Polish people and racism.

being Polish myself i feel kind of uneasy about admitting that we are racist, sad but true.

And I've got no problems with admitting that we are not racists.

Some are, some aren't. Poland is more racist than ur 'average' country I'd say.

first of all, the IQ part was just an answer to a post which is quite old. Someone was claiming that Turkish people have I average of 70-80 something like that. So, it was not an insult to my fellow citizens.

some people claim a lot of things here, which does not mean anything.

Anyway, about the junk part. I personally believe, if someone is immigrating to another country to live there and may be live there for generations,

that was not the original plan for Turkish workers in Germany, so they ended up in the limbo.

For example, i am in Canada now for my education and i am learning and obeying the rules of this place. Not out of fear from being discriminated, but out of respect.

If you are studying in Canada you need to follow the rules. Canada is famous for social order and you would not survive in the system if you didn't. So it is a smart thing on your part and s self preservation technique.

i agree, but it is obvious that they are not the best specimen to observe and have an idea about all the Turks.

most people are aware of that.

And yes, may be i do not have enough knowledge about the case, Miranda, thanks for the link, i am going to look into it.

I am glad to be helpful but I still find it a little bit strange that I have to defend your countrymen;)

Poland is more racist than ur 'average' country I'd say.

Prove It.

Not possible to prove to your satisfaction. I agree that it is more racist than the average and I base that on my experience in many countries. Of course most Poles will deny this....not surprising at all.

Greg, most honest Poles will tell u as much. Grab some amyl nitrate and crack it open, it may help

So how is that ? Provide some facts.

There is the problem..those that deny it are either not honest or actually believe their behavior is ok.

I know several Poles that have no problem admitting racism is a common problem here....

Provide some facts.

Like I said that isn't possible to your standard. I can tell tales of my experiences and things I have witnessed as well as things my friends have seen and experienced. In fact I have....but that won't matter a bit to you or those like you.

You want some sort of chart with scientific studies...

Greg, I could disagree with it if I wanted to. I'm not gonna conduct any empirical research to go validating my opinion. It wasn't meant as an attack. We have many racist people in Scotland.

Deal with it, I know that Poland is less racially tolerant than many other countries. Why is it so hard to accept?
gtd 3 | 639
8 Nov 2008 #400
Because as I have mentioned time and time again Poles in general have a problem with ego. They refuse to accept that they have any shortcomings and are pretty aggressive when anyone suggests such a thing.

I don't hate Poles or Poland but this aspect of the culture really is frustrating.

Note I didn't say EVERYONE is like this but most are in my experience and that of most people I know.

have witnessed as well as things my friends have seen and experienced. In fact I have....but that won't matter a bit to you or those like you.

But you see, there is a problem of stating something like "Poles are more racist than the average country." First of all, what constitutes an 'average' country.

And secondly, if you're speaking from mere experience, or from your friends experiences, the probability of you or them having visited every country in the world to be able to judge for certain are very slim.

Deal with it, I know that Poland is less racially tolerant than many other countries

You're provoking him. Why not say I believe Poland is less racially tolerant? Do you really know for a fact that this is true?

How is that ? Did I ask for any scientific studies ?

I know exactly how this will go and there is no sense. I am quite confident based on your past behaviors and posts that nothing I can say would serve to convince you of what we are saying.

If anything it will become another typically Polish argument where the minutiae is nitpicked to try and deflect and avoid the point. See the post above yours for an example.

I agree gtd, there is an inbuilt defensiveness here which limits the potential for rational debate.

Filios, u know what we mean. If an in-depth study were to be conducted into the incidence of racism across the world, I bet my life savings that Poland would be in the top 25%.

There are racist people in Scotland and in Poland, but don't forget, there are plenty of anti-European racists in Pakistan, in Turkey, in sub-Saharan Africa, etc., etc., etc. White, ethnic Europeans do not have the monopoly on racism. These days, white Europeans are frequently the victims of racial hatred and violence - sometimes in their own countries!

