How's the life of an LGBT person in Poland?

Look Dude if you're a gay and that it, you should be just fine as long as you're not a loud obnoxious in your face type of a person or some LGBT xYX activist.

If you're the type you should be fine too but most people won't like you and some will tell to F O!

@Atch
What is with you and your ageism?

No more, no less, and that is what they do in my experience.

Seems to me that your experience is rather limited.

Nobody should be afraid to show his sexuality in any modern society.

What do you mean? It sounds wreid.

It was not intented as weird. LBGT are perfectly entitled to e.g. holding hands in public like any hetero couple.

I have nothing against gay people, but I think they should be sensitive to the sensibilities of others, especially in front of Children.
I think most of them are and this applies to hetero couples too.
Many people are still offended by overt sexuality in public.
But the Gay haters I ask you this.....If your son or daughter comes to you and tells you they are gay.
Do you love them any less?

Are you sure you're not a preacher? Seems to me you progeressive lot at least some of you missed your calling when you renouced religion. Now, you are trying to preach your new morality. I don't like your kind of fanatism.

By the way your mussings about your German white man burden kind of complex was quite reviling and amusing aswell,

.If your son or daughter comes to you and tells you they are gay.

There are no gay women. Only the ugly ones no man wants. And those who claim to be gay to be edgy.
Little darlings flip out when their parents are not proper and cool. They swear, curse, tell their parents how much they hate them and resort to violence when at 16 they can't date a 30-something guy, or discover that daddy is dating their friend's mom. Take it from here to answer your own question.

Are you for real?
No,probably not......

No, I am simply rational. There is no rational argument why LBGT should not enjoy those things. Unless you believe that holding hands is simply inappropiate and should not be done by hetero couples in the open as well.

By the way your mussings about your German white man burden kind of complex was quite reviling and amusing aswell,

I wish it was amusing, but unfortunately it is the reality of things. This has nothing to do with ethicity and nationality, it is simply the consequence of Eastern Europe having lived under dictatorships until fairly recently. It is only to be expected that those societies need time to mature.
Rich Mazur 4 | 3,053

...and make Warsaw like San Francisco.
Don't you think Poles should be shown what that 'mature' place looks like before they start their happy journey to maturity? And while you are at it, throw in some stats like gay life span and their suicide rates. Don't forget to mention something about AIDS, how it is contracted, what it does and much it costs to stay alive. I am sure Poles will be grateful.

Not sure how anyone can claim maturity on a country which gives over proportionally a voice to a tiny minority who are being bred out and are largly on the edge of society and really of no use to the long term benefits of any coutry. Not sure what would be mature about puting a d..k up my butt? Oh that's right, nothing.

After reading all the responses here, I can conclude that there is more hate in Poland than support. I see 70% of the guys or girls in this thread are anti lgbt and only 30% of them are supportive. This scares even to come out to people as they might start hating me or even abusing me.

I'm not the person who is very out and too obviously gay. I never hold hands in public nor show any PDA.. Well, as a human I expect people not to abuse me or attack me just that i don't fit in their general hetero stereotype. I expect people to accept me the way iam.

This seriously makes me think of continuing my life in Poland after my education or maybe I'll not.

Well the first thing is the opinion on here has little to do with Poland as most people here don't live there at all. Why would you want to count support as you have done above 30% or 70% or fear abuse? I doubt there would be any after all it's your business. The problem only comes when you force that onto other people, the life style and all. The backlash these days is silent, you dont get the order or job or contract but you don't know why.

It also depends on where you are planning on living. Since you wish to study there, you probably intent to love in one of the bigger city, which are usually more progressive. Slupsk has even a gay mayor.

How about the Vatican City? They are all gay there.

People think being gay in Poland will be some horror, is that actually zionist or kraut propaganda? For a start there is no religious nuts in Poland of the variety that throw gays of roofs, they live next door where unemployment benefits are much higher.

Please note that the hate here is coming from people who do not live in Poland (I think some of them have never been in Poland) and those who do live in Poland are saying the same thing: It's not Germany but it's a lot better than Russia (for example) and headed in the direction of Germany rather than Iran.

I've known a fair amount of gay people in Poland who have no problems whatsoever.

There are lots of reasons for a person to study or not study in Poland but concern about assault for being gay is not really one of them.

Bud, i have some good news for you. All the hate you just saw here, you will see in any other topic on this forum. This forum LEAST represents actual life in Poland.

Most hate you got from Mr Rich Mazur who is if anything, a complete bigot who doesnt live in Poland and has not for a long, long time.

As a foreigner that has actually lived in Gdansk i can tell you, ignore this forum, you will absolutely be fine. If you want you can send me a message and im sure i can find you someone from the Tricity LGBT community to talk to and voice your concerns.

p.s. short stab @ Rich - we're currently at a point of overpopulation that a good part of non-reproductive LGBT's would actually do the planet good. But as your "fake" life you've invented on here has stated, you're a 70+ year old pensioner in America. Too late to change your mind, but you'll die soon. All will be well.

