I just bought one for my wife before disembarking from the States, and I'm reading there might not be much she can do with it, regarding purchases from the Amazon store. Anyone have a similar device or issue?

You mean not much in Polish ? I read not so long ago that the number of these Kindles sold in Poland has been around 70k so not that many indeed... so probably the amount of available content is not that great but there must be something... generally for Poles the idea of paying for any electronic content is a big turn off, It's internet so it should be for free... so with this business model, they won't get many clients here anytime soon.

Ah, well. If I have to, I guess I'll just pirate mp4's and transfer them to her Kindle. I just bought a LeapPad 2 for my kid, too, which also runs it's apps off the Amazon shop. THAT I don't know how to work around.

Could you try a proxy change
I use overplay all the time so I can watch Irish and uk tele stream, matches etc. I'm sure if you use it you'll be able to access the yankee or british amazon sites.

Just change your IP with it and then connect the Kindle and the US or UK market should work.

Maybe look for a trial version of some similar software first though so you don't have to fork out the couple of dollars a month.

I used to use it to watch Netflix and use Spotify too...but Spotify has been launched in Poland now so that OK, plus Netflix isn't all that good.
