I recently have been looking into modern music coming out of Poland, and honestly I am liking what I am hearing so far. I recently found Sobel and was curious if there are any recommendations you all may have?!
Well, Sobell is not exactly to my personal taste but for Rich (Novichock) to compare him to "Banging frying pans" is just ridiculous. Here is one of his songs, please tell me if you think he sounds like "Banging frying pans".
Another song by them from the same album.... I remember my Polish teacher told me that it's not about Africa at all, but Poland and Polish people...
My quick translation of the lyrics:
Violence is everywhere, violence is in you Violence is in me, violence has always been there Violence will always be, violence violence was in you Violence was in me, you know the law and rules You can't do anything about it I have to manage it for myself Still for many days Still for many years Everything will have a bitter taste Treachery is everywhere
Something very, very funny I discovered recently is that the 'Polish music' page on Wikipedia doesn't contain a SINGLE mention of discopolo. Not one: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Poland
Huge swathes of the country listen to this farmer pop dreck all the time - to me, it's synonymous with 'Polish music' - but no mention of it here? How does that work?
To me, this is another great example of the highly selective nature of Poland's national PR campaign. It's "so safe and clean" but they don't mention the football hooligan graffiti decorating the walls of every city or the fact that that the mafia and corrupt police have created a very lucrative industry out of spiking foreign visitors' drinks and draining their bank accounts. As usual, the image Poland proudly (some would say snottily) presents to the world is VASTLY different from the reality.
Ok, now I will get a bit sentimental 😁 You know when there is that one song that is played constantly and everyone knows it, whether they like it or not? One of such songs was "Księżycowa piosenka":
]
For my teenage years and first heartbreaks LZY created a soundtrack:
"Niebieska sukienka" is one of the songs that have very personal memories for me:
"Agnieszka" on the other hand was sung at almost all drunk parties at one time:
It reminded me of the fact That knowing more than one language can be confusing at times. The other day I watched a TV Show about France and there was a sign for Miele(Honey) et Cere..... I couldn't think what Cere was, even though I am pretty fluent in French and kept thinking of cheese...ser in Polish,it later transpired that Cere is beeswax,obvious when you think about it!
In your first video they often said bych which means to be or would, but it sounds just like the English word B1tch..... LOL!
I have some 1960's Polish bands for you tonight.TBH, these band were mainly before my time,and I know nothing about them, but I think they were pretty good and worth a post.
My last post tonight is from a band that I know quite well.And this is good.Next time I will post on this thread it will be slightly more modern stuff.
