With that salary paying anything more than 1100 ZL for housing would be overkill.
Find a room in an Apt. or something instead and pay like 800 ZL.

As an expat in Poland, living for anything below 2000ZL after rent etc. is quiet low. You will live a decent live though with 2000, but that's also around the minimun.

I just moved here myself earlier December and living out in Malta... Very beautiful area indeed.

I make a bit more then you and are paying 1500 PLN for my apartment which is 1 bedroom with separate kitchen/living room and bathroom, fully furnished.

There are more available apartments in my building that are a little bit cheaper so if you want you can send me a PM and I will give you details to the agency who handled my apartment.

It's in fact a very nice town to live, most people speak English and it's small enough to walk everywhere... If you are like me and enjoy walking.

2000 zloty would actually give you a big house for that. Strange though because when I look on oferty or domy the prizes in Poznan are much lower.

Poznań is not very big city.

City is only half a million but agglomeration is something around 1 mln... just saying...

That may be true, but it is nowhere near as it is made out to be or as bad as it used to be years ago... In terms of architecture and feel, these 3 would be my favourite parts of the city. Try any of the Ataner buildings scattered across town and you should be safe, as there are foreigners living there, including students of the medical programme thought in English, which could offer some chances if you ever wanted to chat in English.

You will find at least a couple of vegetarian, cheap but decent bars where mostly the students eat. But overall, PL is a meat lovers' country.

I would really say no. Because if you rent a room instead of a flat, 800-1000zl/ Month, 500zl food and 100zl travelling in krakow and the reset do whatever you want! i think many people even survive with less than that in Poland/ Krakow, don't they?

1800 should be enough for two. Look for rent by word of mouth: clubs, churches etc. Lubon is a good location for good transport and cheaper rent and groceries.

i have a quick question. i have done some research, but wanted answers based off my numbers. i am a american that got offered a job for 4000 PLN gross a month, 2800 net. i am single, no kids and wondering if this will be enough to live on my own. i don't go out much, and i am a conservative shopper. is this a good salary to start from? thank you

Basically not worth coming to Poland for that little. Factor in airfare and the fees for your residence permit, and you're not going to have much of an existence.

As Dominic rightly says, that's a low wage, especially for a foreigner. People do have to live on that, however not always very well. To illustrate, Pb98 gasoline is $6.86 per US Gallon (5-something pln a litre), a Big Mac Meal is about 15 pln, the cost of finding somewhere decent to live might surprise you (a very small apartment with bills would take at least half your salary) and one of the benefits of being in Poznan (travel) would be compromised, since you'd be on a very tight budget.

Having said that, you don't say how old/young you are, why you want to come to PL and what sort of work you're talking about. If you want to experience a new country, perhaps spend only a year here or do the job as a stepping stone to another one and don't mind being very careful with money and/or sharing an apartment, it might not be a bad idea.

I am an Indian guy who is planning to move to Poznan. at the moment i am in UK and working for a IT company. they are planning to send me to Poznan on deputation for couple of years.

I have looked at this forum threads and i have got some information on Poznan itself. however i am still confused about the community in Poznan.

can you please help me out in understanding below.

1. Is there any Indian community living in Poznan. if yes, is there any specific locations.
i have started to learn Polish, but my wife doesn't. so until she learn basics of polish, i would like to see if there are places where Indians live and probably stay there.

2. what is the Average cost for one bed room apartment ( range should be ok). i am looking for some area around Grunwaldzka. something like 10-15mins walk. is this area safe to live.

3. i usually work late and travel home around 8-10PM, is this safe in these areas, as long as i keep to myself on my way back. Usually i do not like to ask these questions because no matter which country you are in even in UK, you need to be careful and avoid certain times and certain areas. hence i am trying to get an understanding on those kind of areas which i should avoid and things not to do.

4. i have been buying few things from Polish shops in London. they are good and tasty. so, i don't think food will be a problem, although i would like to understand on which areas to buy from ( veg/ meat especially chicken) and average cost associated with it.

i know it is difficult to predict on cost, but assuming i will be cooking at home 90% of time and assuming it will be just me and my wife, can you help me with this.

Is it regarded as a nice city to live in?
- Yes, absolutely! Perfect size for a city, public transportation is spread and efficient, you've even trams like the 201 rolling all the night; very safe city, many students and things to do (although not very culturally rich like Wroclaw). Many clubs/pubs, events, the underground scene is not huge but there's something and, hey, you're 2.5h far from Berlin ;)

Is the 2800 net zloty an ok salary to work for and have a good life there.
- Depends on your job, but I feel that the salary is a bit too low to live as an expat in a main polish city ... especially if you wanna rent a full flat, I would prefer to have at least 5000 pln net.

Is not that everything is 50% than the cost of life of western countries (for instance clothing and electronics are even more expensive).
In your situation I would mind to rent a room in a shared flat (700 PLN all included), buy at Biedronka or Tesco (at least 80-100 PLN a week), use the excellent public transportation (PEKA + 120 PLN a month).

As for housing, I expect to pay something between 1100 to 1500 zloty furnished. Is this an ok estimate?
- More towards the 1500. In the range of 1500-2000 you can find everywhere in the city. Polanka/Katowicka are new areas with great flats and close to Malta, you can find something cheaper and anyway nice in Rataje, Zawady, Most Rocha, and many other areas ... give a look to Otodom for the flats.