I warned you didn't I Adidasboy! I told you this place was full of trolls, weirdos etc. Listen to your Auntie Atch and you won't go wrong :))

It basically started as a forum for Polish-Americans to learn more about the culture of Poland and as Maf said most of them not only don't live in Poland, some have never even been there. In recent times it's attracted a lot of slightly mad people who either have or pretend to have, extreme right wing views so their comments are in no way to be taken seriously. There are plenty of gay people in Poland living happy, productive lives.

There may well be things about Poland that make you decide not to live there after you finish your studies, but your sexuality is likely to be just somewhere on a long list of other more pressing concerns. Who knows you might even meet Mr Right there :)) So don't listen to all that rubbish from a bunch of old miseries and enjoy life.

I just googled "gay Gdansk" and there's loads of stuff there for you to read which will be far more useful and relevant to you than this forum (apparently it's a very small gay scene and that bar in Sopot is not very nice :( I really feel sorry for gay guys because it must be hard to meet somebody in the 'normal' way because you unless you go to a specifically gay venue (and there are loads of gays who are non-scene), you're just hoping that somebody you meet on the off-chance either socially or through work, will also be gay. I suppose you could consider a gay dating/friendship site so that you could connect with other gay people around Poland without having to go to the bar in Sopot. It's probably closed in the winter anyway as it's on the beach and Gdansk in the winter is not a tropical Paradise! I would suggest that after you arrive in Poland and get settled, you should start searching via internet for the gay network around your area. Even if you contact those people in Poznan who organize the Gay Pride event, they're bound to know other gay people all over Poland and maybe they could get you an introduction into the gay community in your area through one of their friends in the neighbourhood.

But if you're looking for practical information about things like cost of living in Poland etc you'll find plenty of threads on this forum to help you. Best of luck!

@Adidasboy

I am sure you are discreet about your sexuality in India. If you do the same in Poland you will be fine.
The strange looks you may get will have nothing to do with your sexuality and everything to do with your skin complexion.
Non whites are still fairly rare in many parts of Poland.
Atch 22 | 4,127
24 Aug 2018 #52
@Adidasboy, once again, press the 'ignore' button. I actually live in Poland and there will be no 'strange looks'. The above poster is just trolling.

Polish who live in cities such as Gdansk are well used to seeing brown or even black faces. Any city in Poland with a university or an IT industry will have a population of people from the Indian sub-continent.

Many years ago a friend of mine was on a bus in Krakow with a friend of his.
When an African gentleman got on and sat close to them.
My friends friend made a slightly rude comment about the African in Polish.
Only for the African gentleman to turn to him and tell him off in perfect Polish!

Thank you so much for the support. I'm looking forward to have a great time in Gdansk :)

@Miloslaw

I don't mind the stares I might get because of my skin color as this would be there in any white people's country... so it won't be a big deal to me..
Atch 22 | 4,127

I don't mind the stares I might get

Well Polish people do actually have a tendency to stare but not because of skin colour particularly. They frequently stare at me and I'm white and not in any way peculiar looking, just average :) They definitely don't particularly stare at brown or black people though, not in the cities and tourist areas and when you think about it, why would you want to go anywhere else? I mean, there's no reason for you to visit a remote village somewhere in the back of beyond so I don't imagine anyone will stare at you.

Funnily enough, I've just arrived home after being out and about in Warsaw and there were two Indian guys in the supermarket waiting at the checkout in front of me, then I saw them again as I was walking to the tram. I can categorically state that nobody stared at them. As I once said elsewhere on this forum, the only time I saw somebody actually stop to stare at another person with eyes popping out on stalks, was when there was a guy with a moustache walking round the supermarket wearing a woman's skirt - and quite frankly I think the staring can be excused in that case :D

When Poles first started coming to The UK there were some problem between Poles and Indians.
But as time moved on and they got to know each other better they got on fine, even learning words of each other's languages.(Mainly the bad words!)

It's just the initial shock of something new and unknown and works both ways.
In time both sides learn that we are all the same deep down despite our differences.
Atch 22 | 4,127

there were some problem between Poles and Indians

@Adidasboy, not true. It's just more trolling. For Indians in the UK meeting a non-British white person would be quite normal, not new and shocking, as there were already literally millions of other Europeans living in the UK even back then. As for the Poles, they may have given the brown faces they encountered in the UK a few looks, as Poles at that time hadn't met many people of other races and many of the first wave of Polish immigrants came from small towns and villages. Different story in Poland 2018.

Basically don't take any notice of people on this forum or elsewhere who try to put doubts or worries in your mind about your safety or well-being in Poland as either a gay person or an Indian. You'll be fine.
Miloslaw 19 | 4,925
24 Aug 2018 #60
You are a bit strange.
I was not trolling, simply trying to reassure Adidasboy that any friction soon dissolves.
I was there,I saw it,I heard The Poles refer to Indians as "Kropek" and Indians calling Poles "Ben Chod".There were even a couple of scuffles at first. But they all get on fine now and Poles that have come in since that first batch don't have a problem because they have already been told by The Poles here before them that The Indians are OK.

But continue to live in your dream world if you like.
