of those can be quite nice.

If there's a branch of Pasibus near you (mostly in shopping centres), they're pretty ok.

Yeah I like that. Max Burger (swedish) is also good but pricy

They are well-connected with the American left. Wait for another term, Trump's Gestapo.

The Gestapo is good. No LGBTs or purple hair.

All they need is the correct list. The one they used needs some serious editing.

Various top Nazis such as SA head Ernst Roehm were gay, you realize.
Drug addiction among the rank and file was common as well.
Merely to set the record straight.

The distance between being gay and a flaming, pride-parade azzhole is like from here to Pluto.

I bet Ernst didn't dye his hair blue, green, and purple...

Saudi investors are involved; the have Max Burger there and like it.

Proctor and Gamble are quite big in Poland however there are generally good alternatives.

No, Rich, that's true.
Yet it still is/was an abomination!

Well, apropos, outsourcing's what killed the US economy post Reagan!
Less production here at home, more reliance on foreign goods and services.
No-brainer, dude.
We see the reverse is true in Europe as well.

more reliance on foreign goods and services.

One problem in Poland is that there are European companies which are partly owned by American private equity companies.

Found a solution to the Audiobook problem - Empik way cheaper for Polish language than Apple / Audible and Spiracle, UK company, will come in about 60 percent of what I pay Apple for English language titles (though the choice is far smaller, there is still plenty to listen to ).

Overall I will save probably 1000 zloty a year. like Finchy I am a "book a week" person

Tim Cook and Jeff Bezos are having a FAFO moment LOL - I will be sure to publicize that to all my audiobook loving friends

If the shoe fits....lol

You could always move to Europe and see how much better you will be off?

Ill bet you will move back after one year.

As I just posted a moment or so ago, higher taxes and inbred xenophobia just aren't an attraction.

A year???

I went there in 2019 and was on the way back home in three days instead of the planned 6 weeks.

Twice, I had a chance to visit my brother in France, but I didn't because French is not the same as English...Fvck it...I don't need this grief...

Had you decided to speak French, just think of the worlds that would have opened up for you, Rich!
You would have COMMUNICATED instead of approximated what you wanted to express.

Sign and body language is not universal and showing someone the middle finger only goes so far.
Novichok  6 | 10780

someone the middle finger only goes so far.

I trained the guy who operates Brown's Chicken close to where I live to understand my sign language when I want 2 breasts to go.

It takes 2 fingers and, then, the thumb pointing toward the door.

I couldn't discuss Plato that way, but it sure puts food on my table.
Lyzko  48 | 10380

'Course there's also the ol' middle ground.
Novichok  6 | 10780
10 Jan 2026   #56
You mean between Plato and 2 pieces of chicken to go?

You are right...It's just a matter of frequency and usefulness.
Lyzko  48 | 10380
10 Jan 2026   #57
Right on!

See Rich, I can still remember the
all too
rapid demise of the erstwhile "Cafe Society" around the end of the mid-sixties, when stock brokers and school teachers could chat at an Upper East Side soiree, regardless of the chasmic divide in earnings, and yet enjoy some seemimgly endless cultured conversation over a nice Beaujolais.
Alien  30 | 7666

nice Beaujolais.

Usually young and cheap French wine, was it even possible to buy it in the USA at that time?

You're missing the point, Alien.

The point is that once, high class living was available to most New Yorkers of all classes.
One needn't have been a millionaire to live as one.

5 days now withoit coke or Pepsi

Only one fast food visit - donuts and cappucino at Max Burger with my son yesterday - better than Trump funders McDonald's

This week's task - podcasts. Turns out most of my favorites are on Spotify so I can probably ditch or reduce the Apple app and Overcast. But what about the content ? At the moment I'm listening to a Bloomberg pod - need to give that some thought
