Once Poland needs workers, immigration can help fill that void.

Good luck with that, because all European nations (not to forget the USA, Canada and Australia) want these people and Poland has to face a keen competition. The difficult language and the reputation of ex-communist countries in the west are also not very helpful in this respect. Poland is heading in the right direction, but I believe that the country needs a few more decades of development before it can seriously think about competing for highly skilled immigrants.

This is true. I'm American but if I had to move to Europe, it would definitely be western Europe.

I'm against today's expression of "Multi-culturalism" because it ignores the root problem of native people's BEING FORCED TO LEAVE THEIR HOMELAND in search of a better life. The problem is that they have No Options at Home and that's the real problem. Importing the problem is not the solution-it's a band aid.

And that's the problem, when so many people are exploited, they're going to want to get out. The solution is to do what's right and improve life for people there not just pretend colour is the deciding issue- it isn't.

Come on, Poland doesn`t need spoiled highly skilled immigrants from the West who will always remain doubtful about their choice and will leave the very moment they get a better salary somewhere else, be it Fiji Islands or Belarus.

Poles are skilled enough. I just talked to an ex-student of mine who is studying biotechnology at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. She told me that Western Erasmus exchange students are amazed at the high quality of biotech faculty in Poland, e.g., lab classes in German universities start in the third year, while Polish students have them in the first year.

What we need is poor but persevering immigrants who are ambitious enough to have a better life than they had in their native countries. Even if they don`t become highly skilled professionals, their children will one day. And they will feel Polish.

They only thing they need is a warm welcome in Poland.

Poland is actually an attractive place for people in the former eastern block and 3rd world countries. It may not be a perfect country but at least it is safe and finding clean drinking water is not a problem. I read an article in a polish newspaper about the increasing number of ukrainian students who choose to study in a polish uni and look forward to remaining in Poland post grad.

Yes, safety is important. I feel safer in Poland today than I felt in US in 1990s.