Really ? So I say that USA and UK are the most racist nations in thw world but I'm not going to provide any explanations because that won't convince you anyway... Come on, If you say something than back It up.
gtd 3 | 639
8 Nov 2008 #407
As I have said repeatedly I will not be able to convince you anyway. My experience and that of everyone I know who has been to Poland and many other places in the world backs it up for me just fine thanks. I am under no obligation to convince you.

In fact the reactions from the Polish members in the last minutes prove what I said above...you can't admit a fault without deflecting and being aggressive.
Seanus 15 | 19,672
8 Nov 2008 #408
Yeah, that's true. However, there may never be a monopoly on racism. We are discussing proportions and deflection doesn't serve a useful purpose here.

Eh, maybe because we have soldiers from different European countries there. How many Pakistani soldiers do u c in Poland or any other European country for that matter?
gtd 3 | 639
8 Nov 2008 #409
Seanus Eva's reply is typical in that it doesn't take responsibility yet simply deflects or says "but look other people do it too!!!" like that makes it ok.

I still stand by and agree with you that Poland would be in the top quarter if it could be scientifically validated.

Prosze pani, as far as I know white people are always treated as angels in non white countries, and if You doubt it then go on world tour to experience it first hand ;)

Its only white people (racist ones) who claim that they are Genetically Superior Human Being! - White pride world wide :D

Cool... One potential reply to a post like this could be "so shut the f*ck up, you damn moron"... but I ask politly... so please tell us, what is your experience and that of everyone you know who has been to Poland ?

Eh, maybe because we have soldiers from different European countries there. How many Pakistani soldiers do u c in Poland or any other European country for that matter?

Where ? The only time the Polish soldiers were in Pakistan was when they were helping after the earthquake.

Filios, u know what we mean

So? You do not have the credentials to be able to back up your statement that Poland is more racist than the average country. You have no statistics, nor have you visited every 'average' country to know for certain.

This...

bet my life savings that Poland would be in the top 25%.

... does not constitute support.

I myself, havn't visited every country in the world, and I'm not one to judge. Have I encountered racism in Poland? Yes, I have. Have I encountered racism in Greece? Yes. Hungary? Yes. Bulgaria? Yes....

I've never been to the U.S, but I went to school in the UK, and I encountered a lot of racists there, too. How can I judge, for certain, that Poland is more racist than any other country?

Is it so hard for you guys to 'get it' that without any verifiable support, your arguments are like a fart in the breeze?

You two are discussing proportions, but the thread in general is devoted to "Polish people and racism". It doesn't serve anyone well to target one population as racist.

As for Pakistani soldiers, they are needed within their own borders. Unfortunately, at the moment, they don't appear to be very effective even there!

This is a forum about Poland. We are talking about Poland. You are attempting to change the focus...it is common here (I live in Poland). Oversensitivity is another issue.

i'd pretty much agree with that, it's rather obvious when you look at people's facial expressions when they see a black person passing by... but then like Eva_K said the same happens to white people in Asia or Africa. no point denying it.

How many asian or african countries have You travelled to so far?

Sure..but there are lots of places you can go and it doesn't matter at all...people don't even notice you just based on color generally. That is what we are getting at.

And I don't think you disagree overall so not trying to start something with you. God knows that is a losing battle ;)

Adding to the dimension of a discussion is not changing, but enhancing it. Keeping a tight focus on Poles as racist becomes persecutorial. It's limiting and, dare I say, intolerant.

Thanks Justysia. I'm just trying to be objective based on what I hear and read. My own personal take is that Poland is no worse than Spain, Italy and Germany and is (highly) probably less racist than Northern Ireland and Israel.

Britain also has strong, lingering BNP types

When 20% of the country is for example non-white It's not surprising that majority got used to that... but If there are very few of such people then It's natural that they atract attention but what the hell does It have to do with racism ? If somebody was for example walking on the street dressed like a Polish nobleman in the 17th century, people would stare at him too.
