Which services is Poland still waiting for?

Searching for info for another thread, Let`s compare prices of services and products in Poland

I came across the offer of UK campsites.

Polish campsites seem typical - you can rent a wooden cabin, pitch your own tent or come with a trailer or in camper.
mazury.info.pl/cezar

Standard!

UK has more to offer. I especially like those yurta tents - must be funny to spend a night in. My kids would love it. Or even better - tipis!!

Shiet, before such offers appear in Poland, my boys will be grown ups. Or not? :):):):):)

But it doesn`t matter - they will do such things with their own children, fulfilling their own childhood dreams.

when I go to a restaurant, and I want a simple glass of water, (from the tap is fine because I am parched) the server thinks I must be crazy and insists that I pay 3-4zł for a 200ml bottle of Kropla Beskidu. :/

How about instigating a bottle deposit on all plastic drink bottles, tetra packs, glass bottles of beverages??? Germany seems to make it work. It would keep millions of millions of bottles out of the trash. And create some employment opportunities for the less fortunate.

200ml bottle

Those bottles, be they filled with coke, water, whatever, are the bane of my existence. I'd rather walk up and down Krakow's endless slopes on my bum knee than be thirsty and have one of those puny bottles put before me. Oh, tiny bottle, how I loathe thee!

Yes, very good idea.

In 1970s and 80s there were bottle banks. But bottles were made of glass.

They're mostly recycled, that's what trash segregation is for.

I would like to see organic waste containers provided by city councils. Like in Germany.

At the present time, Poland is no different in principle nothing rozwiąnich technology from Western Europe. In Poland you can buy everything what is also available in the west.

True in case of goods and products.

However, we are talking mainly about services here.

Hostels are pretty much nonexistent outside of Krakow and Warsaw.

Maybe there's reason for that.

You mean not enough interest?
Whenever i travel to Szczecin the only one, which is not even a real one, is always booked out.

Probably you`re right.

Do you mean youth hostels, btw???

Hostels are not necessarily for youth only.
I myself am not exactly the target group, neither budget nor age wise, myself, but i still prefer staying in hostels to an anonymous hotel chain sometimes.

But yes, i mean those with cheap bunkbeds, communal area etc..

If so, yes, you are right, apart from two or three major cities, hostels are pretty non-existent here.

Non-existent? I dunno. How about PTTK as well?

You should ask the Guy behind ' Nathans Villa's ' why he had to close down so many of his units.

Nice link. But I clicked on Małopolska hostels and checked the first two from the list - they are a virtual reality joke, not real hostels.

Or you might need to call them to make enquiries. I have used such hostels many times, the last time was in Bydgoszcz about a year ago. I can't accept that you don't know what a "schronisko młodzieżowe" is. Unless there are two Pawians on PF and you're not the one I have in mind... ;-)

Magda, I know the term.
But the problem of hostels was raised by a poster called Berni. He probably talked about his own travelling experience.
Now I am checking the first five hostels from the Małopolska list for their Internet contact and there is none. So there must be sth wrong with them.

And with current development of IT technologies, if they are not on the Net, they simply don`t exist. Even if they exist, they are not too professional.

Some in the first five on the list have active websites, some don't. This continues all the way down the list. This doesn't mean there is anything wrong with them. It only means they are cheap hostels, usually attached to schools, and don't much concern themselves with webmastering and suchlike. There is a lot of other contact info available.

Unfortunately most of those are still remnants of the past.
Very basic and cheap accommodation, but no atmosphere whatsoever and the location is mostly terrible aswell.

Actually i met him during the 5th Krakow birthday and the Krakow branch was doing excellent.
Although i wasnt even aware they had any hostels beside Warsaw and Krakow.

Exactly, that's what hostels are, isn't it? Otherwise you go to a hotel. Though sometimes you can have your cake and eat it too:

hostelorange.pl/trn/pl/zobacz.htm
trzykafki.pl/noclegi/hostel-oferta
okidoki.pl/wp/lang/en/
baltichostel.com.pl

I could go on.

Nope, hostels are about meeting people. Thats why i didnt mention PTTF. They have no communal area, no internet, no bar etc.. All you can do there is sleep and for that i would use a hotel.

hostels are about meeting people.

For most people hostels are about cheap accommodation, I daresay. Nevertheless, I was just fooling around on google with "hostel + name of city" and it seems that there is a lot of hostels out there in Poland, nice ones, with atmosphere, not the old-fashioned and slightly scuffed PTTK-type ones. I posted some links above.

You obviously havent been out of Poland much or you would know that its not about a cheap bed only. In most of them you dont even get to sleep. ;)

Most of those in Poland are modeled after the PTTK and thats what the topic is about: "Which services is Poland still waiting for?"

There are notable exemptions, but like i already said they are limited to Krakow and Warsaw.

Have you checked any of the links I posted? Hostel Orange and so on? If you had, you wouldn't be saying that.

I already said that there are notable exceptions, but its nowhere close to the rest of Europe.
On the other hand Poland isnt usually on the gap year itinerary, at least not like Amsterdam, Barcelona or Rome.

Either way, you can't say hostels don't exist in Poland. ;-)
They do, and have, since before WW2.

doesn`t equal

Hostels are pretty much nonexistent

:):):)

Ok,let`s say: there are some hostels in Poland but far too few and we still have to wait for their development, especially in remote areas,
Magdalena 3 | 1,837
20 Dec 2012 #210
It's almost the same thing ;-P

"Almost nonexistent" = there are maybe several.
In the scale of a country that equals "don't exist".

BTW, earlier on you wrote there was only one hostel in Szczecin; I found three without really looking:

cityhostel.com.pl
hostelarbet.pl
firlik.com.pl
